I think that would be a hard question to answer accurately, as everyone’s hair is different, and “thick” is just one aspect of hair type. There’s oily, dry, colored (and different brands and types of color produce different textures and issues of their own, i.e. a more expensive, milder salon color might have a different effect on the hair than a dime-store bottled brand done at home).

My suggestion is to try different shampoos and see which works best for you.

I have several different bottles going at once, and I may use a different one on one day and a different one the next day, depending on my mood.

That is just what I do ! But I was hoping to find the perfect shampoo for normal , semi thick hair.

My wife who has long thick hair swears by Pantene shampoo and conditioner.

I used to love the Pantene shampoo and conditioner too. Can’t get it where I live now.

How funny. A hairdresser told me Pantene was the worst you could use! LOL

@Aster They probably told you that in order to sell you $8.00 a bottle “product”! ;)

I’d say Good Housekeeping should have an unbiased opinion.

Cruiser, you are incredibly helpful all the time. Thank you so much! (-;
I will buy Pantene tomorrow for sure!

@Aster From what I understand, Pantene is actually good enough that if hairdressers don’t bash it, no one (on any kind of budget) will ever buy their $32 for 8 oz salon shampoo.

This reminds me of the soap question. For shampoo, I use Johnson’s.

I have the hair you’re describing, and in my personal opinion… the shampoo doesn’t really matter at all! Whatever gets your hair clean should be fine. I use Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo.

What makes a difference is the conditioner you use. It needn’t be expensive, either. I’m currently using Dove Damage Therapy Shine Boost, and it’s doing a nice job of leaving my hair soft and shiny.

I think Matrix Biolage makes the best hair products.

@MollyMcGuire I bought a bunch of Matrix products when a friend of mine became a distributor. I’m glad I got a good deal on them because they all went in the garbage. The shampoo was too harsh, just stripped my hair. This was YEARS and years ago. They could have reformulated.

@HungryGuy do I have to beat you over the head again? LOL Shampoo is completely different to bar soap! /hands Guy a ticket to her bath and body products lecture.

I bought some “salon products” that were being discontinued, from my hairdresser. One thing I notice is that they’re very thick compared to products you buy at a drugstore or supermarket. The consistency is almost like greek yogurt or sour cream. You have to shake the bottle to get it to come out, as opposed to the cheap stuff, which just pours. Makes me realize how watered down the cheap stuff is. I even have Nexxus at home, and it’s quite watery compared to this stuff.

@cazzie I’ve been using it about four years. The hydrating shampoo is so mild I don’t even need conditioner and I shampoo every day. I do use the Mint conditioner every few days though. I do just love it.
