How do I get a coin encapsulated?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) March 20th, 2012

I have a Cheerios Sacagawea dollar that I want to get encapsulated/graded. I have never done this before, so I really have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I have gone to a few sites that offer such services, but a lot of them seem to deal mostly with coin dealers and with huge quantities.

Does anyone know what steps to take and/or has anyone done this before?

Have you looked at the NGC website ? ?

Might be worth a phone call.

Yes, that was one of the ones. Can someone help me decipher the mumbo-jumbo?

(I also went to icg and pcgs)

Any reputable coin dealer should be able to do grade and encapsulate it for you.

When I was in San Diego they refused to take them at the airport. I had to put a bottle of water on the credit card. The clerk insisted the Sacajawea (the preferred Lakota spelling) coin was not legal tender. But this was when the first came out.

Unless it is a proof coin, which would already be encapsulated, or an error coin most are worth about a dollar each.
