How can I root my Samsung T939? And upgrade Android 1.5 to 2.2?

Asked by prioritymail (1630points) March 29th, 2012

I tried Instant Root. It says it worked, another app said it worked, but when I try to gain root in a terminal app it does not work. Also installed Barnacle Tether and it errors out saying it needs root to work. There are a lot of different instructions on how to root android and even some on how to root this particular phone but it requires installing Android SDK and ADB which I am not sure how to do in Linux. What I’d really like to do is upgrade my v1.5 to 2.2. I found this step-by-step, but it looks out dated. Either that or the instructions aren’t clear to me. I can’t find any clear instructions on how to do it. I know other people have done it. I just haven’t had a need to bother until now.

It’s late and my brain is fuzzy, but maybe you can find info here However, it is pretty old and I haven’t really seen anything (at least not from any remotely reliable source) that indicates that it can go past 1.6

Personally, I used ClockworkMod to flash my Nook Color with CyanogenMod7, but unlike the NC, your phone is not on the “Supported devices” list, probably for much the same reason you don’t see a 486DX4/100 running Windows 7.
