My mother-in-law thanked me for organizing something. She’s what I wish all people had for MIL’s.

Oh yeah, it’s my FRIDAY!

Coloma's avatar

I never have mastered roman numerals, but YAY!
Thanks @janbb !
5:52 pm here, on my 3rd Tsing Tao, kicked monumental ass today, and my kitty “Myles” is feelin’ soooo good after his shave job for the summer. The groomer was so impressed, he is such a mellow guy.

He has fully recovered from the trauma and just let loose yet another lizard in my living room. Now there are two wayward reptiles basking under the furniture. Oh well, I’m used to it, gives them something to do at night. haha

I had a graduation ceremony for one of my students (“I present the graduating class (one person) of 2012….HEY! Jim!! Come out of the closet now! ..... Ahem. I present the graduating class of 2012—coincidentally the same year the world is going to end!”:) AND my favorite student is being released to the world on Friday after two years! :) :( We had a party.

Earthgirl's avatar

I had a really nice lunch at a Japanese restaurant with a new coworker that I haven’t seen for months. We brainstormed and talked about life in general and I feel like he is becoming a friend. Making new friends is rare for me so that makes me really happy. He’s very sweet and a true gentleman.

SuperMouse's avatar

Today was rather tough but I realized that if one can sit back and wait rather than jumping around freaking out, things really aren’t always as bad as they appear.

Also, tomorrow I am meeting my mother-in-law and sister-in-law for the first time. We have been married over a year now and I am really looking forward to finally meeting my husband’s family!

And of course I am always happy to see this thread living on!

A huge, annual project (as in a huge, annual amount of stress) at work ended today, and we’re done for another year. That loud sound you hear is me collapsing as I walked in the door upon arriving home. Now it’s time to figure out how to de-stress…

SuperMouse's avatar

@AngryWhiteMale been there, done that. Congratulations on completing your project, enjoy the three day weekend!

blueberry_kid's avatar

Today, I found out that I’ve raised up my letter grade in my hardest class up TWO LETTERS!!! From a D to a B in 3 weeks! I’m so proud of myself. I’ve been studying hard in Latin.

I’ve also recieved some quote un-quote flattering news. A boy who I thought hated me the entire year, actually liked me for quite a while, but also asked me to give him a b.j. Not sure if that’s good or not.

And, I’m becoming a Zumba instructor this summer! Very exciting day.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Good job @blueberry_kid!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a good thing, about the BJ and the boy, btw. He’s lying to you about actually liking you.

AngryWhiteMale's avatar

@SuperMouse, thank you! :) Actually, four-day weekend. My vacation accrual is about to cap out and it was strongly suggested I take time off. I’m acquiescing by adding one more day to the weekend, then figure out when it’s safe to take a few more days off down the road.

@blueberry_kid, congrats on all the hard work paying off! I took Latin in college, so I know it’s not an easy subject!

blueberry_kid's avatar

@Dutchess_III I knew it! That douchebag…

@AngryWhiteMale Thank you! I’ve been trying as best as I possibly could. It most definetly isn’t easy!! Thanks for feeling my pain

AshLeigh's avatar

@blueberry_kid, punch him in the dick.
Good job on your grade though! :)

Charles's avatar

Completed a ten mile bike ride at lunch on a beautiful day.
Played some volleyball with my wife and kids. (Actually just bumped and passed in the street).

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Charles I think that’s called a “hit and run.”

AmWiser's avatar

The skin on 2 of my knuckles on my right hand (I’m right handed) are feeling much much better after being deeply sliced by a mandolin slicer (one deeply skinned off, the other was flapped over. The doctor managed to stitch it back together). I know….gross, I really f*&%d myself up! Anyway, I can finally comfortalbly bend the fingers again and will attempt to return to work tomorrow (as a cashier). Wish me luck.:-}

lillycoyote's avatar

I’m not sure if I would put it in the “great” category but I am something of a clutter-head and I took a big hefty full of bag of stuff to the Goodwill, including all my size 8 jeans, and mourning the loss of my size 8-ness, and letting go of that was not easy for me, but I haven’t been a size 8 for almost 7 years, and I have now accepted that won’t be, again, anytime soon, and I finally got rid of the stuff.

I also donated a fleece throw that I have never liked and don’t use, but haven’t been able to get rid of it because my aunt gave it to me this past Christmas and I felt guilty; I didn’t want to hurt her feelings, even though she has no idea that I don’t like it, and will never know that I’ve gotten rid of it. Now my house is minus one 30 gallon trash bag full of things that are of no use to me, or didn’t like, but may be of use to someone else.

Maybe even the fleece throw is something someone else will like, hopefully. It has kittens on it, lots of kittens’ faces on it, but their heads are disembodied, in the printed pattern on the throw, and are the size of pizza pans, so while they may be cute, they’re also kind of scary, with their faces being that big. It’s the big kitten eyes, I think. They looked right through you. It’s gone now, though.

That’s about it for today, I guess. Not a big day for me.

SuperMouse's avatar

@AmWiser I feel your pain! About two months ago I cut the tip of my index finger off using a mandolin slicer. Kitchen tool my foot, that thing is an instrument of torture!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Oh, praise be to Mod for allowing a new thread!

Wanna hear something great? MY HUBBY IS FINALLY HOME!!!! Let the coma commence.

AmWiser's avatar

@SuperMouse LOL! Yes it is. Even though it was my own fault for not using the guard (which I know better. I just thought I could get one more slice before using the guard)....I still think the mandolin slicer is a great tool. Alas! I’ll probably never use it again. Just not worth it.
Sorry about your finger too!

Dutchess_III's avatar

@lillycoyote :( Sorry about your size 8’s. Faggedabut the kitten face throw.

@WillWorkForChocolate What is IMadeThisUpWithNoForePlay going to do now???

woodcutter's avatar

I’ll just tag this one in case it happens.

lillycoyote's avatar

@Dutchess_III Good link, the one you posted for @WillWorkForChocolate. Actually, I’m kind of relieved that I’ve come to the end of the internet, kind of glad it’s finally over; I will now have much more time for the things that matter, I will get a lot more done, and this will no longer happen to me, even if sometimes I am the one who is wrong, but I’m pretty good at blocking those moments, where I am wrong, from my consciousness; my memory, so that’s not much of an issue for me.

And all my pretty dresses are next. That’s going to be very traumatic for me. I’ve lost 20 of the 45 pounds that the big “M” put on me but I seriously doubt I will ever see a size again. Tubs of ice cream should be clearly labelled, in big block letters: “A half gallon of ice cream is not considered a single serving!”

lillycoyote's avatar

Above, that was supposed to be: “I seriously doubt I will ever see a size 8 again.”

ucme's avatar

Well, today’s only just begun, but I just clicked on the previous question in this series, linked in your details & it didn’t take long to load at all, super quick as it happens.
Not great, but certainly positive, for now.

picante's avatar

Today marks the 38th anniversary of my wedding. Lord knows there have been ample opportunities to throw in the towel (comparing marriage to a boxing match). I have single-handedly tried to destroy the relationship on numerous occasions, and hubby has done his fair share of spirit-crushing over the 45 years we’ve been in a relationship.

At this stage, we’ve crossed many of the toughest hurdles, and we have many of the more joyful life experiences to look forward to – including the birth of our first grandchild in a few weeks. That’s the really great part and the cause for celebration. It’s all about project management and commitment to purpose. A little romance now and then doesn’t hurt. Cue the violins ;-)

And thanks for continuing this thread, @janbb.

janbb's avatar

Mazel Tov @picante ! As I well know, it ain’t easy.

A friend sent me this and I was able to laugh in a condescending manner.

http://www.snotr.com/video/8965

A guy came and filled in all the driveway’s potholes with a wheelbarrow, pile of gravel and a shovel in less than two hours and arrived for his pay with a smile.

@blueberry kid: Bene Factum.

I had a bloody mary for breakfast and it was fantastic.

blueberry_kid's avatar

@Dutchess_III @AshLeigh Did I mention I said no? And, today I told him absolutely not, and then he said “Take care!” That douchebag… I knew he never actually liked me. I should of punched him in the dick.

@gailcalled Good Fact

tranquilsea's avatar

I’m back on my workout routine after taking a bit of break to attend and out-of-province wedding.

I’m really looking forward to this weekend as my husband and I are taking off to Banff (sans kids) to celebrate 18 years of marriage.

blueiiznh's avatar

Moved into my new office at work. It is so nice to have an door to close so I can nap. :)~

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@blueberry_kid Yes, you totally should have, LOL!

There was wonderful greatness last night. I finally got some good sleep last night, but had to get up early as usual on a school day, get the kids sent off, drive over to the school one hour later for an award ceremony, then go work over at my mom’s, helping her pack things in boxes and I cleaned the pool after my dad mowed, which was fun in a “hahaha this sucks” kinda way, then had to take my oldest to her gymnastics class…........ AHHHHHH! Is it bedtime yet?

The main great thing today was that I found out my daughter made A-B Honor Roll for the year. She hasn’t done that since first grade, haha! I’m super excited about it!

Now, I will go read more of Mommy Porn Fifty Shades of Grey, and experience more greatness.

tranquilsea's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate I’m glad you got some sleep last night. We must have traded somehow because I was up at 2am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Awwww, I’m sorry hon! If it makes you feel any better, after 6 days of no sleep, it will probably take me about 2 weeks of “good” sleep for me to get back to “normal”.

gailcalled's avatar

@blueberry_kid: Well done is the idiomatic translation.

tranquilsea's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate I hope from here on out you get that good sleep. My bad sleep is because many terrible situations are coming up the pipe for me and I guess my subconscious has decided it doesn’t want to deal and is passing the responsibility up to my conscious mind.

woodcutter's avatar

I made 380 bucks this afternoon. We ordered out for dinner. Thats all that happened today.

tranquilsea's avatar

I just reconnected with a cousin who I lost contact with over 15 years ago. She’s a beautiful person with some issues due to some child abuse she suffered.

I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with her.

Today I am going with my friend to pick up her new rescue dog. He is a 13 week old Boxer X Staffordshire Bull Terrier and has ended up in the shelter after his “breeders” couldn’t find enough homes for all the puppies their bitch had. I would very much like to cause non life threatening but uncomfortable harm to these idiot backyard breeders but at least he is going to a very good home (one of the best in my opinion). A name is yet to be decided so suggestions would be appreciated. She currently likes Radar and her other half likes Brian!!

Bellatrix's avatar

I will come and cause them harm with you @Leanne1986. It is great you managed to find this puppy a loving home. Hurricane or Rubin. He is a boxer (or he is at least a partial boxer) who has been freed. (Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter).

Brian1946's avatar

@Leanne1986

“She currently likes Radar and her other half likes Brian!!”

If he joins Fluther he can be @Brian2012. ;-)

I discovered this wonderful video that explains how big everything in the known universe is, in easily understandable visuals.

A good one to show your teen-agers.

Yay…having the Merry Maids in at 10am here to treat myself to a spring cleaning. My allergies are just horrible right now and I just couldn’t face the deep cleaning. Soooo…off to my local bakery/cafe soon to loiter and then, home to the immaculate reception! lol
Then, off to deliver a graduation gift for a friends daughter. Her senior trip is to the Bahamas and I found the cutest colorful beach bag with a wild beach towel and a cool photo album for her memories. :-)

harple's avatar

Released today, in June’s edition of a lovely local glossy magazine (similar to Country Living, but based specifically in the county) there’s an article all about me and what I do with my harps :-) Well written, with good photos, it’s the sort of publicity you can’t buy – Really chuffed!

janbb's avatar

@harple Yay for you!

Came up with a new country music song title “I Thought He was Interested in My Plumbing but He Was Only Interested in Plumbing.” :-P

picante's avatar

Congratulations, Harple! I have no doubt you do amazing things with your harps ;-) I hope the exposure leads to many great opportunities for you.

Finished Fifty Shades of Grey and immediately had to download Fifty Shades Darker. In the words of George Takei, “Oh myyy…” I will soon be attending my youngest daughter’s first school awards ceremony, then I am cooking a lovely seafood feast for our Friday evening. Today is greatness!

janbb's avatar

My friend – who it seems is going to remain a friend for now (no nekky pictures) is coming over soon with my bike that he fixed up and to rebuild my bathroom drains. I feel nurtured.

augustlan's avatar

@Fly’s senior prom is tonight, and I’m heading over to help her get ready. Can’t believe she’s graduating high school next week!

blueiiznh's avatar

@janbb sounds like you got a Handy Man

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@janbb No nekked pics yet? You’re slacking!

@augustlan OMG, how bittersweet and fabulous! Related- during Grace’s kindergarten awards today, the teachers yelled, “Congrats to the graduating class of 2024!” Yes, I cried. <sigh> Jade will have her 6th grade graduation next year. They grow up so fast, don’t they?

blueiiznh's avatar

I exchanged a brief chat with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top as I left work tonight heading for my car.

chyna's avatar

@blueiiznh He just happened to be at your place of business?

blueiiznh's avatar

@chyna in the hotel lobby next to my work that I pass through on way to parking garage. The are playing in town.

Coloma's avatar

Congrats @harple! :-)
@blueiiznh Fun! I love old ZZ Top!

tranquilsea's avatar

I just finished my best run ever! No problems with side cramps nor calf cramps. When I got to the end I just wanted to keep on going but I didn’t have the time.

janbb's avatar

@blueiiznh Love that song!

augustlan's avatar

Ooh, I forgot to post this the other day:

@Mangeons got her SAT scores, and she knocked the language sections out of the park! Excellent scores on those two sections.
She’s not thrilled with her math scores, but, like me, math is not her strong suit.

GracieT's avatar

@augustlan, yeah! Reminds me of my problems with math- language sections always terrific, math, not so much. I’m a member of mensa based on my langage scores, but by looking at my math scores you’d never know.

gailcalled's avatar

^^ Psst. Language.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled She got “language” right in her first sentence, sooo, the second was clearly a typo. Down Gail, down! ;-)

gailcalled's avatar

I wouldn’t have bothered without the mensa comment. That made it irresistible. Had it been almost irresistible, I would have resisted. Still recovering from Milo’s and my trip to get his nails cut and my next chore…to fumigate the car and clean out the carrier.

GracieT's avatar

@gailcalled, mea culpa!
I merely mentioned mensa as a way to underscore how ironic my mathmatics test scores were. When I went back to school for a while, just because it sounded fun, I had to take an exam for placement. I still haven’t been able to live down the fact that now I test into pre-algebra. My placement test scores were abysimal!

gailcalled's avatar

^^Gracious of you and mean of me. I blame my cat, Milo. He is always to blame.

GracieT's avatar

(I spelled abysmal incorrectly, also!)

gailcalled's avatar

(MIlo spotted that; I did not.)

Beach day !!!!!!!!!!!

janbb's avatar

Just realized I am really doing this living alone and making my own life thing quite well! Having a barbeque for new and old friends to meet tomorrow.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

We gave one of my stepsons a glider ride for his graduation present. His dad just called and gave me the play by play which sounds like the son got a real thrill. This is important to us because so very little seems to interest or thrill that son except video games.

We just bought two riding mowers for $800!

Coloma's avatar

@Dutchess_III Yay! My gardeners on his way this afternoon, mow for me!

Coloma's avatar

@blueberry_kid Maybe you need to take a bath in a tub of frozen blueberries.
@nikipedia Cool Artichokes!

blueiiznh's avatar

Beach day and antique store browsing day!!!!

chyna's avatar

^Rub it in. :-)
Have a great beach day. I’ll be out on my deck with the water hose pretending I’m at the beach.

janbb's avatar

@chyna You know you’re always invited!

Coloma's avatar

Awesome morning over this way, perfect convergence unfolds. The cat has his summer buzz cut, my house is immaculate, got the yard whipped into shape yesterday and everything looks great! Day 3 of hedonism unfolds, having the offspring and her boyfriend for dinner later, one more day of partying it up, then back on the disciplinary wagon tomorrow. Meanwhile back at the ranch I need to come up with a dinner menu for tonight, oh my, what will it be? :-)

janbb's avatar

Gorgeous day here today too and I am having a barbecue for new and old friends to meet. Had a great time down at the boardwalk last night watching fireworks with walking group friends. Feelin’ groovy!

Coloma's avatar

@janbb Party on…oh man, I can’t take too many holiday days all in a row. lol

chyna's avatar

OMG, ask and you will receive!!! My best friend just called and asked me to go to the beach with her for the week! I’m going!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I’m going to have a wonderful, lazy Memorial Day. We’re going to my mom’s to play in the pool and eat godawful amounts of pizza and hot wings!

janbb's avatar

Sounds lovely – I am working my tailfeathers to the bone getting ready for this BBQ.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Oh, and my stepdad, whom I just call “Dad” these days, will be getting lots and lots and lots of hugs from me. He always gets my hugs, but today is special. He was shot in the head in Vietnam, and survived. He amazes me. Sorry, shameless plug for my dad and I’m mentioning it everywhere lately… but I can’t help it; he really does amaze me. I’ll probably dunk him in the pool a few times too, just because I can, LOL!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My onetime every-Sunday brunch pal wrote me today she’s feeling up to getting together again! A few years back, I started working double shift weekends and she had grown kids who were moving back home and out and in again so we both had a lot of stuff going on. I have missed her so much.

AshLeigh's avatar

I’m eating pop rocks. chshhhhhhhhhhhhh. chshhhhhhhhhhhhh. :D
Pop. Pop. Pop.

janbb's avatar

My barbeque went terrifically well and it feels like a milestone in my new, independent life. Old friends met new friends and all got along really well.

tranquilsea's avatar

Today is our 18th wedding anniversary. We went to Banff for the weekend and had our celebratory dinner last night. GIANT note to self: getting the 8 course meal with accompanying new wine each course sounds like a good idea but is a BAD idea the day after. The staff were overly generous with the wine portions and we both ended up not remembering much of the last 2 courses. Plus today I’ve had one giant hangover.

blueberry_kid's avatar

@tranquilsea Congratulations!

I finished my laundry!!!

augustlan's avatar

Congrats, @tranquilsea! Hope that wine hangover is long gone. :)

janbb's avatar

I am Penguin – hear me ROAR!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

That was a roar? It was creepy. Never do that again.

janbb's avatar

—sob,sob, sob, sob, sob….—-

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

There, there, Ms. Penguin. You’ll be alright. Cookie?

gailcalled's avatar

Don’t let that penguin avatar fool you.

This is who’s really running the show.

janbb's avatar

I actually do think I qualify as a cougar, at the mo! (blush)

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

You naughty, naughty girl!

janbb's avatar

well, not quite there yet but I have some lovely arm candy as a good friend.

tranquilsea's avatar

Thanks @augustlan The hangover is gone today thank god. I hadn’t felt that bad since I was a teenager lol

Coloma's avatar

@tranquilsea It’s been a 3 day hangover for me. lol Part party and part just exhaustion. :-P

A great day of quiet for me. Had a fun weekend but am completely flatlined. No big things to do til the end of the week. Coloma is sitting on her deck staring into the hills with a glazed look in her eye, but…everything is in awesome shape so I can stare as long as I want. lol

AshLeigh's avatar

Today my boyfriend called me (and woke me up) at 8 AM and announced that I was coming to his house, and he was picking me up in a few minutes.
We were hanging out in the living room, watching American Dad, when he announced to his mother and I that he wants to live with me when we’re eighteen.
O.O <—- My face.
:D <—His mothers face.

I’m sure that sounds foolish, but oh well.

Bellatrix's avatar

Not foolish. I just hope he talked about this with you first and I hope you will not be so swept up in the idea that you won’t take the time to think about whether this is what you want to do? Where is he suggesting you both live and how does this fit with your own hopes and dreams for your own future?

janbb's avatar

Jake is three years old today and I get to see him on Friday!

Coloma's avatar

8:37 am in California and a magnificent morning unfolding up here in my hills. I was just out wandering around the yard with the cats and the baby tree frog explosion is in full swing. My yard is covered in miniscule ¼ inch long baby Pacific tree frogs. They are migrating up from the little stream that runs below my deck and you can barely take a step without several hopping up out of the grass.

It’s a sight to behold….the hills are alive, with frogs! lol

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My dog walked into his crate by himself and then went to sleep. We just got the crate a few weeks back so the dog could learn to sleep during the night when we do and not wake us up so early in the mornings. At first, my husband thought the crate was sad for the dog at night but now he sees it’s a calm spot the dog is taking to. Yay sleep!

blueberry_kid's avatar

My grades have increased remarkably. I’m officially, a straight B student. I got B’s on all my exams, and combined, all my final grades are B’s. Except Gym, and Senior Orchestra of course, A in those classes.

I’m so HAPPY!!! New cell phone for me.

Sophomore year…here I come!

gailcalled's avatar

@blueberry_kid: Wonderful news. Keep it up.

AshLeigh's avatar

@Bellatrix, he’d mentioned it, but I didn’t think he was that serious.
I have a year until we’re 18, so I have time to consider it. I don’t know where I’ll be in a year, or even that we’ll still be together. Although, I want to be, but things happen.
I’m not going to be stupid about it. Sure, it sounds nice, but we’re probably too young.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I have a brand new microwave that my hubby kindly installed for me last night with much cursing and groaning involved (he had to drill all new holes, LOL), I’ve just cleaned my kitchen from top to bottom and did a deep clean around my sink and fridge, I’m getting ready to experiment with another new cookie, and it’s storming loudly and wonderfully outside. Today is a good day.

AshLeigh's avatar

Just got a text message from my brother. He and his fiance are having a baby girl!

janbb's avatar

AshLeigh's avatar

Sigh Fiiine. :(

janbb's avatar

@AshLeigh Mazel Tov on the great news!

Brian1946's avatar

This is more esoterically interesting than it is great, but I just discovered the time setting for Gunsmoke.

In an episode titled The Good Samaritans, Dillon hands a sheriff a note verifying that he’s a US Marshall, and the note is dated 1875.

The episode aired in 1969, at which time James Arness was about 45, so it’s plausible that Dillon was born about 1830.

By those parameters, Doc Adams was born about the same time as Abe Linkin. ;-p

My house was just cleaned. I’m talking about the kind of clean where in one afternoon, the refrigerator and freezer are cleaned, behind and under it cleaned, same with the stove. My washing machine was even cleaned up of the past renter’s grunge. Every bit of furniture and cabinetry has been dusted, scrubbed and some of them oiled. On their way out the door, the gals swept the entryway and walkway. Wow. I even have some day off left!

Coloma's avatar

@Neizvestnaya Yay..clean house! I had Merry Maids last Friday and things are still perfect today! God, housekeepers are better than sex. lol

nikipedia's avatar

@Coloma, I was thinking of sending my best friend a gift certificate for a cleaning service for her birthday. What do you think, would it work out ok as a gift?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I had a blast with my daughters today, and they both look all polished and “modelish”, LOL. They both got their nails and their hair done. Their hair included those popular, brightly colored feathers. All the neighborhood kids have showered them with compliments, and my kiddos are just glowing!

Coloma's avatar

@nikipedia I’d think so, any woman that turns down a free housekeeping is insane! lol

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Yes, better than sex but nowhere near as good as sex in a cleaned house. Wee!

Yay!
I have been going crazy wanting to set things up but having to wait for the paint job.
I live on my deck in the summer and it is like an outdoor living room. :-)

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My mother was acting hateful that we’d paid to bring in an outside housecleaner until she realized what all they did. I told her (at her age, in her health) that I didn’t want to chance her slipping or bonking her head to do such things as clean the tracks of her window sills, clean individual window blind slats, scrub behind toilets and up and down walls of shower surrounds. She got it and thanked me this morning over coffee.

Work things went better than expected. (I can’t share any more details or I’d be gun-jumping )..but what looked like it was going to be a non-existent quarterly bonus now looks like it might be sizable instead.

In parallel to this good news..hubby located some inexpensive air tickets that would enable me to take the the youngest 2 kids on a beach vacation at my dad’s vacation house in the coastal Carolinas for the first time since one was in diapers and the other was merely a twinkle in our eyes.

So..for the first time in nearly a decade…I might have an actual (destination) vacation at the end of this summer. Pretty excited at the prospect..

Thanks to the Queen’s Jubilee I now have a nice, long weekend ahead of me (as does most of Britain). I don’t have to go back to work until Wednesday. Woohoo!! Long live the Queen :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

I still have a foosball table!

blueberry_kid's avatar

@Dutchess_III—Well, I was looking into what age I could get lasik surgery, but there’s a numbing agent in it that I’m allergic to.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The contacts they make now a days are really NICE. And inexpensive. My first pair cost over $500, I think.

janbb's avatar

Having a very sweet time on the playground tour of Paris!

Coloma's avatar

@janbb Yay…tear it up Madam!

9:45 a.m. on the west coast and I am sitting under the ceiling fan fluthering while my deck is being sanded and primered for it’s new paint job. I picked this really cool mossy green paint/stain, I think it’s going to look great! NOW….if only the painter and I can stop babbling maybe he’ll get it done this afternoon. lol
Ice cold beer on standby come lunch time. Gotta treat your helpers well. :-D

Neizvestnaya's avatar

A very nice man dropped by my work with breakfast.
hubby

Coloma's avatar

@Neizvestnaya Breakfast at Tiffanys? lol

Neizvestnaya's avatar

@Coloma: McDonald’s but I’m sure I could find some stuff in T’s :)

blueiiznh's avatar

I had my umbrella during a downpour.

Coloma's avatar

My newly painted deck looks great, but now, my cat is sick, might be off to the emergency vet tonight…gah…always something. For every positive there’s a negative. PFFFT!

Bellatrix's avatar

Oh I hope your cat is fine. Which cat is it @Coloma? Lots of pats and TLC and positive thoughts coming your way.

Coloma's avatar

@Bellatrix It’s my little Siamese who is 3. She has been vomiting and not eating the last few days and seems like she is in pain when I rub her stomach. Otherwise she is still active but…something is wrong. I think she’ll be okay til tomorrow morning, but…something is not right, sooo, contemplating an emergency trip.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I had someone to talk to in a desperate time of need this morning. It’s great when you realise that you can trust someone enough to open up to them. That doesn’t happen to me very often.

gailcalled's avatar

The tomato plant that I put into a huge pot three weeks ago has four little green tomatoes growing. Thrilling every year.

It now has its own personal basil plantthat I put in yesterday. There is also an accidental dill, two Icelandic poppies and a Johnny-jump-up, all for the price of good soil and diligent watering.

blueberry_kid's avatar

I’m starting a yard sale, and I finally cleaned out my massacre of a bookshelf. 13 old books, and so much more clothing I need to go through.

AshLeigh's avatar

Almost all set up for going on my trip. <3

blueiiznh's avatar

I am in Vegas at a conference and can’t post it because it has to stay in Vegas

janbb's avatar

@blueiiznh And I am in Paris and it has to stay in Paris…...

OpryLeigh's avatar

I have had an enjoyable day. I took the dogs (including the Lurcher, Harvey, I am currently looking after) out for a long walk with my dad. Watched yesterday’s jubilee celebrations on the Thames that my dad had recorded for me. That resulted in my dad reminiscing about his Navy days which I always love hearing about. Tonight it only took me about 15 minutes to get the chickens (who I am also looking after) into their hut for the night (the last couple of nights it’s taken me about an hour to round them all up and get them to go in their hut). Now I am relaxing in front of the tv watching the Jubilee concert which is taking place at Buckingham Palace!

Coloma's avatar

Classic irony this morning. lol
Sooo, my kitty Mia has been off her food and intermittently vomiting the last 5–6 days and I took her into the vet this morning. No temp. not dehydrated but they still gave her 150cc’s of sub cue fluids just in case.
Also an anti nausea med., an appetite stimulant and some special bland prescription canned food.

Vet couldn’t feel any masses when palpating her belly, no sign of pain, so thinks it might just be a mysterious gastritis thing. Anyway, got home, and she went to her dry food bowl, ate a little, ate some canned food, and NOW is racing around the house playing with Myles with her giant bubble of fluids bobbling around on her shoulder.

Better safe than sorry, and the vet said that she often sees cats that are “turning the corner” for better when the owners bring them in. Oh the irony…the $130 vet trip for most likely nothing. ()&^%(&$!!! Otherwise a great rainy day and at least I know my kitty is not at deaths door. Probably just ate a bad lizard. haha :-/

Bellatrix's avatar

Glad she is fine @Coloma. I remember a neighbour coming to me and saying my boy cat (who spent much time allowing her to indulge him and she loved him for it) seemed unwell. She brought him home and he seemed very listless and lacking energy. He was floppy and unresponsive. So, we called the vet who was closing but said he would wait for us to get there. We put the cat in his carry box and rushed to the vets. When we arrived we opened the box and he walked out, stretching and yawning and looked at us as if to say “what’s with the visit to this dude?” Nothing wrong with him. He was just ‘tired’ apparently. Cost us a fortune for an emergency vet visit.

Cats…

Coloma's avatar

@Bellatrix Haha….I swear….too funny!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My oldest stepchild who had previously told us he didn’t want to go into the service, go to work, go to school or anything… this kid just scored very highly on his junior college placement tests to where his school counselor told him he’d be able to qualify for some aid money. Yay!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

My mommy’s birthday was today, so I got to sing to her and deliver her present. We have our issues, but holy crap I adore my mother!

augustlan's avatar

I watched my oldest child, @Fly, graduate with highest honors today. I’m so damn proud of her, and I didn’t even cry til after it was over! Then her grandmother started reminiscing about the day she was born, and before long we were both in tears. It was all very moving.

blueberry_kid's avatar

I ended the year (fourth quarter) with STRAIGHT A’s! My exams were all STRAIGHT B’s! THAT MAKES ME A STRAIGHT A-B STUDENT!!

I’m so happy I’m smart. Sophomore year’s got another thing commin.

GracieT's avatar

@blueberry_kid, congrats! I remember that feeling of being so proud of myself- you have every right to be proud.

blueberry_kid's avatar

Since there have been 4 or 5 posts about grades, this should bring the U.S. at least one spot up on most educational countries. The U.S is fourth from the bottom, now, it’s fifth.

tranquilsea's avatar

Last year I had fasciotomy surgery on my tibialis anterior muscle and over the last couple of weeks I’ve been able to extend my running intervals beyond anything I’ve been able to do since I was a teenager!!! I am soo happy that my cardiovascular health is coming back to me.

Brian1946's avatar

@blueberry_kid

You’re the rising tide that floats our boats! ;-)

linguaphile's avatar

I just had the best ‘last day of work’ I could have had with my students. We had our annual Field Day and I was assigned to an all-boy team filled with hyper and goofy boys so I spent most of the day laughing at and with them. The day ended with me getting doused with over 30 water balloons and a trash can full of water—

Today was my last day with students—it was a wonderful day, but bittersweet. Tomorrow’s my last day at that job. Whoo…!

augustlan's avatar

I got a lovely card in the mail from a jelly-friend. Sweet!

AshLeigh's avatar

Catching up with my homeboy, @Pisces. And I’m almost done writing a new song.

janbb's avatar

Having a great albeit wet time with friends in England.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@janbb There is only one way to describe this weather we’re having…..shite!

blueberry_kid's avatar

I learned how to dougie.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@janbb Our weather is currently very wet, also!

While it was storming yesterday, we had a lovely time playing board games and eating yummy food. It’s still storming off and on today, and we’re just chillin’ at home, watching TV, talking, and playing more games! I love rainy summer days.

blueiiznh's avatar

Still enjoying Vegas on about 2 hours sleep per day.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

This is kind of linked to a post @Dutchess_III made last week regarding dreams and if we ever get help from them or solve mysteries by them. Well, yes! I’ve been frustrated by what seemed like a dead end researching one of my grandfather’s parents but I did dream last night of a church parish name that seemed similar phonetically to one I saw written down on his marriage record. Sure enough, there is such a place and such a parish and I know have two more generations of relatives researched for him.

AshLeigh's avatar

Something great that happened to the world: Nutela.

Coloma's avatar

Saw the new Men in black movie with my daughter tonight, fun movie! On the down side I ate a giant box of Whoppers. lol

augustlan's avatar

@Coloma There is no downside to Whoppers. ;)

blueiiznh's avatar

TSA let me through

chyna's avatar

@blueiiznh That’s surprising considering all the “Vegas secrets” you must be carrying.

blueiiznh's avatar

@Chyna Yea, they lingered and oogled as they scanned and patted down my short term memory.

Coloma's avatar

@augustlan Well..the downside is they go straight to your downside. lol

OpryLeigh's avatar

I went to a zumba class today and actually enjoyed it. It was a decent workout!

Coloma's avatar

Kicking major a$$ on my yard sale prep. I have so much stuff, and it’s all cool stuff!
Well, truly cool and cool according to my definition of “cool.” haha
I have scads of wild tights in every color and pattern known to womanhood. I have a gourd drum, drum playing books, cd’s, sticks. I have a brand new juicer used once, an electric food chopper, an awesome original painting, battery operated camping lantern, tons of newer DVD’s, storage units, containers, candle holders, buckskin cavalry riding gloves, vintage mink stole, antique linens and baby clothes, books, chinese lanterns, purses, wooden breakfast trays, flood lights, clip on lights, really nice ceramic garden pots, pet stuff, vintage unique upholstered sitting bench…..etc. etc. etc.

Yard sale at Colomas next Saturday! :-)

tranquilsea's avatar

I dragged my sleep deprived bum out for my run today and managed to run my whole programme without feeling like I was dying. My time was a little worse but that’s not surprising as I felt like I was dragging a 10lb weight around with me. Ten minutes after I got back home it started pouring. What timing!

Coloma's avatar

@tranquilsea LOL..I thought you said “10 minutes after I got back home I started pouring!”
That’s what I do, exercise then drink a few beers. hahaha

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My FIL who’s had multiple surgeries to remove cancerous tissue from his nose just got home after a successful vein graft and 2nd reconstruction.

tranquilsea's avatar

@Coloma lol I did have to pee like an SOB when I walked in.

blueiiznh's avatar

I woke up in my own bed :p

gailcalled's avatar

At 5:30 AM when I staggered out of bed, eyes half-closed, in order to pee, I did luckily notice a dead mouse on the bedroom rug, waiting for me to trip and break something important.

Thus, I was able to retrieve it with grabbers and toss it into the woods.

In some ways, it was nice. Our first summer together, in 2008, Milo brought me 50 dead mice, voles or birds. This year it has been only 4. Does that mean we have become complacent about our relationship?

chyna's avatar

@gailcalled That reminds me of the song “You don’t bring me flowers anymore” with Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond. Only the title of your song will be “You don’t bring me dead mice anymore”.

gailcalled's avatar

@chyna: Too true. I will make sure himself reads your comment.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled It means the small wildlife has dispersed from the territory of the killer.

Yard sale prep coming along splendidly, although I wore myself out last night.
Stayed up til 1am gathering and cleaning and sorting. Oh it feels so good to get rid of stuff. No hoarding worries for me.

Now I just have to decide if I am going to sell a vintage bench that my cats love sleeping on in the garage. Oh what to do, what to do? It really needs a new home where it will be enjoyed but dare I take away the summer camp out digs from the kittens? :-/

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: Remember that anything you keep will need to be dusted, repaired or replaced. When in doubt, throw it out.

Cats are kind of amazingly resourceful.

I hope you make lots of money. It is interesting how your junk is treasure to other people.

OpryLeigh's avatar

It didn’t rain on our Agility workshop today :)

gailcalled's avatar

No dead rodents anywhere in evidence today. To Milo’s credit, at least he leaves them somewhere really obvious rather than hiding them.

janbb's avatar

Last two days of a very successful trip and then looking forward to being home.

gailcalled's avatar

@janbb: Delighted to hear this. (Did you kiss any Frenchmen, per earlier instructions?)

janbb's avatar

Is Jake French?

gailcalled's avatar

Not precisely what I had in mind, chére,)

Dutchess_III's avatar

After 10 years I FINALLY got my dining room chairs recovered and the seats secured to the base! I guess was waiting till I found an entire bolt of beautiful material for $5 at a garage sale. :) I’m sure people are going to miss the sudden drops they’d experience before!

Of course, one thing led to another and now my house is partially rearranged.

augustlan's avatar

@Dutchess_III Beautiful chair! I have chair envy.

Dutchess_III's avatar

:) It is nice, isn’t it! I picked up the chairs, the dining room table and a buffet at a flea market in the late 80’s for $600. I’m guessing that the bolt of material I picked up a couple of weeks ago for $5.00 would have cost over $100…maybe much more, if I had bought it from a store. It’s that heavy, kind of rough stuff that is perfect for chairs and couches. I have enough left over for accents of some kind, like curtains, in my dining room….if I ever get one again!

Dutchess_III's avatar

Dang it! I rotated in in photobucket but I guess it didn’t stick! Sorry about that.

augustlan's avatar

It shows up the right way when I view it. Your broswer probably just has an old cookie with the original image.

linguaphile's avatar

I woke up from bad dreams, but then went to a graduation party at the most beautiful house I’ve ever seen, with 6 separate gardens in their wooded backyard bordering a reed-rimmed lake. Just walking around was peaceful and simply gorgeous.

Then had a 2 hour chat with my best friend, followed by a hour chat with another good friend! Ahh… summer!

tranquilsea's avatar

I saw geese with their goslings today on my run. Cute.

Coloma's avatar

@tranquilsea Awwww….geezers and goslings!

Man oh man, have I ever burned the candle at both ends the last 3 days. Up til 1am, and 2am all weekend including last night kicking behind around the zone over here. I have so much yard sale stuff, I hope I make some nice extra cash and get rid of stuff too. rearranged my living room yesterday too, lookin’ good around the ol’ homestead.

My girl friend is being paranoid about running a garage sale ad on C’sList…whatever….I just don’t get paranoid about that sort of thing but, she’s a suspicious personality anyway.
I highly doubt we will be murdered for a juicer and palate of flagstone. lol

tranquilsea's avatar

@Coloma isn’t it nice when you have a great productive weekend?

Coloma's avatar

@tranquilsea Yes it feels great! Accept that I have exhausted myself, oh well, I can die today and everything is in order. lol

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: What on earth is a palate of flagstones?

nikipedia's avatar

@gailcalled, I think perhaps she meant a pallet of flagstones.

janbb's avatar

Going home tomorrow. Have had a great trip but now I want to be home!

blueberry_kid's avatar

These conditioning camps better give me thighs and abs of steel by the end of summer.

Coloma's avatar

—@gailcalled Well, I was unclear on that but forged ahead anyway on a guess. haha
@nikipedia Yes, thanks. lol

linguaphile's avatar

I got my official court documents from my divorce and went to the social security office, the driver’s license office, the bank, the utility companies—my name’s all changed!!! Yay!!!

augustlan's avatar

Our third grandchild was born today! My husband has adult sons who keep us supplied. ;) Baby boy, named after his father and great grandfather, so he’s a “third”. All are doing well.

gailcalled's avatar

@linguaphile : So, I can recycle the gorilla suit? Congratulations.

linguaphile's avatar

@gailcalled You sure can :D

Congrats, Auggie—you’ve had a heck of a week as a mama and grandma!!! Warm fuzzies for you!!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I finally emerged from my True Blood coma, after the four days it took me to watch the entire series and get caught up. Holy hell. But, now I have my life back, haha.

AshLeigh's avatar

Hercules. The Legendary Journeys.
He’s so dreamy♥

Brian1946's avatar

@AshLeigh Are you referring to Kelvin Sorbet, the guy whom plays him? ;-p

gailcalled's avatar

I drove 20 minutes through lush green fields dotted with sheep to our county clerk’s office. I didn’t hit any deer, I found a free parking space and there were no lines. The clerk got me a copy of the deed to my house and the mortgage pay-off, charged me $4.05 and showed me pix of her new grand-son.

In and out in ten minutes, I had a nice salad with a friend and then discovered a huge area of brightly-colored California poppies. They are growing in drainage ditches and weedy road edges. That means when they set seed later in the summer, I can sneak in wander over and harvest the seed pods. It’s similar to adopting orphans.

janbb's avatar

I came home today. Very good trip but time to get back to my new, exciting life at the Jersey Shore.

AngryWhiteMale's avatar

@gailcalled, I love California poppies! One of my favorite flowers.

gailcalled's avatar

@AngryWhiteMale:

These were growing magically in huge ditches filled with tons of large stones, and in weedy and dry areas where even the most self-respecting goldenrod won’t.

If I am arrested while snipping seed pods, some dark night, for trespassing, will you bail me out?

Do you garden?

Coloma's avatar

gailcalled I almost ran off the road a few weeks ago looking at a grove of poppies in my area over here.
I swear this is how I will die, sailing off a cliff while distracted by trees and flowers in my travels. haha

11:20 on the west coast, Weds. my little abode is so tidy and just got off the phone with my friend planning our yard sale for Sat. I am spending the night at her place Friday and we are planning a pizza and beer party and then, up early to peddle our wares. I will have a great time no doubt, totally in my element, playing comedic sales person…...” and now, I would like all of you to turn your attention to THIS amazing box of fun stuff, replete with one mint condition sand bag that I was going to bury my cat in last summer, but alas, the cat would not fit in the bag!”

” Now what is your opening bid on this magical grab box of eclectic treasures?” lolol

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I helped my mom pack up her dining room stuff, and was told to clear off my china hutch, because I’m getting her antique hutch and her Blue Willow dishes. Woohoo!

janbb's avatar

Moved the last of G’s stuff out of my bedroom.

blueberry_kid's avatar

Our volleyball team was officially rated amazing. And we beat one of the best teams in Cincinnati today.

Coloma's avatar

@janbb Great! Now…buy a new bed, gotta get rid of all subtle traces. lol

AngryWhiteMale's avatar

@gailcalled, will definitely bail you out! :-) Yes, the California poppy is a hardy one, isn’t it? Seems to do well by the roadside; certainly didn’t when I tried to plant it (I am NOT a green thumb type, unfortunately….).

Coloma's avatar

A great summery might here, 11:07 pm and still in the low 70’s, house wide open and I want to go to bed but…being the nature nut that I am, well…I can’t bring myself to turn off the porch light and leave all the baby tree frogs in the dark who are so valiantly stalking their buggy prey under the porch light. Sooo, here I sit a bit longer so the frog babies get their supper. :-p

harple's avatar

Despite an upsetting week, where I returned off holiday to a very unhappy vehicle which is probably going to cost upwards of £600 to fix (over $900) I can rejoice in the fact that I am alive (part of the way the unhappy vehicle let me know was by throwing me across the carriageway as the torsion bar snapped in two – pretty scary), and I am sitting here printing out photos from a very special holiday… :-)

linguaphile's avatar

@janbb Yesh, get rid of the mattress at least! That was the second thing I did. Ick. I don’t think there was a more liberating moment.

I’m having a great week, setting up for a yard sale and Mother Nature is blessing me with 60’s and 70’s temps!!

Coloma's avatar

@linguaphile Yes, I so agree. I bought a new memory foam bed, with no memories of the ex. lol
I’m having a yard sale too on Saturday! Sadly it will be the hottest day if the year so far, around 100 or more. Bleh, but, will start early and drink a few cold beers later.

chyna's avatar

@Coloma Have a great yard sale. I used to buy a case of water for about 2.99 and put it on ice and sell them for .50 a bottle. On a hot day like you are expecting, you could make some money on water alone!

Coloma's avatar

@chyna Hey, good idea..wanna be my yard sale assistant? lol

blueiiznh's avatar

A nice evening swim to wash away the work day!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I made the decision to let my kids take the summer off from gymnastics, and I don’t give a crap if any friends or family get upset over it. Yay me. :D

janbb's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Yay for summers off!

I cooked a proper supper for myself tonight for the first time in months and I feel really and truly happy with my life right now.

augustlan's avatar

@harple Glad you’re okay!

Dutchess_III's avatar

SO many things. I love my job. I love my class. I love my students. I love ALL my convicted felons. Ms V’s class just rocks on.

Yay @janbb. Time heals…..

blueiiznh's avatar

A fellow jelly helped me through what was a sad day otherwise. ty ty You made a difference!

linguaphile's avatar

Today…. I went through over 50 boxes/crates of books and decimated it to 35 crates. About 500 books are ready, all set up prettily for the yard sale. For a book-hoarder, a 15+ boxes/crate reduction is huge. :-P

Coloma's avatar

10:22 pm and I need dinner. lol
A nice day, mixed bag, a few stressors, but, all in all good.
I promised my daughter I’d call her back in 30 minutes but my phone is almost dead and I am hungry, oookay…well, 5 minutes to eat, 10 more on the charge and then I will be ready to hear her ” I have something amusing to tell you” moment!

Jesus, where the hell has the time gone, I am living in a time warp, one minute it’s 10am the next it’s 10pm….make it STOP!

AshLeigh's avatar

We fixed the washer! I can do laundry again!

tranquilsea's avatar

My hubby woke me up in an, hrm…um…gosh…delightful way.

geeky_mama's avatar

Officially booked tickets for me & two of our kids to go on vacation at an ocean-front home with a swimming pool (that my parents are co-op owners of, so it’s free for us to stay) at the end of this summer.
I haven’t been on a vacation in over a decade at this point – so it’s a pretty big deal to me. I think hubby is considering this my belated 40th b-day present.

I used a lot of hotel & rental car points and FF miles to bring the cost down considerably..and was so excited after getting the bookings completed last night that I couldn’t fall asleep until nearly 3am!

Dutchess_III's avatar

Still getting used to the idea of making more money and working fewer hours. Got a hefty raise…and cut back to 4 days a week, M-Th. :)

Coloma's avatar

@Dutchess_III Take your hefty raise and shove it…..right into some fun stuff for yourself!

Oh man, 24 hours away from the big yard sale moment. I have 4 hours to get all sorts of last minute things done, set up the animals for overnight, water all my plants and yard before the heat wave kicks in over the weekend, pack an overnight bag, finish loading my car, and then meet at my friends to unload and start making the signs to hang up this evening. Foolish me I ended up staying up til almost 2am and am not going into my day feeling fresh as a daisy, more like a wilted weed. haha

Wish me luck, lots of extra cash and nothing to haul back home again!
Happy weekend fellow flutherites!

AshLeigh's avatar

Went to get a new phone, after I somehow managed to water damage it, while I was talking on it…. Haha.

augustlan's avatar

Found out that @Fly does not have a stress fracture in her foot, just a cyst. Great news for us!

AshLeigh's avatar

Just got home from hanging out with the boyfriend. Six months together, as of today.

Also, six days until I go off into the world of the unknown for four days. Can’t wait to see everyone, but it’s gonna be a long four days.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I booked the flights for my holiday today!

blueiiznh's avatar

I just got tickets to the Neil Young – Crazy Horse fall tour at the Boston Garden

Dutchess_III's avatar

Found out my daughter FINALLY bought tickets to get her son back home for the summer! He’ll be 17 in July, and a Sr. in HS next year. This is his last year of….“childhood” and I didn’t want to miss a minute more than I have to.

GracieT's avatar

@Dutchess_lll,
YEAH! I know it seems like forever to the kid in high school, but to the parent it is like a millisecond between kindergarten and graduation.

gailcalled's avatar

Last night I put a small Havahart, baited with peanut butter that was glued down with a trisect, on the car floor; this morning was apparently good news for the mouse, who got away scott free with the canapé.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

My supremely picky children found some clothes that they actually like today. I’m ridiculously excited about this. I think they have sensory issues, which makes it extremely difficult to shop for shorts and bras. UGH!

Dutchess_III's avatar

@GracieT Yeah…the walk out the door for their first day of kindergarten, and they walk back in on the last day of their Senior year. :(

Dutchess_III's avatar

I will never forget my son’s 16th summer. All summer he and his buddies wore nothing but shorts. No shirt no shoes. The did a lot of jumping off of things into the river. They were in and out all summer long. Tanned, dirty, barefoot and deliriously happy! I tried to imprint each and every day in my mind because I knew it would never come again. He’s 24 now. They tried to recapture it the next summer but…they couldn’t. One friend went into the army, another moved to Missouri.

nikipedia's avatar

My partner and I had some really good talks last night and are planning a very fun date night tonight!

Coloma's avatar

Yard sale was a great success! I made almost $200!!!
Woo Hoo!
Had people showing up at 7:30 am when the signs said 8–2.
Uh….come back in a half hour!

My girlfriend and I had wine last night and set up the yard with all our treasures and clothes and had great fun outside making creative displays in her front yard which is very private and shady. Just got in about an hour ago, hot, sweaty, sunburned on this first 103 degree day.
Gah! My house is an inferno and the AC is working hard right now.

Also a big scare, police and fire trucks blocking my road when I came down the highway.
Tis wildfire season and the shortcut road back down to my canyon was closed by the CHP as well as a second secret access road, but I was allowed in via another route. The fire has taken one home and is about 1.5 miles from me but shouldn’t be cause for concern. Still…nothing like smoke on the mountain to get your heart beating.
I just hosed down the patio and am overflowing my hot tub with icey cold water.

Coloma’s going to be submerged for hours tonight. lol

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: Well done. Looking back at the labor and time, was it worth it? Of course, in addition to the $200, you did declutter, which is priceless.

Brian1946's avatar

@Coloma

Tis wildfire season….

How much brush clearance do you have around your structures?

Dutchess_III's avatar

I did a garage sale once. NEVER again.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled Oh yes, very worth it! Fun with a friend, lighten the load, get cash for weirdness. lol I had some good stuff and people found some great deals, a win/win for all! :-)

@Brian1946 Yep, I’m good, clearance of minimum 30 feet, no tall dry weeds/grass, big lawn, 200PSI water pressure on my hill and the heaviest duty hose you can buy. It’s a wild hose that can stand alone when cranked up full blast. I also water the outskirts of my yard and backside of my house a lot when it is very hot but…..if a raging fire sweeps through these hills, tons of trees, brush, downed branches, pine cones etc….well….plenty of fuel to get outta control.

Always scary from now through October up here.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Payday was yesterday so I added a few more goodies to our vacation.

janbb's avatar

Had a great day out at a meetup picnic hanging out with some close new friends. Went kayaking for a while and enjoyed it.

AshLeigh's avatar

Five days!
Today, I stacked wood for some people from church, with some other kids. Had a nice time, working, and joking.
Getting everything all set up for my trip in five days. It’s creeping up on me faster than it usually does. I can’t wait to see my best friend!

GracieT's avatar

Spent time tonight at local sketch comedy theatre with good friends. (room-mate from college and her daughter and sister). Always funny shows, and part of price for tickets goes to camp for local high school thespians.

I went through a drive through for my coffee and when I got to the window I was told that the car in front of me paid for it!
I was happy for their kind gesture. I then rehanded her my card and said I was going to pay it back and paid for the car behind me.

Coloma's avatar

@blueiiznh That’s great…thanks for the reminder, it’s about time I commit a little act of random kindness myself, maybe today! :-)

gailcalled's avatar

The mouse that roars in my car got away with another peanut butter and trisket sandwich and sprang the Havahart again.

janbb's avatar

@gailcalled peanut butter and brisket? Where’s that trap?

gailcalled's avatar

@janbb: Get out your reading glasses, granny.

MY tomato plant has 9 green tomatoes and they are looking bigger every day.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled

Awww…I can’t help but root for the mouse a bit. All that energy from the PB is giving him higher problem solving ability. lol
Last night I was under siege of the frogs. I couldn’t even go in and out my screen door onto my deck without frogs ricocheting off the walls, gazillions of some swarming little leaf hoppers zinging into the house and always having to scan the door jam for frogs before they get the axe upon closing. Lord, running the summer gauntlet of frogs, lizards and insects over here.

I did enjoy the colorful array of frogs though. I have red/rusty frogs, dark green frogs, brown and green frogs, gray striped frogs, lime green frogs, and black frogs. A veritable rainbow of amphibians for my viewing pleasure. The lime green frogs look striking against my sheer amber brown curtains. If I can’t beat ‘em figure I can incorporate them into my decorataing scheme. haha

My boyfriend shared a MacDonalds with me today. He usually hates MacDonalds but, despite the fact I wish I didn’t, I love it! It’s been my guilty little secret from him up until now but today he wanted a milkshake and MacDs was the only place open near us that sells them. When we got to the drive through, their milkshake machine was broken so instead we shared some chicken nuggets and ice cream and he didn’t hate it! I only treat myself to MacDs every 3 or 4 months but at least now I don’t have to pretend otherwise!!!

Coloma's avatar

@Leanne1986 Don’t feel bad, I have been craving eggs benedict smothered in hollendaise (sp?)sauce…omg…I haven’t had it in years. The original heart attack on a plate. lol

A Fathers Day at the beach with my daughter today.

@Coloma I can’t lie, one of the things I love about my holidays in America is the amazing (massive) breakfasts!! Those are a big guilty pleasure of mine when I am stateside. Roll on September!!

blueberry_kid's avatar

At 8:12 a.m. today, I woke up.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Father’s Day out with my husband and in-laws was fantastic. It was relaxing, delicious and fun. We gathered for breakfast the drove up to the mountains for an afternoon ride on a steam train and then a casual but scenic dinner as the sun was setting.

blueberry_kid's avatar

Oh! Yesterday my step-father loved his father’s day present, that I spent FOREVER getting. My douchey father received a phone call, in which he didn’t even pick up the phone.

AshLeigh's avatar

Just found out a friend of mine safely delivered her baby one month early last night. :)

OpryLeigh's avatar

It’s my birthday today and I am going to see Phantom of the Opera tonight for the gajillionth time! It’s my favourite.

harple's avatar

Ooh, Happy Birthday @Leanne1986! I love Phantom, so very jealous! I’m playing in the pit for a local school production of it in November though, and can’t wait!

Coloma's avatar

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! @Leanne1986

Aaaah…Coloma is ⅔rds of the way to recovery from my insane weekend. Much cooler the last 2 nights and I have actually gotten some good sleep. Summer breeze makes me feel fine…. :-)
My energy style is warp speed then crash. If I were an animal I would have been a race horse. Race me then put me up in the barn for a week to recover. lol

janbb's avatar

Happy Birthday @Leanne1986 !

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Happy Birthday to @Leanne1986 :)

1996 was the last time I got to see my sisters and brothers in one place, all at the same time so it was pure excitement to learn last night that they’ll all be gathering at the end of next month in one state where I can fly to meet up.

GracieT's avatar

@Leanne, happy birthday! I will add more later!

janbb's avatar

I felt like shit, had a good therapy session and now I don’t.

OpryLeigh's avatar

Thank you for the birthday wishes, I had a really lovely day!

I’m eating pizza now!

nikipedia's avatar

Today I landed on FREE PARKING! I was waiting to pay at a machine in a parking garage, and a guy came up to me and said he was done with his day pass and I could have it.

janbb's avatar

I went through a rough spot with a friend and reestablished it on a firmer footing.

gailcalled's avatar

Here are the poppies I saw last week, about to set millions of seeds, some of which that will be begging to be harvested (by me), I am sure. They are Shirley or corn poppies and not California ones.

Coming up my drive, by the pond, I watched two male redwing blackbirds dive-bomb a male turkey. He looked annoyed and seriously henpecked.

Mariah's avatar

So I am 20 years old and still don’t have my driver’s license, which makes me feel like kind of a loser. My something great is that today I was practicing parallel parking for my road test, which has always been a sticking point for me (in my state you automatically fail if you bump the curb, which to me is so silly), and I usually have maybe a 70% success rate, which isn’t great because I know I’ll probably perform at my worst when I’m nervous. Well today I was parking over and over, and after a certain point I suddenly realized I had gone into autopilot. Which has NEVER been the case for me, I’ve always overthought it. I then proceeded to do about ten perfect parks in a row. I never thought I would have a “breakthrough” with this because I’ve been practicing forever. Maybe I’ll finally get my license. My road test is in about a month.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled Your poppies are lovely!

Had the best afternoon/evening! Took a city friend on a tour of the local haunts and signed up at our tourist hub, “Marcos Cafe” for open mic night next Weds.
We had a great dinner at the cafe on the patio, grape vines dangling their almost ready table grapes, the sublime misters and enjoying the local talent with the tourists.

I am going to do a stand up comedy gig and am so excited, frantically scribbling notes and jokes and themes and content for my routine.
‘My goose “Marwyn” will be going along, and he will be a good part of the comedic relief.
The burning goose himself and head pimp for madam Colomas house of randy ganders.

OMG! I have so much material and consolidating is going to be hard for this female nemesis of George Carlin. We share the exact same personality type, along with Robin Williams and Goldie Hawn & Carol Burnett. You can only imagine the insanity. lol
I really think I can captivate my audience, but, even if I bomb, well…one more check on the bucket list! :-)

Break a leg Coloma & Marwyn!

AshLeigh's avatar

Well, it’s after midnight, therefore, I leave tomorrow.
Got all my packing done, and I have an eye doctors appointment later. :)

janbb's avatar

@Coloma I think other people are supposed to tell you to break a leg. LOL

blueiiznh's avatar

did I miss the birthday spankings?

I managed to get registered with a dentist that doesn’t charge the earth for a simple check up. The average cost in my area (for just a check up remember) seems to be between £30 and £70 that is without any treatment (which I need). Today, I finally managed to get registered with a surgery that charge £17.50 for the checkup and £48 for the checkup with the treatment! I am absolutely terrified of the dentist and haven’t been for a long time (because of my fear and the extortionate costs) but at least I will be able to get the treatment I need before the tooth gets infected.

gailcalled's avatar

@Leanne1986: I can’t speak for your new dentist, but here in my area of the US (NE) the new dentistry is pain-free. There may be some discomfort but that is mainly from having to keep your mouth open for a long time.

I just had a crown put on one of my large back teeth. My jaw ached for several hours afterwards because of the awkward angle at which I held my head.

Remind yourself to continue to breathe in and out, preferably from the diaphragm. Consider bringing music to listen to also.

blueberry_kid's avatar

My air conditioning just went out. Its so hot!

GracieT's avatar

Everyone, here’s the more I talked about before…
When I was a Sophmore in college my best friend, another friend and I had tickets to see Phantom on Broadway. We were going to leave NorthWestern Ohio on Thursday afternoon and come back on Sunday night. It seems like the gods had other ideas. When we left we were talking, eating junk food, just being college students. We left after it was starting to get dark, around 5:30. We were on a two lane road and hit a patch of black ice. The car spun around and around, hit a tree and stopped. We even were treated to Planter’s cheeseballs flying around the car. No one was hurt except the car- totaled. We called my aunt to come get us, and spent the night with her. The next morning we tried to find another way, ANY other way, to get there. But because it was winter a blizzard had hit NYC. No planes, no trains, no buses, nothing was able to get into the city. We were crushed. Now, though, it’s just fun to remember the trip that wasn’t.

Had a great time on my walking group walk down at the boardwalk on this hot, hot night. Afterward, went in to the ocean up to my waist – in my clothes! then a hot fudge sundae capped off the night! Great night!

AshLeigh's avatar

Just ordered my first pair of glasses, ever. No more being blind for me!

Superb cool, breezy morning on my little mountain after last weekends hellish 103 degrees. Aaaah, bliss out, a return to the 70’s the next 4 days. I actually pulled up the big covers last night. Crazy California weather. Always shifting around.

AshLeigh's avatar

Leaving in a little over two hours!
I don’t think I have woken up this early all summer. >.<
Farewell, Jellies, and I shall see you upon my return. :)

Coloma's avatar

@AshLeigh Where are you going? I remember something about visiting an old friend?
Have a grand adventure!

blueberry_kid's avatar

My monthly gift came today, along with crampy and moody. Isn’t that great?!!!!

AshLeigh's avatar

@Coloma, I’m going off into the realm of sibling rivalry, and church. Summer Youth Retreat with my church.
Thanks. :)

I bought an old fashioned push mower to comp. my gardening expenses and to go a little greener yesterday. It works like a CHARM! Easy push, cool little fluttering sound and bonus, more exercise for me! Funny, my gardener is named “Scott” and it’s a ” Scotts” mower! lol
Coloma will be roving her giant yard on the hill this morning playing with her new toy! :-)

A tv commercial for a Zodiac pool sweeper that features a tree leaf with areas torn out to make it look like an unhappy face- looks like a horror movie I once saw of faces that were torn off and pressed flat. Also looked like the torn off faces tied to balloons in an animated llama cartoon from youtube.

blueberry_kid's avatar

Watching Aziz Ansari’s RAAAAAAAANDY bit. Not as funny as I thought.

BUT! I’m all set for CHICAGO!

Mariah's avatar

Before I was born, my dad had these stories that he made up and told to my older sister about a little girl and all sorts of adventures/trouble she’d get into. They were adorable and my sister loved them. A while back we had him write them down so that they’d never get lost to time.

For this father’s day my sister and her fiance came up with the idea to get them printed nicely in a little book through shutterfly, along with some family photos. She asked me if I’d come up with a few illustrations to go with the stories, and I gladly obliged. It arrived a little late due to an error on shutterfly’s end, but we gave it to him today and he was so tickled. I think he cried a little bit. It was very sweet.

Also, the medication I was put on a while back to attempt to heal up my fistula takes a long time to reach full potency, so I wasn’t seeing any improvement for a long time, but now I’ve been on it for probably 6 weeks or so and I think things are starting to heal up a bit. I hope so.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I faced (not conquered yet though) my fear of the dentist today. I burst into tears when I got in there but survived! I’ll be a nervous wreck again before my next appointment but at least I did it!!

I have to go back next week for two fillings (one of which I am very nervous about) and she wants to take a wisdom tooth out but it isn’t a priority at the moment as it is causing me zero pain. She did say that my teeth were nice and clean and that I was obviously good at brushing!!

Coloma's avatar

Yay @Leanne1986 Never fear, just go for the sedatives. My daughter hates the dentist too. They had to give her 3 doses of sedatives to get her to fall asleep when she had her wisdom teeth out last year. The dentist was laughing, said he had never seen anyone so resistant, mentally, to going under. lol I was joking about using a traquilizer gun for elephants. lolol

Great morning up here in my hills and I am wiped out from using my new push mower to mow my entire yard, about a ⅓ of an acre. Still have a little patch at the bottom of the hill, but man, whatta workout! I am confident I burned off the pasta salad and bag of M&M Peanuts yesterday, no doubt. Also mixed up about 30 gallons of fertilizer and fed all the plants last night. Damn, I need a Happy Brownie and a soak in the hot tub tonight. lol

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I took my daughters to see the Pixar movie, Brave. It was great and they want to see it again!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Uh-oh! My last post above was for a completely different thread, sorry for the gross out folks

In a much happier vein, we supped with my in-laws last night and I had fondue for the time. Yum!

blueiiznh's avatar

I called in well and enjoyed a day of doing nothing at work and everything with my daughter. (spa day)

AshLeigh's avatar

Well, I am back. I don’t think it’s great, but my mom does, so that’s cool. :)

augustlan's avatar

@AshLeigh Did you have a good trip? Welcome home!

AshLeigh's avatar

@augustlan, thanks!
Yes, I had a great time, and I met some great new people.
Had good church, and got to see my best friend, after not seeing him for six months. I miss him already, though!
I wanna go back. :)

augustlan's avatar

Today is @Fly’s 18th birthday!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

OMG 18 already? I simultaneously offer you congratulations and my sympathies. :D

janbb's avatar

Happy Birthday Ms. Fly!!

MissAnthrope's avatar

I’m going through a rough emotional patch and not finding a lot ‘great’ in my life at the mo, but I definitely want to take a moment to celebrate the fact that I finally made a doctor’s appointment to have my foot looked at. I have been suffering for the past 2–3 months because I am a terrible procrastinator… I thought the process of switching doctors (due to my move) would be a pain, but it was so easy! Also because I’m a bit scared it’s a serious problem or they are going to tell me to stay off my feet for X months, which as a server, is a huge issue..

But in any case, I stopped putting it off and booked an appointment. I will also hopefully get set up with therapy and maybe some anti-crazy meds. Yay!

Mariah's avatar

Happy birthday, @Fly!

I decided since I have a lot of free time on my hands to get my Etsy jewelry shop going again. All my listings had expired while I was at school, so today I put four items up and I plan to keep trickling them on over the summer. Jewelry making is is such a fun hobby, I never get bored of it!

MissAnthrope's avatar

P.S. I didn’t mean to imply that those who take meds are crazy…far from it! I only meant that they would make me not crazy.

blueberry_kid's avatar

I saw my baby cousin today! It makes me recap on why I don’t like babies.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@MissAnthrope I love my anti-crazy meds! :D

augustlan's avatar

Had a great birthday dinner out with the girls, then went back to their house for cupcakes. And even though it was @Fly’s birthday, I got a present, too. My ex-mother-in-law was there, and she gave me a glass jellyfish paperweight! How sweet is that?

Bellatrix's avatar

Happy Birthday @Fly! Awww lucky you Auggie! That’s lovely.

My good news… I was unbanned. @augustlan let me come back – I lied and told her my project was all finished.

janbb's avatar

I have the sweetest guy friend. He really is just a friend, but he is such a nice part of my new life.

Coloma's avatar

Yay! My cat is not dead! lol
I went to bed last night early and couldn’t find him on Coyote mountain over here sooo, left the garage door open all night, a rarity for she who is queen of rounding up the cats before bed.
No Myles all night, and he was 2 hours late for breakfast.

Oh oh, not good. :-(

But…..the bad man just came in wanting breakfast, he lives to eat another can of cat food and is not a regurgitated meal for the Coyote pups in my canyon. Yay Myles is ALIVE! haha

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Yay for the return of Myles!!!

Coloma's avatar

Myles is now sleeping off his wild night of catting around the tundra. lol

I have a couple of orchids in my room for decoration (3 right now). The last rotation all wilted suddenly within a few days of each other, and I thought maybe they were goners. I’ve been keeping them out on the porch and watering every once in a while. I just took a look, and two of them have really healthy-looking buds on them, so I think they’re going to make it after all!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@nikipedia Ooh, don’t you love it when that happens?

I had a peaceful day because only two neighborhood kids invaded my yard, instead of the usual 10.

janbb's avatar

I led tonight’s walking group walk since the organizer had another commitment. 33 people came, everyone had a great time and it was a real high to pull it off.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

A dozen roses greeted me on the dining room table, the kind that actually have a strong scent so our house smells soooo good.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I started a dog training class especially for kids today. It was so great seeing these children working their dogs and taking some responsibility for their dogs well being!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I only broke one toe instead of my whole foot. :D

Coloma's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Smacking snakes with shovels again are you?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Nope. Dropped a ziplock of frozen chicken, lmfao.

Coloma's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Awwww….LOL. Well you know, most accidents happen in the home. Don’t forget to unplug the blow dryer so it doesn’t fall in the bath tub with you. haha

janbb's avatar

An exhibit of some of my watercolors has been mounted at a local library. Visited with some friends today and the librarian took some photos for her archives. I’ve shared a few on FB.

gailcalled's avatar

^^^Lovely. How about sharing a few with us? I’d really enjoy seeing them.

Bellatrix's avatar

Me too @Janbb. I would love to see your work. How fabulous to have your work exhibited. Well done indeed.

MissAnthrope's avatar

I had lavish praise heaped on me regarding my cappuccino-making skills AND, in a separate incident, a cute girl I kinda like kissed me on the cheek.

MissAnthrope's avatar

Aaaaaaaaaand…. My roommate just left on a trip and I have the apartment to myself for 10 days! Wooooo, hangin’ out in my underwear time!

Got my cowgirl boots. Bought a new shirt, to go with them.
Now… To find a cowgirl hat…

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Well then you jist come on down to Texas, gal. You and me gonna rope us some steers!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Our house got it’s monthly deep clean so for a few hours, I can walk around barefoot and marvel at how nice everything looks uncovered from dust. It’s a short fix, in two days it’ll look like no one ever dusted or swept the floors.

Coloma's avatar

A beautiful Saturday morning and I am spending my bonus cash from the unexpected check on making a decadent dinner for my daughter and her boyfriend tonight. To market, to market to buy a fat bag of goodies! Coloma is a happy girl, a happy brownie afternoon cooking a delicious dinner for the kiddos, and just in-joying!
Simple pleasures at their finest!:-D

gailcalled's avatar

^^Menu, please. Due to the heat, I have become an instant fan of cold soup; gazpacho, vichysoisse or potato and cuke sand chives and fresh dill with liquid.

AshLeigh's avatar

Found it!
Yayayay! I’m a cowgirl, I’m a cowgirl!

Coloma's avatar

2:23 am on the west coast and have had an eventful evening. Just before dinner Myles my cat was bitten by a Rattlesnake and so we rushed off to the emergency vet 35 miles away. I noticed he was vomiting and had an enormously swollen front paw, leg and was dripping blood from the side of his paw. I knew it was a snakebite.
Long story short Myles is home resting after 3 hours at the vets, getting all sorts of treatments and is on hardcore kitty opium for the next five days.

Watching for potential kidney issues and dead tissues at the bite site.
The vet said he took a good hit of venom and that 25% of all bites are dry bites.
The good news is that cats seem to fair better than dogs, they also can have very bad reactions to the anti-venom, sooo, it’s a wait and watch situation for the next few days.
Myles rests comfortably with his giant paw in kitty smack dreamland.

I could use some of that myself. lol

Great going Myles. :-/

Bellatrix's avatar

Aww sending Myles big strokes and hugs. I hope he is okay @Coloma. Time for a glass of wine for his non-furry mum I think.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I finally have a few hours to sit and relax after a very busy week where I have had zero time to myself (I have another week like that ahead of me so I need this quiet time!)

janbb's avatar

Went to a jazz and blues fest during the day with my friend and then to see Sha Na Na in the evening with some work friends. A great music day!

harple's avatar

Had a great night last night at a local open mic with my ukulele, it was such a giggle!

gailcalled's avatar

I figured out, with the help of the internet and my daughter’s b/f 34 hundred miles away, how to turn off the water and empty the tank of my leaking toilet so I can wait until tomorrow for the plumber. And this was before the ceiling below actually caved in.

Coloma's avatar

Myles is the same this morning. Still extremely swollen paw/leg and I am doing massage and hot compresses per the vets advice. He ate breakfast, used his litter box and is just now drifting into kitty heroin land again. My poor Myles, you should see how huge his leg is from the swelling. But, all good signs so far, still won’t be out of the woods for another 24–36 hours as the venom can continue to circulate for up to two days with varying potential complications, but…great progress so far. :-)

gailcalled's avatar

What a tale, @Coloma. Is Myles feeling well enough to watch a fashion show starring Marwyn?

I am still laughing at the sight of him in his life jacket. Talk about bringing coals to Newcastle.

Milo and I will be sending good healing thoughts to Myles. How lucky he is to have been able to limp home and know that you would do everything necessary to heal him.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Awww, poor Myles! My prayers and healing energy go out to him! Get well soon, poor kitty. It’s a shame I wasn’t there to bludgeon that mean ol’ snake. :D

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled
@WillWorkForChocolate Thank You guys! We have been having a bit of the battle of the wills here the last hour, with Myles wanting to go out.
NO!
You must rest!

Now the full effects of the kitty opium are kicking in and he is just sitting here by me staring at the ceiling. Going, going, gone…..! Well, if nothing else some humor abounds, calling him “Bigfoot” and last night my daughter was researching Myles controlled substance and apprently it is called, in Australia, ” poor mans smack.” Sooo, we were calling it the ” poor cats smack” and ” Oxy-cat-on.” haha

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Haha! Oxycaton. My belly hurts from laughing!

Coloma's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Gotta keep a sense of humor. Myles is still staring ointo space right now, hasn’t moved for 15 minutes. Stoned kitty he is. lol

Well….some happy news just came in!
Marwyn, my goose just won 1st prize for ” Most Photogenic” in a waterfowl rescue group photo contest. The ” Duck Duck Goose” blue ribbon photo contest has a winner! Marwyn will receive a ribbon, a plaque and a trophy! Lord, my wacky life of animals!

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: That made me forget about my plumbing problems. Make sure to send us pix of Marwyn in his costume and surrounded with his boodle.

“Canard, canard, oie.”

AshLeigh's avatar

So, we did our skit at church today, and Kristen made us do it on the platform, even though there is NO ROOM on the platform.
Good news: No one died.
I did hit my head, and Sabrina dislocated her knee, but we did not fall off the platform, or die. :)

OpryLeigh's avatar

I logged on to Fluther and saw that I have finally reached 20000 lurve :)

picante's avatar

^^^^^ Woot! See you at the party!

OpryLeigh's avatar

I had a 20,000k party when I logged on. It bought a smile to my face :)

gailcalled's avatar

My plumber came on time, as promised, and repaired the leaky toilet. Plus, as part of his service, he removed the rotten and moldy dry wall, wood and pipes in the damaged ceiling in the floor below the toilet.

He will come back in several weeks when things have dried, retype, replace dry wall and poly pipes and put one coat of paint on. Nice extra service I hadn’t expected.

Plus, he swept up all the mess and then damp-mopped all the streaky floors.

gailcalled's avatar

As a bonus, I spent some time with my adorable, 6-year-old autistic nephew, Julian. He and I wandered around and around my sister’s pond. He spotted and counted bullfrogs sunning at the water’s edge. By the time he found 78, I had to be led into the shade and given cold beverages. But it was fun.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled Ugh….house stuff, ugh!

Myles is doing GREAT this morning 60 hours post rattlesnake attack. His paw/leg is slowly deflating and is probably half the size it was with the reduction in swelling. He is showing no signs of organ damage, eating, drinking and wanting to go out….back to where the wild things are. Lets hope he learned his lesson and steers clear of snakes in the grass. :-/

On another “high” note I have cleverly strategized administering his pain medication and have discovered that when he is completely stoned on the drugs he is content to just lie on the deck and survey his domain from under the shroud of opiate induced bliss.
He gets to go out but is too high to go anywhere. lol
Mothers little helper. haha

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: Maybe that’s the answer for how to cut Milo’s nails? Did you use a drug that I can find on the street, perhaps? Or would a roll in the catnip work? Or would that leave him overstimulated.

Such heartening news about Myles. Great karma for you, also, in spite of the expense and energy.

Coloma's avatar

The drug is called ” Buprenor” and it’s very effective, Milo would be uncaring of nail clipping as he would just be watching all the pretty imaginary birdies on the wall. haha

AshLeigh's avatar

Saw the midnight premier of the new Spiderman… :D I swear, Spiderman kicked me in the face repeatedly.
Best movie ever.

Also, I saw a guy dressed in a Spiderman costume. I almost stripped it off of him, and took it. :D

janbb's avatar

I was stressing out over a decision I had made and my good friends supported me.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Good to hear, @janbb. It’s always a nice feeling when you have support, no matter how things turn out!

In a couple of weeks I have my road test, and hopefully the embarrassment of being a 20 year old non-driver will finally be coming to a close. A few hours later, I fly (by myself for the first time) to visit my boyfriend. I fly back a few days later, and turn around the next day to go with one of my good friends to visit our mutual friend who’s working at her college this summer, a few states away. I come home a few days later, and the next day we move from the house I’ve lived in my entire life to our new home in an adjacent state. Gah! I’ve never had so much going on at once. It’s frightening but mostly exciting.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I’m looking forward to visiting my Grandmother this evening. I haven’t seen her since Christmas!

janbb's avatar

Going to a beach festival followed by fireworks with my best guy friend today. We’ll probably meet up with other folk there.

nikipedia's avatar

@Mariah, boyfriend huh? Is this a recent development?

MissAnthrope's avatar

Grilling and drinking and fireworks will happen today! Woo! Got a batch of birthday lemon bars all finished and dusted with powdered sugar… my first try ever, don’t think I did too bad, even though I somehow managed to turn the oven off (!) sometime around putting them in. Yeah, I dunno. :P

Mariah's avatar

@nikipedia Kinda! We got together in March and have been doing things long-distance ever since school ended in May. :)

blueiiznh's avatar

Friends, grillings, pool, laughter, sangria!

Bellatrix's avatar

It was yesterday for me but Queensland won the rugby league, State of Origin title for the seventh time in a row.

augustlan's avatar

I’m training a new mod, and I think he’s going to do a great job!

Coloma's avatar

4 days out from the rattlesnake bite and Myles is doing great! I just told him that he cost me a tank of propane so he better snuggle up close this winter since he burned about 500 gallons of my green fuel this week. lol
Happy 4th everyone! :-)

Bellatrix's avatar

Go Myles! So glad he is fine.

Bellatrix's avatar

My children bought my garden a present. A frog that says “Shhh the weeds are sleeping”. It is a friend for the topless, thong wearing gnome they bought me when I was away on holiday. They don’t tell me. I just happen across these new residents in my garden.

blueiiznh's avatar

@Bellatrix how cute. Glad they did not leave you with one of these naughty gnomes

Bellatrix's avatar

Oh I feel sure he or someone similar will be moseying along soon :-) It does make me smile when I find each new visitor. Other things are two of the three wise monkeys – one had gone on holiday apparently and didn’t return. Or the spike that says “I tried but it died”, stuck in the planter that contained a dormant not dead plant.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

My darling mother came over to soothe my hurts, even though I couldn’t detail why I’m hurting. She knows I was sworn to secrecy about the situation, and isn’t a member of Fluther to see my question regarding it last night. She’s just so wonderful to do that, and even scratched my back while I rested my head in her lap like I did as a child. She made my day!

AshLeigh's avatar

Almost done writing a new song!

gailcalled's avatar

My unpleasant neighbors of 26 years have moved to NH. and the new, young couple has arrived, with their baby, their toddler, and two little dogs and agreeable and cooperative natures.

It turns out the wife grew up above me on the road, and did some weeding and house-sitting here when she was a young teen-ager. So we are old and compatible friends.

Happy, happy, happy.

blueiiznh's avatar

@gailcalled thanks for the warning in sending them my way. curses mildly

Coloma's avatar

Great morning over here, my morning glories are blooming profusely in shades of deep purple, rose and white with purple dots. Myles is back to himself, seems to be fine and looks like we’re out of the woods except for the chance an infection could still set in around the bite site.
My education on Rattlesnakes continues. Did you know that anti-venom is made from the blood of horses and sheep that have been rendered immune by bites and for human treatment it is 2k per vial often needing 10 vials or more to treat a severe bite to a person!!!

I guess $600—$850 a vial is a bargain for cats & dogs. 0-o

Received confirmation of Marwyns winning spoils being shipped today after winning 1st place in a photo contest for a waterfowl rescue I sponsor.
Take a gander at the most photogenic goose and all the other amazing little darlings. :-D

chyna's avatar

@Coloma Beautiful!

gailcalled's avatar

@Coloma: Make sure to take a picture of Marwyn in his bathing costume enjoying his boodle. Any cash?

Coloma's avatar

@Chyna…..aren’t they all adorable!
@gailcalled Yes, the director of the sanctuary wants a pic. of Marwyn and his prizes for next years contest nostalgia. No cash, the entry fees are donations, met the 500 lb. grain bill for the year with this years entries. Marwyn will receive a beautiful ribbon, plaque and trophy. :-)

He just came out of the cold hot tub after a lovely long swim. The best treat he can imagine, fun in the “big, big, tubby.” lol

OpryLeigh's avatar

I helped to run a fun day for dogs and their humans today. It rained heavily most of the time (British summer time!!) but, despite the weather, we had a good turn out and the dogs enjoyed a fun dog show and agility sessions. Now for a warm shower before I go and help a dear friend celebrate her birthday!

harple's avatar

Got the harp part for Phantom through the post today! One of the schools nearby are doing it in November :-) Can’t wait!

chyna's avatar

I just installed two new deadbolts on my doors by myself!

Coloma's avatar

@chyna Way to go! I am woefully inept with most home repairs. My joke, if I can’t fix it with tape or super glue I have to call someone. lol

chyna's avatar

@Coloma I need all new electrical outlets. I’m thinking I could do that myself too.

Coloma's avatar

@chyna Awesome! I bought a new lawn mower a few weeks ago and I managed to put the handle on, woo hoo….but I had to call my neighbor to adjust the blades. haha

Bellatrix's avatar

Unless you have a good knowledge of how to work with electricity @chyna – let the electrician update your electical outlets. The cost could be way too high if you get that wrong.

blueberry_kid's avatar

Just got back home from Chicago!!!

picante's avatar

I gazed upon my newborn granddaughter as she lay in her mother’s arms. Surely, she is an angel who has entered our realm. Then it was my turn to hold her, to coo to her, to dream with her. She is perfect.

Coloma's avatar

@picante Awwwww…congrats Nana, Gramma, Grand mama, Nanny! :-)

The only great thing that has happened to me today is the icey cold shower I took and now going out to cold hot tub soon. Lord, it is an inferno out west, 103 today….gah! I need an IV of ice water. Cooling trend coming soon.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I just grilled steaks for the first time ever, and they turned out pretty good. Mine was perfect, as I love rare steak, but next time I’ll cook the others to medium rare. Whoops. That’s only the third time I’ve used a grill in my life, haha. The only other times were attempts to grill hamburgers. The first time I severely undercooked them and made my husband fix it, the second time, I charred them!! I’ve avoided the grill ever since…

Coloma's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Yeah, I’ve always been terrible with the bbq myself, call me sexist, but I do think grilling is a mans job, it’s in their DNA from waay back when they roasted the Mastodon steaks. lol

nikipedia's avatar

@Coloma and @WillWorkForChocolate, when we have people over and I’m not around, my gentleman companion grills a bunch of meat and vegetables and serves it on a platter for people to eat with their hands.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

The fact that I successfully grilled something and didn’t blow the house up or singe my eyebrows makes me feel very accomplished and “manly”. I’m belching and scratching my imaginary balls. Now I need to find me a cavewoman to club and drag off. I felt the same way when I purchased, lugged home, and installed a new dryer.

harple's avatar

Congratulations @picante !! That must be a truly wonderful feeling :-)

augustlan's avatar

I’m getting ready to go pick up my girls for a week-long visit. Yay!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Yay, Auggie! Have a great time!

Bellatrix's avatar

I am going to the drive-in my with husband and my girls are going together too. We planned to go quite separately and found out we were both going to be there at the same time the other day. I haven’t been to the drive-in for more than a decade! Just seemed like a fun thing to do together. Pity we don’t have a station wagon or a panel van.

chyna's avatar

@Bellatrix That sounds like such fun! We don’t have drive ins around here anymore and I miss going to them. My parents would stick us in the station wagon with a huge bag of popcorn my mom had made, already in our pj’s and it was a blast.

Bellatrix's avatar

I know. I find it quite bizarre that I am so excited about going to the drive-in. We only have one now. There used to be three or four. We didn’t have them in the UK. Probably because it can take so long to go dark there. When we came here we often went to the drive-in and like your family, packed the kids in the back, took some food and treats and usually after the first film the kids would have fallen asleep. No idea why I am so excited about this outing. Regression?

Coloma's avatar

Yay! Only 93 today after yesterdays hellish temps. that hit 105–6!
Dropping back into the low 90’s and then 80’s again next week. OMG! I felt sick all day yesterday, I do not handle extreme heat well at all.

A lovely breezy evening unfolding and tomorrow I am going to a music event with a friend whose boyfriend plays in one of the bands.
It’s a catered event and we are all invited. Perks for the friends and families of the musicians. The event crashers! lol

blueiiznh's avatar

@Coloma just invited us all to a lovely catered musical event.

gailcalled's avatar

I woke up to see that it finally rained hard last night so I don’t have to stand outside with a hose for thirty minutes and run my well down.

AshLeigh's avatar

Going to be with Audo and Bethy while they get married!
Might see my best friend, after. :)
Watching Pretty Little Liars.

blueberry_kid's avatar

I’m officially a great volleyball player. :) GO MUSKIES.

Bellatrix's avatar

The drive-in was fun and today is Sunday. Always a good day.

Coloma's avatar

Had a great tome yesterday at an outdoor music gig a friends band was playing at.
Amazing elevated circular deck with a giant oak tree in the middle. Perfect weather and catered food and wine bar.
Had a blast, danced and danced and had bought this really cool multi-colored long scarf/sarong type piece that has 101 possible combos.

It doubled as a colorful turban which my friends teenage nephew adeptly fashioned after wearing it as a belt most of the day. I was calling him ” Turban boy” and his job was to keep my turban fashionably in place. lol
It also was great as a twirling prop during dancing. Amazing how much fun one can have with a streaming scarf. haha
A great day!

blueiiznh's avatar

Spent a relaxing morning at the beach, then strolled in Rockport MA.

janbb's avatar

Coloma's avatar

Outstanding day up here in my hills, glorious 70 degrees, breezy, the curtains are fluttering in the wind.
I actually pulled up the big covers last night for the first time in weeks. Heat wave be gone! Yay! :-)
My house is immaculate, stocked with groceries, yards need no watering in this cool snap and soooo, Coloma breaks into the happy brownies for a bliss out afternoon in my little garden of eden.

Think a photo shoot expedition will be on the menu for late this afternoon.
My new psychedelic neon red camera shall not become lost in my happy brownie wanderings in the woods. lol
My favorite kinda day hands down! ;-D

AshLeigh's avatar

Almost 2 PM.
Just woke up.
Off to make French Toast, and then watch one million episodes of NCIS. :D

harple's avatar

Just caught up with a dear friend who’s getting married in 10 days time… Phonecalls like that won’t happen after that, so am all emotional. But it was lovely. I must think of it not as losing a friend, but as gaining a friend-in-law. (Will feel better when I’ve actually met her I’m sure!)

blueberry_kid's avatar

I bought tea!

AshLeigh's avatar

Talked to my best friend. :) Miss him.

Bellatrix's avatar

Well I fucked up the locker box system at the library and that was sort of embarrassing and funny at the same time. Then I went back to the hotel and drank waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much free wine and now I am here flunking.. or is that drunking? I don’t know. Either way it makes me laugh!

Coloma's avatar

@Bellatrix Haha..I drank waay too much wine last Saturday. You know how easily those teensy weensy little party glasses go down. I only had about 12. lol

AshLeigh's avatar

Got my glasses in! I can see!
Hey guys… Did you know that my mom has individual strands of hair? I didn’t!

Coloma's avatar

@AshLeigh LOL…my daughter had Lasik done last April, she was amazed at all the details that she had been missing too.

Congrats, @chyna!

One of our jellies, @fluthernutter, had a baby boy Thursday morning!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I got to see the look on my sister-in-law’s face when I casually warned her that I think I’m pregnant.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@chyna It’s too early for a pee test to be accurate, but I feel “off” and just bleh. I feel like I am, but we’ll see.

No mentioning this on Facebook, LOL!

chyna's avatar

My lips are sealed. Fingers crossed for you!

OpryLeigh's avatar

harple's avatar

@Leanne1986 Isn’t it lovely?! :-)

Coloma's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate A little chocolate bar in the wrapper maybe? ;-)
@Leanne1986 and @harple Oooh, rub it in why don’t you…gearing up for another few days intense sun and heat out west. Who wants a house guest until the end of Sept.? lol
@chyna Congrats on the new job!

Aaaah….great morning unfolding over here.
ALL my chores are done, house is clean, yards and plants and animals all set up for the weekend heat wave over here.
I think I will just repose with a happy brownie afternoon in my cold hot tub. Nothing to do is always GREAT!

I am off to see Cirque de Soleil with two of my children and my husband. Can’t wait. It’s become a family tradition whenever there is a new show here. Plus before that I am going to a holiday/tourism exhibition to get holiday ideas AND from Thursday I am on leave from work for two weeks!

OpryLeigh's avatar

@harple it really is! I’m jealous of all the people having/going to bbqs today!!!

@Coloma this lovely weather is a treat for us! I’ll be not far from your neck of the woods in a couple of months so please keep hold of the lovely weather until I get there!!

AshLeigh's avatar

Went ice skating today, and didn’t fall! :D

tranquilsea's avatar

I helped my husband with his company golf tournament. Twelve hours later I have a headache and my feet are swollen but I played a pretty good game.

harple's avatar

Having a great week! Played a solo concert (okay, half a concert) on Tuesday evening, and I was in such a good place that it felt really natural and went beautifully (if I do say so myself). Then last night I watched Twelfth Night in a park, outdoors, and not only did it not rain, but it was also a fabulous production!

Coloma's avatar

@harple
Sounds wonderful congrats!

My neighbors are out of town until tomorrow evening and I am dog sitting for a Welsh Corgi, A Westie and a Golden Retriever, “Baily, Roxy and Murphy.” Man oh man, the herd of dogs cometh. haha

My neighbor left me the nicest gift, a gorgeous gypsy skirt with pink and orange and cool little jewels around the hem. I changed on their front porch before moving on with my day. lol
A great little unexpected present! :-)

geeky_mama's avatar

I have had a lucky streak(?) that has made the past two days very entertaining.

Yesterday I was in NYC for business when storms caused major cancellations all across the Midwest & East Coast. My flight home was the ONLY flight that wasn’t canceled – and although it was nearly 3 hours delayed I felt like I’d won the lottery when I actually made it home when literally thousands of others didn’t make it out of EWR/LGA/JFK.

I was in NYC to do presentations. They went well – and I shut down the laptop & headed to the airport. While delayed at the airport I tried booting up my laptop only to find it had major (motherboard) failure! The timing was amazing—all work was done, and it was early enough at my home office I could call back and request a replacement part be ordered. Less than 24 hours later my laptop is fixed with an all new motherboard/fan unit. (The tech fixed it at lunchtime today – just 12 hours after I landed.) The timing (AFTER the presentation was complete, when it didn’t impact me at all – coupled with the quick fix) was amazingly perfect!

Last but not least – while I was at the airport accompanying our exchange student (who was flying home to France as an unaccompanied minor – so I was waiting at the gate for him to board his Air France flight to Paris) a complete stranger approached me and asked me to please hold his camera and record him & his girlfriend.
I thought he meant he wanted to record their boarding their flight to Paris..but after I hit record, while they were standing in line to board, he knelt down, got out a ring box and asked her to marry him! She said: “Oui” and they both thanked me profusely for recording the big moment. I was very verklempt and happy for them!

gailcalled's avatar

@geeky_mama: Now that’s a Kodak moment. Are you going to keep in touch and perhaps be invited to the wedding? Will you send a gift?

AshLeigh's avatar

I didn’t get a sunburn today! :D

linguaphile's avatar

I had zero interest in a new relationship, was completely ready to head into the rest of my life happily alone. I had been separated for a year and half, was feeling great about life and my ability to take care of myself. I completely expected to be by myself and had no problem with that forecast.

Long story short—I literally bumped into this guy when we rounded corners in a hallway when I was visiting my college program. He emailed me to ask questions about my work, then with some hesitation and carefulness, we got to know each other over the past few months. This week, I finally crossed that line between whoa, wait and go.

I’m simply crazy about him and he feels the same. The best part? We’re both our own people—I can’t say how different and exciting this feels not to be expected to enmesh, but having someone want me to just be me.

geeky_mama's avatar

@gailcalled – I didn’t exchange any info with them – and she seemed to only speak French. Not sure if they’re from here or France—but if I see them again I’d be happy to give them a wedding gift. :)

AshLeigh's avatar

Band practice, then a road trip!
Packing right now!
Also, neon green suspenders. ‘nough said.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

I’ve just returned from a trip to visit my out of state siblings, one of them I hadn’t seen face to face in 16 years.

AshLeigh's avatar

Took a nap.

gailcalled's avatar

@linguaphile?: That news made my day. Am I being silly in imaging both of you in matching gorilla suits, doing the dance of joy?

janbb's avatar

@linguaphile Wow – terrific!

OpryLeigh's avatar

Yesterday I was offered a full time job working with dogs. This is something I have been working towards (some of you may know I have been working part time as a trainer) and I am chuffed that the opportunity to do this as a full time job has now come up. However, it would mean me leaving my current, mundane but safe, job with a guaranteed salary and pension etc to a less secure one. I will be working for a relatively new business that is still finding it’s feet. If it works, it will be amazing, I will have job satisfaction and will be better off financially if it doesn’t I will be without a job!

Anyway, long story short, today I decided F—- it! Life is too short and I will regret it if I turn this opportunity down just to remain safe!

gailcalled's avatar

^^Good for you. Woof!

gailcalled's avatar

@Leanne1986: I’d be concerned if you weren’t. I can still remember the stage fright I had on the first day of the job of each of my three careers, plus a few dinky ones.

Day one was terrifying in all cases; day two was fine.

chyna's avatar

@Leanne1986 Yay! You are following your dreams.

Bellatrix's avatar

@Leanne1986, listen to your gut feeling. While you could take the safe road and stick with your current job, you might look back in years to come and say “I wish I had…”. You are still young enough to try new things and see how they go. If it doesn’t work out, you have work experience and will find something else. Good luck in your new job!

gailcalled's avatar

Just got my yearly blood work back from Oncologist and PCP. All tumor markers are clean and I am the poster child for my age group with everything else.

The exercise program and veggie diet seem to be paying off. I am even able to cheat a little with ice cream. And even though I am no longer a willow rod, I can remain in what I call
“sturdy shape” apparently.

Coloma's avatar

A great day here. My daughter and I have been dying to get away for a day or two, sooo, booked a room at www.bodegaharborinn.com for next week. Yay! Road trip for me and the kiddos! 16 beaches within 2 miles and a double suite with seperate bedrooms, woodstove and kitchen with a killer view of the harbor. Beach here we come! :-)

Congrats to @linguaphile and @Leanne1986 Ya just never know what life is going to serve up when you’re least expecting it!

Oooh my darlings, I missed you so. lol

gailcalled's avatar

chyna's avatar

@gailcalled Tell Milo I have to endorse the whole thing over to my electric company.

gailcalled's avatar

@chyn: Can you tell yet whether you are going to enjoy this job and the community?

chyna's avatar

@gailcalled Yes, I like the people and I think I have caught onto the things I have to know already.

gailcalled's avatar

@chyna: Good news.

last night I saw a revival of “Kiss Me, Kate” at our local summer stock..a little theater in the round with charming young performers and an audience (including me) who remembered the words to all of the songs (music and lyrics by Cole Porter).

janbb's avatar

@chyna Good news indeed even if Milo isn’t happy!

Gettin’ ready for a trip to San Fran to see my younger son and some good old friends.

@janbb You wild party woman, have a blast! Do you think you could refresh this thread before you go galavanting off again? That would be great!

Creepy afternoon up here in my hills, T-storms backing up over the mountains and my zone is on a red flag warning for lightening strike induced fires. Tis the season, always sniffing the wind for the smell of smoke.
Not great, but….the lightening and T-storms should be spectacular tonight by all accounts.
Pulling up a deck chair for the show.

Mariah's avatar

My family is settling into our new house. We put a bunch of bird feeders out, sunflower seeds and thistle and suet, and the birds are discovering our yard. This morning I had the pleasure of sitting and watching chickadees, titmice, chipping sparrows, nuthatches, wrens, a lovely male cardinal and a female hairy woodpecker enjoying our bird seed.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

I’ve worked my days off this week and also double shifts for the weekend so I’m kind of pooped and nervous about undone dirty laundry and other house stuff. The great part is my wonderful husband called to say he’d finished shampooing our carpets, picked up dog poo from the yards washed my little dog. Hurrah for help!

Dutchess_III's avatar

It RAINED last night! It poured. My husband and I just sat on the covered deck and reveled in it. Today is a BEAUTIFUL day. I imagine it’ll go back in the 3 digits beginning tomorrow, but today is a dream day.

gailcalled's avatar

When I looked out my bedroom window this morning, I saw a flock of goldfinches pecking out the seeds from the wild sunflowers. The birds and the flowers were the same shade of yellow; the flowers were ones that I had poached from a roadside with no houses around.

The area where I had done the poaching is now overrun with said sunflowers; my excursion simply encouraged more to grow.

It has just rained here, although not enough to make a dent. It’s a chilly 78˚ at present.

Bellatrix's avatar

Finished the final leg on the Cape today for the PMC ride. 192 miles in two days and an amazing experience for such a good cause. 100% of the donations go to Cancer Research The goal this year is $36 Million.

The people sitting along the route applauding from start to finish and thanking the riders is certainly inspiring. My mantra through the riding pain was that it is pale compared to what a cancer patient goes through.

chyna's avatar

@blueiiznh You are an inspiration for all. Thank you for donating your time for such a good cause.

gailcalled's avatar

@blueiznhI am a cancer survivor, and I wager that your having ridden192 miles in two days was more uncomfortable than my treatment. The scary part for me was worrying about the outcome.

The treatment these days is amazing; there is always need for more research, of course.

Thank you.

nikipedia's avatar

@blueiiznh, can you give us a link to donate to?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I (and my aching back and knees) was able to walk for 40 minutes on the treadmill today, having started at 5 several months ago. When I can do 45, I will work on increasing the speed.

I picked my first large heirloom tomato from the pot on my deck; it was delicious sliced (with a little salt) and a few snips of fresh basil, companionably growing in the same pot.

janbb's avatar

Yes – meant to do that pre-trip but it will probably have to be post-trip unless I can commandeer a desktop at some point. Soon, soon….

And dang about the edit; thought I’d caught you. Eats, shoots, and leaves.

chyna's avatar

Today is my 4 year anniversary with Fluther! Woo Hoo!

geeky_mama's avatar

Wow @Chyna- Congrats on 4 years! Hope the new job continues to go great!

harple's avatar

My boyfriend and I have been together 11 months now (yes I know, I kept that quiet), and are about to embark on an exciting new adventure together. Feeling very happy! :¬D

Bellatrix's avatar

Well I hope you will fill us in on the ‘exciting new adventure’ in the future @harple :-)

I finally went to a glass bead making class today with my daughter. I don’t think I will be giving up my day job to make glass beads. It was different though and we had fun. Now we need to go through the Christmas present list and see who has offended us enough to be worthy of a bracelet made with some of our glass rocks… sorry I mean beads.

Mariah's avatar

@Bellatrix Ooh, jealous! An easier craft in the same vein is firing glass pendants in a kiln, check it out if you’re still interested at all.

Bellatrix's avatar

I thought about you as I was posting that earlier comment. I wondered if you did any lampwork. Glass is an interesting medium to work in hey? I think I would need a lot (LOT) more practice to make even ‘okay’ beads. Gives me a whole new respect for artists who work with glass. Hope your jewellery business is going well.

Mariah's avatar

I’ve never gotten to try lampwork, no! It’s on the bucket list though. Thanks.

Had a great time at Bodega Bay with the kiddos. Oh my, such lovely cool ocean breezes, spectacular weather, mid-60’s to 70ish and our cottage overlooking the harbor was adorable with lush gardens everywhere. Beach combing and walking and the best fish dinner.
Rolled back into the interior heatwave around 11:30 last night and then stayed up til 2am watering and playing outside with the cats.

Today is going to be pushing 103…..hiding in the AC until after dark when I will then emerge like a nocturnal amphibian and go float in my icey cold hot tub. lol

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I got a notice in the mail today that our credit clean-up guy got three negative things removed from my hubby’s credit report. Aaaaaaand, we are that much closer to being able to get a home loan, WOOT!

janbb's avatar

Had a lovely Indian dinner with my son in SF.

Bellatrix's avatar

My Ollie Schnauzer dog is now fine and is on his way home for the vets. He had an overnight stay but seems to have survived his tick problem with no adverse effects. Not sure about the vet’s nurse though. While we were talking on the phone I could hear him voicing his dismay at being in a crate at the vets. He is a determined dustbin and I suspect they will be glad of the peace and quiet when he leaves the building.

Coloma's avatar

@Bellatrix Yay Ollie!

OMG, ‘tis the night of the great rattlesnake massacre over here!
My neighbor just killed two large rattlesnakes for me, both within a half hour of each other!
First one, a big guy, was coiled under my deck and I heard it rattle when my cat walked by. It was a about 2.5 feet long and very hefty with 10 rattles!

Right under the bottom step of my deck! Nice! haha

Not 5 minutes after my neighbor left another one was rattling just below my deck in the creek bed which has a little water in it. It was slightly smaller but not by much.
Myles was nearby and he ran, guess he learned his lesson last month. Man…it is night of the rattlesnakes over here, I am walking very softly and carrying a big stick, literally.
No snake bites tonight anyway! :/

chyna's avatar

Well it was actually over the weekend, but I went roller skating for the first time in many, many years. I’m still good!

gailcalled's avatar

Having decided that the check that I misplaced was truly lost, I sent an email to the lawyer who issued it to ask for a new one. My letter was filled with apologies and explanations. You would have thought I was on trial at The Hague.

I just got her response; “Will do.”

I sit here thanking whatever deity is today’s choice that I do not live at Coloma’ home, no matter how enticing and appealing it is.

AshLeigh's avatar

Signed my Advanced Path papers today. :(
Not excited about taking that, but I have no choice, and I’ll get credits faster through this program. So this is good.
Annnnnd… School starts in two days! :D

Coloma's avatar

This morning dawns free of serpents, for now.
Beware dusk when the vipers come out to cavort near the hot tub. Might be the last soak, better make sure I keep that decanter of wine nearby so I can drink myself into oblivion before the venom kills me. lol

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I participated in a search for a missing girl (who happens to be a dear friend of ours) and she was finally found, perfectly safe. All I could think of until we found her was “she got nabbed by a pervert, she got nabbed by a pervert!” but thank God she had the good sense to stay hidden until she decided to go to a friend’s house. She’s staying with me now, for a few days, to have some space from her parents.

Mariah's avatar

Hopefully I am not jumping the gun right now, but I have a LOT of hope for the first time in months regarding my current health situation.

My family has just moved to another state, and so yesterday I had an appointment with a GI in the area who will be covering me from now on when I’m home from college. I liked him a lot, he spent a lot of time with me going over my history and just had a nice, comforting demeanor overall.

I’ve been on medication all summer long trying to heal up a fistula, and it has done basically nothing for me. I’ve been feeling pretty low lately because I have been led to believe my only other options are heavy duty (scary) medication or surgery to get a permanent ostomy.

The new GI yesterday presented another option. Something so simple, too. Antibiotics. Try it for two weeks and if there’s any improvement at all, stay on a low maintenance dose for a while.

And I remembered, when I first became symptomatic I went to my OBGYN and it was misdiagnosed as a Bartholin’s cyst. And I was put on antibiotics, which they ended up having me stop prematurely because of some side effects. But in the few days that I was on them, I had great improvements in my symptoms.

Took my first antibiotics yesterday evening and got the best sleep I’ve had in ages last night. Fingers crossed, I really think this might help me.

Bellatrix's avatar

Toes, fingers and anything else crossable is crossed for you @Mariah.

AshLeigh's avatar

Sending good vibes your way, @Mariah.

Eight months with Josh, as of today. :)
Annnd. Going back to school tomorrow! Yay!

augustlan's avatar

My oldest daughter came up to my house, without her sisters, for one last ‘sleep over’ before she heads off to college on Tuesday. We ate pizza, watched The Help, and had a lovely (if a bit melancholy) evening together.

Bellatrix's avatar

A new phase of her life starting. It will be fabulous for her but a little like watching your first chick leave the nest and take a major solo flight.

janbb's avatar

@augustlan Yes – a bit melancholy but how lovely and exciting!

blueiiznh's avatar

I survived 3 staff meetings, two of my staff and one of my Sr Directors.
Everyone lived.

janbb's avatar

Home again after a great trip to the Left Coast. Wonderful visit with my younger son and I bought myself a hip, new outfit.

AshLeigh's avatar

Hopefully my last year of High School starts today. :)

gailcalled's avatar

My plumber came when he said he would and fixed what he said he could.

Coloma's avatar

Rattlesnake free for the last 48 hours again now.
Whew!
Now I have added to my nightly routine a snake flush with my powerful garden hose. I blast under my deck, all around the edge of the small cliff that my patio sits on, and have a 6 foot bamboo stick by my garden gate to tap my way to the barn after dark to lock up the geese.

My audio is fine tuned and I can hear that deadly rattle at a whisper out in the woods and my vision is honed to that of a hawk. A great test of finely honing the primitive instincts. lol
Fascinating rattlesnake facts:
Did you know that rattlesnakes developed their rattle when they evolved on the plains and were in danger of being trampled by vast herds of bison and other hooved mammals?

AshLeigh's avatar

GREAT first day back at school.
Like my schedule. Excited to be Heaths TA.
Excited that two of my friends came to my school, this year.
Cracked jokes about the school switching to Trimesters, instead of Semesters. XD (What is it, a pregnancy?)

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Hunger Games is finally out on DVD and I’m about to go get my copy!!!

blueiiznh's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Awesome. Saw it in Theatre and will be getting it for home. Thanks for the heads up

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Hahahaha, boy was I wrong. It doesn’t come out until tomorrow. I thought today was the 18th. Whoops!

augustlan's avatar

It’s the 18th now (on the east coast, anyway). Not only is The Hunger Games on its way to me, it’s my birthday! I am fortyfuckingfive years old.

Bellatrix's avatar

Happy Birthday Lisa! Hope you have a beautiful day.

chyna's avatar

Have a great birthday @augustlan!

OpryLeigh's avatar

I made some progress with a very anxious dog. He let me give him a tummy rub today!

Coloma's avatar

Happy Birthday! @augustlan

A great morning over here, cloudy with a few sprinkles and T-storms backing up over the Sierras today. It has been so bloody hot for 2 weeks, what a relief!

AshLeigh's avatar

Figured out that it is, indeed, my last year of high school. :)
Early Graduation, FTW.

geeky_mama's avatar

Happy Birthday @augustlan!! I hope it was wonderful. :)

augustlan's avatar

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

janbb's avatar

Oh Auggie! Happy, happy birthday wishes!

OpryLeigh's avatar

I had a burrito for the first time since September.

There were a lot of hot air balloons flying over the city today, hot air balloons always make me feel happy.

I had some wonderful quality time with my boyfriend and have felt very loved all day.

My best friend sent me a text message at 2am this morning to tell me she missed me! Ok, so she was drunk and it’s only been a couple of days since we last talked but I’m glad she thought of me in her drunken texting when she could have thought of anyone else, I even asked her if she sent that one message to the whole of her phone’s contacts and she swears she didn’t!!!

gailcalled's avatar

Sitting on my deck an hour ago, I spotted this (not my photo but it’s what I saw).

A monarch butterfly resting on a pink cosmos.

chyna's avatar

Jessie my newest family member came to live with me today!

gailcalled's avatar

@chyna: ^^^That is the greatest thing that happened to me today, also. What happy news. How old is s/he? I am sure that Molly is sending him/her good thoughts.

Back on my desk, I just spotted a male ruby-throated hummingbird visit the same pink cosmos that the monarch had lighted on. Not my photo but close

janbb's avatar

@chyna I am delighted for you!

Had a great talk with a close friend today and after a very rocky emotional weekend, am reassured that the friendship is strong.

chyna's avatar

She is 2 years old and was given up to me by someone that was having a baby and didn’t want to deal with both. I got the best part of the deal! She is very sweet and I think Molly would approve @gailcalled!

Bellatrix's avatar

Aww @chyna! She is beautiful. I hadn’t looked at the photo until you said “she is 2 years old and was given to me by someone that was having a baby” and I realised people don’t normally give away their toddlers to make way for new babies.

She is gorgeous. How lucky for both of you!

janbb's avatar

@Bellatrix You can give away a toddler? Why didn’t I think of that!

OpryLeigh's avatar

@chyna She’s beautiful, congratulations.

Coloma's avatar

@Chyna…Awwww…what a darling! You can just feel her happy energy in her new home!

An old friend of mine is about to have her 3rd ” Complete Idiots guide to”...... published this Dec. How awesome is that!!!!? I have been slacking on my writing again the last few months but this bit of news has motivated me to finish my unfinished writing projects.
I am determined to be published, one way or another and this great news from a fellow writer has spurred me back into my writing saddle, spurs and riding crop hanging over my own head. lol

augustlan's avatar

I spent the day with my girls, helping @Fly get packed for college and enjoying one last dinner together before she goes. Her dad is driving her to school tomorrow. It was a lovely, productive day.

Saying goodbye was so hard though. She and I cried quite a bit.

gailcalled's avatar

Only 16 months after he promised me, my handyman showed up today to seal my exterior cedar siding and fix the leaks around the skylights.

@augustlan: Remember that it is “au revoir” and not “adieu.” I still remember sobbing when I left my daughter at kindergarten.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled Fast worker! haha, I used to have a Cedar sided house and it is SO important to keep it sealed or it will look like an antique barn in no time. lol

AshLeigh's avatar

My boyfriend got a Scholarship. :)
We should be going to college together, next year. :D

Coloma's avatar

@AshLeigh Woo! :-D

I finally feel GREAT today after 3 weeks of this damn heat wave and being sleep deprived.
I actually managed to put my little butt to bed at 9:45 last night and slept almost 10 hours!
Man, I feel like a new woman today! haha

Mariah's avatar

@augustlan Aw, send my best wishes to @Fly! Leaving sure is hard.

I’m back at school. It’s been a blast so far. And I feel healthier than I’ve felt in six years. So there’s that.

gailcalled's avatar

A friend sent me this quote; true or apocryphal, it made my day

“One of my favorite Julia Childs recipes, which, needless to say I never tried, was for Steak and Bison Pie. It began with a line something like ’take three cups of leftover bison meat.’ I found that so hilarious I quoted it for ages.”

janbb's avatar

After a very rough few days, I feel whole again today. Yay for my women friends and yay for me!

AshLeigh's avatar

I don’t suck at physical science! :D

Coloma's avatar

@AshLeigh How could you? You ARE physical science! lol

Yay….dropped a couple o’ pounds without even trying this last week or so. Always great, sooo, I bought a new outfit today and then had Lasagne with garlic bread for dinner! hahaha

Bellatrix's avatar

One paper down and done and sent off to my peers for feedback. Something to cross off my list.

Tomorrow I will work on the other one I have three quarters finished.

AshLeigh's avatar

@Coloma I suck at all science… :D

blueberry_kid's avatar

I had a great first week in school! I’m extremely happy with my classes.

Dutchess_III's avatar

A MOUSE ATE MY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bellatrix's avatar

It wasn’t today but over this weekend. We went to see Jersey Boys which was great and the lead (I thought) sang some of the Frankie Valli hits better than Frankie did. We went for a meal at a nice French restaurant to start the evening and we finished by spending a night in a hotel in the city so we didn’t have to drive home. And there was a light show on that we could see from our window. Here is a photo I took of my city resplendent with fancy lights. Then we finished off with breakfast and a walk through the markets. Such a lovely 24 hours.

janbb's avatar

I went for a walk and then to a bar and danced to a Springsteen tribute band. Could gotten picked up if I wanted it. Felt like I was back in college….

harple's avatar

I got to tell my folks this weekend that I’m 8 weeks pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D (I know it’s early days, but I just couldn’t wait anymore!)

janbb's avatar

@harple That is so wonderful!!! Wow!!! Big hugs!!!

Coloma's avatar

@harple Congratulations mama!

@janbb

Jaaaaaan…....oh Jaaaan, puhleese make us a new thread, would ya, purty please with sugar on top! :-)

GREAT fall-ish weather is HERE!
Nippy mornings and hovering around 80 degrees the last few days now.
I am actually wearing SOCKS this morning and have pulled up my big comfy comforter the last few nights. Oh bliss out to the 10th power!

The acorns have begun to fall in droves and there is that beautiful clarity of light and the entire atmosphere FEELS lighter with the oppressive heaviness of the past heat wave gone.
Sublime!
I just saw a beautiful gray fox drinking out of the goose pool on my lawn. I think it will be a happy brownie Sunday just taking in the gorgeous weather! Woot!

janbb's avatar

@Coloma Your wish is my command!

NEW THREAD STARTS HERE

Ela's avatar

I met my neighbor. His name is Will. He asked if he could mooch some electricity.
Could be the start of something big…. not! lol Why am I such a winner magnet?

Coloma's avatar

Ela's avatar
