Can you recommend a good hand lotion?

Asked by JustCallMeMom (49points) March 1st, 2012

My hands stay dry and cracked during winter. I’ve tried several different hand lotions and can’t find one that works. What do you suggest?

I use Eumocream. It leaves your hands feeling sticky for a while afterwards but a couple of days of this stuff and it will heal up even really sore, bleeding cracked hands no problem.

There are lots of good lotions, and I’ve probably tried all of them. The best thing is to do this right before bed: wash hands in really warm water, coat hands with petroleum jelly or baby oil, and sleep in soft gloves or put cotton socks over your hands. It works for both hands and feet.

I used to have cracked bleeding fingertips every winter. No more!
I found Working Hands.
You can buy it online or at most hardware stores.
It doesn’t smell, and is not greasy. I don’t know what makes it work so great, but I love it. I put it on my hands every night before I go to bed. My fingertips have not cracked at all this winter.
It really works great.

Norwegian formula by neutrogena is excellent and really concentrated. ‘instant relief of dry, chapped hands’...i have a tube in my hands..not a sales person!:)

We have two that I like, Alba Botanicals which has approximately no fragrance (a good thing in my opinion) and Supre’s Hempz (which has a slight amount of hemp aroma) are both good moisturising lotions.
If it gets extreme you try getting a can of “Bag Balm” which a friend who is a professional potter used all the time on her hands after a day of ceramics work. It’s made for the irritation that milk cows suffer on their udders but is also relief for serious hand distress.

My wife swears by Aloe Vera. It must work. She has the softest hands I’ve ever held. : ))

Straight up olive oil (the more virgin, the better).

You need something that will add moisture, not just prevent moisture from leaving. Petroleum and mineral oil only prevent moisture from leaving, and they also prevent all the other ingredients they’re combined with from adding moisture. Shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil, jojoba oil, safflower oil, aloe vera, rapeseed oil, avocado oil, mango oil – all add moisture (the first 3 being the best for adding moisture). I just use raw shea butter (from Whole Foods) because it isn’t as greasy as olive oil, but almost everyone has olive oil at home, in their kitchen.

Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream is one of the best, although it’s kind of pricey. If you’re on a budget, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter also works.

There is only one. Zim’s Crack Cream.

Organic virgin Coconut oil is wonderful. It soaks into your skin, makes your skin feel great, and I love the smell. I would try it for four or five days, and see if it makes a difference. Great for hair too.

I have tried bag balm it works good for dry hands, but doesn’t do the job on a severe problem.
I have used Zim’s Crack Cream, it stinks and didn’t work for my cracked fingers.
I have tried olive oil, cocoa butter, all of the dry skin lotions and creams. I searched for help for my bleeding fingers for over 40 years. Nothing worked for me but the Working Hands. I guarantee that Working Hands will help you if you use it every night before bed.

I have not tried the Cut Heal Co. Stuff.

Nivea Soft. Get it at Walgreens or CVS. The brand copycat cream at CVS is nowhere near as good. Not only good for hands, but feet as well.
