General Question

When I use the mouse to highlight text in fluther, the window for Mac's spotlight opens simultaneously. Why?

It also happens randomly when I use jig zone.com, an app that allows me to drag and drop pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Just now, while typing in this window, Spotlight appeared.

By any chance are you holding down the Option key when you highlight text? If you are you might be hitting the spacebar too which will trigger Spotlight.

No. I have one hand in my lap and the other on the mouse when it happens.

It can happen to me when I hit the far left side of my spacebar key as I can also hit the cmd key at the same time which will open Spotlight.

This happens when I have my left hand in my lap and not on the keyboard. I am using the mouse to either highlight on Fluther (browser is Safari) or move pieces around in a little jigsaw app called jig zone.com, which seem to be the only triggers/

Would it be the software or the mouse, which behaves just fine in email (Mac Mail)and Open.office.org?

Do you have any unique keybindings attached to the mouse? Is it a magic mouse?

Oh, Yay, I just checked the mouse set-up in Systems Preferences and there is a Spotlight short cut at the mouse’s waist, on either side.MY left thumb sits on the left-hand one. I will disable it and see what happens.

@ro_in_motion: Is that what you meant by keybindings? Thank you, in any case.

Yep, that’s what I meant. :)
