Have you ever or do you enjoy eating out by yourself?

Asked by Aster (20023points) March 23rd, 2012

I may have eaten out alone if you call eating a hamburger in your car eating out. I don’t remember doing it in a restaurant, though, but it’s possible . Do you eat out alone and like it? Are you lonely doing it? I think I’d feel awkward or self conscious.

Yes, I do it somewhat frequently. I eat at the bar, though, so it doesn’t look too wierdo/rapey. Lol. It doesn’t feel strange at all, I watch the TV or play on my phone.

I used to travel quite bit and would eat out all then time. I really enjoyed it. I would take a book or magazine and read while eating. It was relaxing.

I have eaten out alone when traveling. At home, there is a coffee shop I go to. Their food is excellent, and they have books, magazines and newspapers available to read for free.

I think that years ago I was out and remembered how I love a cafeteria in our town. I think I went in and loved the food so much that I didn’t mind going alone. Not sure, though. LOL !! They have fried fish in a super crispy , thick coating , incredibly blackeyed peas and tender cabbage cooked in lots of butter. They have a big bowl of salsa or picante sauce and I used to grab a lot of it to dip my fish in. lol

All this talk about eating alone makes me want to eat alone lol. I’m going to a sushi bar after work. Thanks Aster!

Yes and yes. I usually read while eating.

to be honest, at first glance, I could have sworn that the title read “Have you ever or do you enjoy eating yourself out?”

I used to have to eat out during business trips. I found it a hassle. I would take a book or just order room service.

I do on occasion but prefer take out. There is one local place I like, where I will go in, order take out, have a quick beer in the lounge by myself and then take home my dinner.
This restaurant has a great outdoor “backyard” type patio and sometimes in the summer I will eat outside by myself.

I do go to the movies by myself on occasion too, I’m not uptight about doing things by myself. :-)

I did it all the time on my first job. I would just people watch or talk with the employees a little.

I don’t eat out much .. alone or with anyone. I’m just not a fan of eating out.

But, if I were traveling alone, I would have no problem eating alone. But, I have a feeling, I’d just get food to go and eat it in my hotel room where I could watch TV or something too.

Yes I do.

I eat in my work canteen by myself sometimes and often read. I think it’s more socially acceptable to be on your phone than read. I dont think this is a good thing though

Doesn’t bother me to eat along at a restuarant or diner. I like the solitude and relaxation, and I also love to people watch.

I love eating out by myself. I don’t understand how people can feel awkward or lonely when they decide to eat out by themselves. Sometimes I bring a book. Sometimes I bring my computer. Sometimes, I just people watch. I also go to movies by myself all the time.

I have eaten out alone many times at lunch. It’s not unusual in Manhattan to see people eating alone, so you don’t feel weird. But one time, when I was single, and decided to vacation alone at the shore I felt really wierd about going to a restaurant alone. It was nighttime and it was a small town. I forced myself to go and not feel like it was pathetic that I was alone. I don’t think I was imagining that the waiter looked at me a little weird, but I did it, and I enjoyed my dinner all the same. It was way better than eating takeout in my room or going to a burger joint.

I don’t eat in real restaurants alone; I have never ever done that. I have eaten a burger inside a Burger King once while my car was being repaired across the street. I didn’t like it. When I lived alone and wanted Chinese, I would go to the restaurant and take it out to eat at home.

I do it all the time. I go somewhere that I’m sure the food will be great. I read the local rag or play on my phone. I go to movies alone, too. This one place I quit going to because I was usually the only person there and the kitchen staff all felt like that had to come and sit with me and talk. It was weird.

When I eat out alone, sometimes I will mention that I wouldn’t mind if they put someone else at the table. Otherwise, I will read a book during the meal. I’ve never mastered sitting alone and silently eating my meal.

I don’t think I’d care to eat alone in a fancy restaurant, but I eat in semi-fast food places and diner-style places and family style restaurants (like Cocos or Togos or Sweet Tomatoes) fairly often by myself, mostly because I house sit a lot and sometimes I’m not with friends or family. I don’t mind one bit. I love to read, so I usually bring a long a book or a newspaper.

Usually I don’t eat alone in a restuarant but I will at fast food or pizza places. I eat alone at the mall alot too.
