(NSFW) Question about women's anatomy (details inside)

Asked by Jude (32198points) January 22nd, 2012

Why, at times, do our nipples get dry? Rough sort of dry.

One could be dry, or both.

In the winter, I know mine get dry because it’s the freaking winter in a very dry climate, and everything gets dry.

Right now, it’s just the left. Odd.

I find that lacy bras can irritate them. Especially if the lace is kindof old. Try lanolin or A&D ointment (not cream). Works great for any dry irritated skin…elbows, lips, pretty much anywhere.

Same reasin my back gets dry. Flipping cold weather and the heater on all the time makes me dry everywhere, add in my thyroid being a little off, eyes dry and stuck together in the morning, hair dry, back itching like crazy from dryness and dry nips. I did much much better in humid Florida.

This helps a lot.

@Jude We used to deal with this a lot on our farm. Are you going to kill me if I suggest Bag Balm by Dr Naylor’s Company? Love you lady.:)

I would second the Bag Balm, or even better some of this, made especially for a woman’s nipples. It works great and you can buy it at most stores that sell baby supplies. I have bought it at Target.

I have seriously chapped lips frequently from the wind and sun. The pharmacist suggested a lanolin ointment that is designed for nursing mother’s nipples. It works very well on the chapped lips and runners nipples too. It was exorbitantly expensive I thought, $7.00 for a tiny tube, but I think it is pure lanolin. As to the why, I think it is the weather and the dry heat of houses in winter.

I refuse to use Bag Balm. ;)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Jude I’m so sorry for that. I just couldn’t resist. But I’m LMAO.

Actually Bag Balm is good stuff. I have used it on dry chapped hands and on the dogs’ pads if they would get sore. But yeah, in this case, the name is a bit off putting I agree!

For my funbags.

@Jude Me, too. I prefer my raw shea butter.

Weather and irritation. The nips be sensitive!

@rooeytoo – If all it is is pure lanolin, you can probably get it cheaper somewhere else. Is it cheaper than this or this for example?

wilma's avatar

@rooeytoo was it Lansinoh that you used? It is wonderful stuff, made for a woman’s nipples.

rooeytoo's avatar

@wilma, yep that is it. It is made by Key Pharmaceuticals.

@laureth – the little tube from CVS looks comparable and the price is similar. It is expensive but you need so little of it, I think it will last quite a while. Cheers.
