What are your (city's, state's, etc) worst sports losses?

Asked by Charles (4823points) January 20th, 2012

So, what are some of the most disappointing sports losses? For many of us they are associated with a city but also a state, or a college or their country (such as an Olympic team).

I grew up in Southern California. Grew up listening to Chick Hearn, Vin Scully & Jerry Doggett, Dick Enberg (Rams and Angels), and Bob Miller for Kings Hockey. (I even remember Jiggs McDonald who preceded Bob Miller.)

So, what sports losses bothered you the most?

Here are mine:

1969 Lakers lose to Boston in 7 games (However I was too young to remember this one.)
1972 USA loses to USSR Olympic Basketball (this really hurt…another three seconds…another three seconds…another three seconds…)
1972 Lew Alcindor and the Milwaukee Bucks end Lakers 33 game win streak
1977 Dodgers lose to Yankees
1978 Dodgers lose to Yankees
1982 Dodgers lose to Giants (Last game of season off Joe Morgan home run.)
1984 Lakers lose to Boston in 7 games
1985 Dodgers lose to Cardinals (Game 6 Jack Clark home run)
1986 Angels lose to Boston (ALCS, one strike away from the pennant; Dave Henderson home run; contributed to Angel pitcher Donnie Moore’s suicide.)
2006 USC loses to Texas (Vince Young touchdown run)

1988. First game of the World Series. Oakland A’s vs LA Dodgers.
Oakland had the game in the bag, then a fucking cripple hits an Eckersly fastball out of the park.
I ended up with alcohol poisoning trying to deal with it.

The Oakland Raiders vs the Pittsburg Steelers.
The Immaculate Reception. Pittsburg goes to the Super Bowl. Fuck.

sorry. I’ve been drinking.
