Is anybody a fan of old cartoons?

Asked by sydsydrox (648points) March 12th, 2012

Is there anybody who is a an of old cartoon series started in 1998 and above? I love old cartoons, especially Chalkzone, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and (I don’t know when this show came out) The Magic School Bus. Old cartoons bring me much joy to watch, and I love them to death. Anybody else a fan?

I freakin’ love Chalkzone and Magic School Bus. Hahaha, I can still watch them and love every minute of it.

I was extremely disappointed the day my daughter decided she was too old for Kim Possible anymore. She will still watch it with me if I take her to dinner though.

I was a fan, but not anymore, as I’m 26…

As with when I was young, I still prefer to watch Bob Ross over cartoons.

When you mention old cartoons I think of the original Looney Tunes, Scooby Do, and Josie and the Pussycats!

As for cartoons from the era you mention, I loved Rocket Power, Chalkzone, and Jake Long: American Dragon. A newer cartoon that is no longer on and I miss is Avatar the Last Airbender, I am excited to watch The Legend of Kora!

I am completely grown up now and still love good cartoons, but to be fair there was a long stretch before I had children where I didn’t watch any cartoons at all.

I think they’re awesome. The old Popeye and others had much better animation and sometimes the animation seemed rough but they are still good.It was entertainment 50 years ago and it still works now. Kids have gotten used to CGI so cartoons are a lost art?

‘Old’ cartoons from 1998? Geez, I now feel like I belong in a retirement home. To answer the question though, I became a fan of The Wild Thornberrys several years ago.

Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures- My friends and I watched both religiously. A good friend and I watch Ben 10 now together when we can, but I don’t remember when it came out.

Funny you should ask. I’m watching Tom and Jerry with my granddaughter right now. :-)

I have never heard of the cartoons you mentioned. At my age, an old cartoon would be Heckle and Jeckle, Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy. My kids grew up on Inspector Gadget, Pinky and the Brain.

@SuperMouse . . . Rocket Power? squid

SuperMouse's avatar

@Blondesjon yes, Rocket Power. I patterned my life after Otto Rocket with a bit of Reggie thrown in for good measure (since I’m a girl and all).

Yes, I am a fan of old cartoons. Some from the late nineties as you stated but most I love are older than that. When you said “old” I thought you meant old like Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show, old Disney stuff, etc.

“Old cartoons” being put inside 1998 makes me feel really old now.

Man I was thinking Flinstone’s…. what’s this old being 1998 above

jerv's avatar

Like most people here, when you said “old”, I was thinking cartoons at least as old as the ones I grew up with. Now, by ‘98, I was already in the Navy for over five years, so to me, “old” means at least a decade before you are thinking.

About the only cartoon that you would call “old” that I like is Initial D (1998-present for the animated series); the rest of the ones I like/liked, you would call “fucking ancient!”.

Like @jerv, I thought you meant old cartoons, like WWII and before. The cool Tex Avery stuff. Betty Boop. Ub Iwerks. Now that I see you meant anything before 1998, all I really want to say would probably be moderated.
Yes, I like old cartoons.

@SuperMouse LOVE TOM AND JERRY TO DEATH, but the new series sucks nuggets… Old = better. @GracieT ALSO LOVE ANIMANIACS to death as well!
Magic school bus also used to be my all time fave, still is, but Discovey Channel died and was replaced by some other channel (I don’t know the name of it as of now) with different shows. Are shows on that channel that replaced Discovery good? What channel on Directv is it?

GracieT's avatar

@sydsydrox, my friends and I were exactly the correct age for Animaniacs. We were all in college, and we were all smart and “hip.” (At least we thought we were hip!) We really didn’t have any problem with being about double the age the cartoon was for, we didn’t think anyone younger than us would get it.
BTW- welcome to Fluther. I think you will enjoy it. (It’s like a drug!)

@GracieT i know that feel, bro. haha meme
I’m about thrice the age for The Magic School Bus, but I still watch it when I get the chance. I also used to watch Rockos Modern Life whilst I was innocent and didn’t notice all the sexual innuendos and inside jokes and puns… When you watch it now and catch EVERY SINGLE ONE, it makes the show much, much better.
