What relates to The Catcher in The Rye?

Asked by Quinnk123 (201points) February 13th, 2012

I need either a poem or a song that can relate to the first five chapters of the book The Catcher in the Rye. The ifrst five chapters is about the protagonist not getting good grades and being kicked out of this prep/boarding school. He has to find someway to feel a goodbye from the school. Also, while he was there, his roomate makes him do his homework while he goes out on dates. Any ideas?

Only if you also want to be the protagonist who is not getting good grades. Does your teacher approve of you asking strangers to do your homework while you…do what? Go out on dates.

A lovely use of irony, however.

Do you have any thoughts or ideas? If you can present us with some choices, we might help you decide which is more apt.

@gailcalled Very much agreed. I want to be part of an American culture where it’s youth is sufficient on it’s own to find out how to have their own opinions on merits of their own research.
Citing some examples of your path choice will help us help you, but blatantly asking us to do your assignment is just plain lazy.
Take the overall essence of the first 5. Think of some adjectives to describe the way it went. Find the overall motif, base your own opinion, from there you can search those adjectives to certain songs with that adjective attached to the google search, for instance.

The key is to find a poem or song that relates to the overall feeling of the first five chapters. You need to look deeper than the fact that he gets kicked out of prep school and doesn’t make good grades.

(it’s means “it is.”)

This is an odd assignment, I must say. The first five chapters of a very complicated booth cannot be reduced to several adjectives. Unless you choose the cosmic but vague “alienation.” There are plenty of songs and poems written about that.

I don’t remember when it happened… But Yellow by Coldplay reminds me of Catcher In The Rye when Holden mentions how he feels yellow…

Check out despair.com. Most of their Demotivators posters appeal directly (according to the promos) to “disaffected youths”. You can be part of a target demographic and get an up-to-date cultural reference as you initiate a modern, web-based homework dodge.

@gailcalled… did you mean book rather than booth?

@Bellatrix: This is exactly why we should never be our own editors, isn’t it? I always read twice before sending, but a lot of good that did.

edit: book.
