Why are there many talented Asian-American singers on youtube but they are not mainstream?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) February 13th, 2012

I notice a lot of Asian singers on youtube that are actually pretty good and try to make a career out of singing but none of them have a signed contract or gets noticed by any producers. Why do you think that is? These Asian youtube singers aren’t just some random person but “famous” within the youtube community lol.

They don’t fit the cookie cutter mold most US record producers seem to want right now.

Pretty good does not equal sellable or unique. Though I did enjoy the Jason Vincent video and could imagine hearing that on the radio. He has a sound very similar to Jason Mraz. That alone could be a deterrent for him getting a contract.

I can’t answer your question, but I like Meiko out of LA. I think her grandmother was Japanese. And I think she has been noticed.

A very good friend of mine, William Hung, asked me this very same question.

I told him, Fuck them racist haters, Billy. Never let ‘em stop you from following your dream.

To me, it doesn’t make sense because there are MANY artists out there that are very mediocre yet are rich.

@chelle21689 Just like everything else in life, that is usually due to connections. Social networking, or parents that are already in the biz helps a lot.
