Why is my mini DVD player displaying a "hold on message"?

My Sony Portable DVD Player DVP-FX970 has an Advanced soft touch key feature, but whenever I press the keys on the interface, it always pops up with “hold on.” Why could this be? Any solutions?

It’s trying to tell you that the buttons have been disabled so as to prevent accidental presses. There is a switch on the side that says “Hold” and you need to slide to the other position.
