Have you ever been on the outside looking in?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) March 8th, 2012

This may be a loaded question for many people. You made a major mistake with your s/o and someone took your place? You could only see him or her from a distance and hate the position that you are in? This question may also apply to your lost job or any condition that fits your situation in the past. So, question: have you ever been on the outside looking in? What were your feelings?

I went through much of school being that way. Although I always had a few close friends, which saved me.

I’ve been an alien. Talk about being on the outside looking in. What is the most essentially human thing? The ability to reproduce. Most people in the world spend a lot of energy trying to prevent reproduction.

The day I found out I was physically incapable of reproducing was the day I suddenly realized I must have been born on Mars. I was not a human being, all of a sudden. I was not made the way humans are made in this most quintessentially human and crucial way. I was an alien.

I doubt if humans can understand this. Being an alien is so being on the outside looking in. Unbelievably so. One second you’re a member of the tribe and the next, you might as well be from outer space. Can’t say I have ever truly recovered, although I did manage to find a way around the problem.

Someone has been listening to Staind

I have been on the outside more times than I care to mention. Now for me I just feel… A moment of sadness, a flicker of regret, maybe a second of thinking what could have been, a wish for their happiness, and an adieu.

Yes, I have. The view is both frustrating & saddening.
