How to get a strong odor out of plastic storage containers?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) April 17th, 2012

I’ve bought plenty of plastic storage containers over the years but none have this strong stench like this one. Of course, washing in hot water and dish soap did nothing to alleviate the smell.
These containers are brand new.

What can I do to get the smell out?

Here’s a website that tells you some different ways.

I’ve used the soaking and the baking soda method. Both work great.

Black tea leaf is also good for smell absorption and deodorizing. Empty a bunch of loose tea (old stale stuff works just as well) and let it sit for a few days.

Try coffee, truckers use it to deoderize trailers. Perked over instant . Just put in dry , & seal , let sit for 48 hours or so. or straight vinigar.
