Could a button or link that revealed the mods on duty work?

Asked by whitecarnations (1638points) March 29th, 2012

Do you think it would be beneficial? Or a waste of time?

Well, I think the moderating should be anonymous for the most part. The mods thoroughly discuss unusual or tough situations.

Also, since programming reserves here are minimal, it is unlikely that things will be changed.

And there’s really no such thing as “on duty” for the mods. When a post gets flagged, they all get an email to that effect. Any of them can take action at that point. Also, just because a mod happens to be cruising through Fluther at a particular time doesn’t mean they’re automatically wearing their mod hat. Basically, a mod is a mod when they decide to exercise their mod powers. Otherwise, they’re just jellies.

I’ve always wanted a “contact a mod” button, which would send an email to all mods. That way, whoever was around at that time could respond quickly. If we ever do any more development on the site, that’s at the top of my wish list.

It could work. THe question is would people still volunteer if they were on call all the time?

@wundayatta Hm, I wasn’t thinking of it as “all the time” per say. Just like a little button somewhere that would show for instance, “Augustlan Is Online!” Something like that. Of course if no one was online there’s always the flag. I just see it plausible in an instance where someone is messaging people some spam around. I’ve received one of those spammer messages and there’s nothing I can really do about it (or is there?), but go out hunting for a Mod somehow.

@whitecarnations In regards to the spam PMs, you can use the contact button at the top of the page. It doesn’t go out to all the mods, but it does at least get to Auggie and the founders. Other than that, you can check the Tide Pool Chatroom. Sometimes there is a mod in there (though not often) in case something comes up.

Interesting. I never feel like I have to do anything about the spam. I might flag it, but I find it easy to ignore. I just go on to the next them. I don’t bother to waste any time thinking about it. It seems that a lot of people are bothered by it, which means they have to actually see it. I have developed a great ability to not-see things I am uninterested in. It’s a real time-saver.
