Asked by mineown (438points) February 18th, 2012

I want to watch a Let’s Play of a video game, but I don’t know which one to pick. What is a good one to watch?

Erm…what games are you interested in? What’s your fave genres? I know of a few Persona 2 Let’s Plays that could be interesting, if you’re into late 90’s JRPG’s. Some of the Silent Hill games could be fun to watch, if you’re into survival horror.

A good general Let’s Play to watch is Karmoc’s Let’s Play Silent Hill: Homecoming. It’s a good balance of informative and humorous with an interesting Choose Your Own Adventure gimmick, but the videos are a little long so you might be put off.

A personal favorite Let’s Player of mine goes by the name of Luke Nuetzmann and anything he does is gold to me. He tends to have the right voice and personality for the games that he plays and, with few exceptions, his Let’s Plays don’t drag on very long. Favorites here include his POW: Prisoner of War and Metal Slug runs as well as his Fallout 3 playthrough.

Another really popular Let’s Player is Raocow who is extremely non-sequitur, so the emphasis is on the commentary instead of the games, which are mostly Mario ROM hacks. A good example of Raocow in his prime can be viewed here.

Finally, one of my absolute favorite Let’s Plays ever is Let’s Play Yume Nikki by ohmRICE. It’s a very quiet, yet well-handled Let’s Play of a very strange, obscure game from Japan. Highly informative; not so much emphasis on the humor.

Barring that, just take a look around the Let’s Play Archive. Most Let’s Plays that come out of the SomethingAwful forums are excellent and you’re sure to find something you like there. The website even marks the different Let’s Plays with tags to let you know which are humorous, which are serious, which have verbal commentary, which have written commentary, and which try to be creative.

Good luck! Let me know what you find!

@ragingloli Totally came here to suggest those. His Hitman: Blood Money playthroughs are great too.
