Are kids cartoons as good as they used to be?

Asked by jlelandg (3536points) May 28th, 2008

I don’t think the ones my niece and nephew’s cartoon’s are as good as mine (Duck Tales, He-Man, GI Joe) and my brother and sister always say that theirs were better than mine (Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, others of the mid-seventies to early eighties)

I grew up in the UK/90’s and so I highly doubt what I watch can be compared to those of US kids. But what they do show I prefer much less (yes I have grown up) but it’s useless and always politically correct now, it’s a shame. I used to love the programs I used to watch * sniff * now, now it’s ruined * sniff *

Like Pop-Eye? I loved it. (Rocky and Bullwinkle was awesome)

Today we have Blues Clues, and Dora which I’m not a big fan of.

Warner Brothers was an education in classical music behind the cartoons. (Some might argued they ruined perfectly good classical pieces.)

Rocky and Bullwinkle was really unmatched in its sly political inside jokes. My husband’s favorite was one time when Rocky said, “Oh, Bullwinkle, it’s you.” to which the plucky moose replied, “Who did you expect? Prince Souvanna Phouma?”

I don’t know about anyone else, but I was a huge fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have seen them change from when I first saw them as a kid (80’s) to now. It seems that they got a little darker, and less jokey.

TMNT was a brilliant program (mid 90’s for me) and I’ve seen changes in the past decade of it and I’m sure kids of the 80’s have seen even more changes between the 80’s – 90’s, what about Alvin and the Chipmunks? The Hurricanes? Looney Toons? (OH MY… 90’s cartoon openings and 80’s cartoon openings) :)

I watch a lot of cartoons, and I’m gonna have to say that most cartoons today are more educational. I’m 28, married, and expecting a little girl in less than six weeks.

Older cartoons are entertaining, but they lack in educational value.

I Love Adult Swim!

@blubatron9 Adult Swim was introduced to me by my teenage twin nephews. Have you seen the giraffe in quicksand? That is so funny.

Adultswim is awesome! Some of the stuff is weird, but for the most part, it’s awesome.

There are some amazing cartoons today for a younger audience that are educational but very interesting. Spongebob, Jacob Two Two, Veggie Tales, 321 Penguins.

I grew up with loony tunes and loved them. Also Rocky and Bullwinkle, Go Go Gophers, Tennesee Tuxedo, Wonder Dog, scooby doo.

I recently saw some of the others He Man, and such. They were not as good as I remembered.
