Does anyone know the word or name for the feelings experienced in a social environment?

Asked by DaphneT (5750points) January 23rd, 2012

I’m really looking for the word or name for the feelings experienced when trying to socialize and finding that the group is talking about interesting ideas, but aren’t making room for the newcomer to participate. What words come to mind?

Excluded? Cliquish?

Isolation? Ostracizing?

These words come to mind for the description of the scenario itself:
confab
collocution
duologue
ceilidh
mataeology
coterie

And these come to mind for implying that someone is not allowed into the conversation.
shunned
excluded
banned

or any of these synonmyns of the word “prevent”.

@digitalimpression mataeology? No definition? How can I use that in a sentence?

@digitalimpression coterie was particularly helpful, thanks for that one.

My teenagers call it “Q’ing.” Imagine the O of the “Q” represents a circle, and the tail represents the excluded party.

Disincluded, excluded, looked over, shut out all work too.

Ignored. Be more aggressive.

@MollyMcGuire, thanks for the word, but not the point. This is about identifying the feelings.
