How to correctly charge a MacBook Pro?

Asked by Marchofthefox (787points) May 10th, 2012

Hello all,
Recently, I had brought a 13” MacBook pro and when bringing it home, I had started the laptop and let it die and left it alone to fully charge. Am I going about this correctly? I will use my MacBook, wait for the battery become low, leave it alone and let it fully charge. I also try my best to not watch videos, keep it elevated to breathe and keep the screen dim. I’ve heard its not right to let the laptop get completely low, one should charge once the it when the battery reads 50%, only let the laptop completely die once or twice a week. I also was wondering about the ac adapter I got when purchasing the laptop, does it matter if I use it? I’ve been using the wall charger.

Thank you.

The extra couple weeks you might be able to get out of the battery by jumping through all these hoops doesn’t seems worth it. I just plugged mine in when I was at my desk so I always had a full charge if I had to head out. The battery was fine for years.

I would suggest getting AppleCare. You can get the battery replaced for free with a minimal amount of fuss.
