What are some possibilities of left side abdomen pain?

Asked by whitecarnations (1638points) March 7th, 2012

Hello health conscious jellies!

So around 10pm last night while sitting on my chair I felt a little pain in my left side. It’s like a very mini constant cramp. It doesn’t bug me, but I do notice it there. I still have the pain this morning and usually when I sit down and play video games on my computer for about 3 hours straight I get a sharp pain in my right side. Well I don’t have that pain yet the left one is lingering.

It is below the rib and 6 inches to the left of the belly button (I’m a small fat guy)

I changed my diet starting Monday gone straight veggies. Yesterday I had a Blonde blende Starbucks tall coffee, banana bread, bean and cheese burrito, queso jalapeƱo chips, and a large hot tea from The Living Room cafe. I honestly don’t remember drinking a whole bunch of water yesterday, but I know at least 1000mL of water so about 2 Arrowhead water bottles.

My first thought: Kidney Stone.

But it could be anything from constipation, bowel issues or diverticulitis…since you say you’re small and fat, it could even be left side liver pain.

I am not a doctor. If this were me, I’d clean up my diet even more to see if it subsides: Skip the dairy, eat more fiber, look at the waste exiting (note the color and shape), eat more greens, then.

I’d contact the doctor if it doesn’t go away or it gets worse.

EDIT: Does this pain subside when you walk or exercise? Or does it worsen?

There are too many possibilities to diagnose over the internet. If the pain persists, see your doctor.

I don’t have a doctor. @SpatzieLover I’m 5’7 about 185lbs. And yes it’s really unnoticeable while walking. Like I mentioned it feels like a mini cramp, even just pinching the skin or rubbing it makes it feel well. Thanks @marinelife and @Rarebear for trying.

I was thinking kidney stone as well. (Sunday was my last day of soda which I probably had 3 times a week [like a 16oz here and there]) However, it doesn’t hurt when I urinate, or does that even matter.

Abdominal pain is very difficult to diagnose, and even harder over the internet. When did you poo last? Are you farting a lot? Does farting help the pain? If it doesn’t get better or if it suddenly gets much worse, see ANY doctor. Coffee + bean burrito would certainly give me gas. Try to poo. If it doesn’t help, keep a eye on it and get yourself medical help if it doesn’t go away or if it gets worse.

I was pooping just fine that day. No pee stings etc. Later on that night the pain was gone, and still is gone to this day. I’m going to take a wild guess and say my obliques were strained from intense gaming for 3 hours straight. I used to weigh 150 and have tacked on 35 pounds in the last year.

Uh, sounds like mebee you need to quit gaming and get outside.

Ditto @Dutchess_III. Otherwise, get addicted to standing games with the Wii. I sweat with those ;)

Honestly @whitecarnations that’s a large weight gain in one year. You need to greatly increase the fiber in your diet, keep drinking water and keep moving. The human body was not designed to sit for hours on end. We are built to move.

My guess is that you sit hunched over. This causes your digestion to halt.
