Finished reading Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy. What next?

Asked by glastonburyian (79points) March 17th, 2012

So, I’ve just finished reading Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy (“The girl who…”), and whilst it’s not my usual choice of reading I’ve really enjoyed them/
The question is, is there something similar that I might enjoy reading?

Echoes of the Dead by Johan Theorin. Another murder mystery set in Sweden with ties to a hidden past. Not with the same political themes, though.

The Hunger Games, though their use of devices such as action and plot may be a shock to someone who just read the Millennium trilogy.

@glastonburyian, why don’t you call out two or three aspects of those novels that held your interest and made them satisfying to you? And while you’re at it, if they’re not your usual choice of reading matter, what is?

If you had just told us that you liked The Wizard of Oz, it would be silly for us to try to think of other stories where a girl gets carried off to Wonderland by a tornado and antagonizes a witch, when what you might mean is, where are more stories about people discovering their true talents and learning to value what they have?

I got into a crime novel reading spree a few years back. I really like Patricia Cornwell, Elizabeth George and for a quick, but good, read Sue Grafton.

I second reading the Hunger Games series. It’s not the absolute best series I’ve read but I did find it to be a bit of a page turner.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. I recommend clearing your social calendar for about two months. You’ll find yourself leaving parties early to go home and read. You’ll also find yourself despising people who are further along in the series and accidentally drop spoilers.

Spoiler alert (not really): eventually, every character will meet a violent death. But it’s still fun.

Dont go for Bo Nesbo. I read the Snowman. What a load of rubbish. Val Mcdermid is really good

I agree about The Snowman. Unsatisfactory.
