How secure is our electricity grid?

I anticipate many changes in all sectors of the US and world over the next few years. How stable is the grid?

Considering its huge size, the vast area it covers, the remoteness of much it and the lack of even basic fencing in these remote areas, I would say it is highly susceptible. But much of the grid overlaps with cross coverage so I would imagine it would take breaches at many locations to make a significant impact.
