What are your thoughts on a guy getting a speeding ticket for 193 miles an hour on a motorcycle?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) June 3rd, 2012

On one hand, I’m thinking you’re so insane. But I’d like to give that a go. 193 on the NYS thruway. Just hope you don’t hit a traffic jam.

I just wonder why he even stopped for the cops at all. Oh and I read the story and it said he did this in the rain!

I fucking hate this shit. Imagine being the person who gets into an accident and kills him—it’s 100% the motorcycle idiot’s fault, but you have to live with that guilt and horror for the rest of your life. Awful. I hope he goes to jail until his prefrontal cortex finishes developing.

Bet he had “skidmarks” on his honda-pants after that one.

That’s what the track is for…

Or the TT…if you have the balls. That’s real street-racing. Nothing in America can match that.

I think that’s a guy that isn’t going to live to old age.

And there are closed courses and tracks for that sort of thing.

He’s compensating for a tiny wiener and doesn’t take the safety of other people into consideration because he doesn’t give a crap, it’s ALL about him. Christ, why doesn’t he just sit at home and drink himself to death? At least that way he could have a great time and not hurt anyone else.

how did they catch him to give him the ticket is what I think.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@creepermax I think it was a picture camera. No car could catch that guy.

I wonder how they prove he was going that speed. They said a trooper “clocked” him but proving that calculation in court will not be easy. And he got 13 other traffic tickets; I can see reckless driving and maybe not signalling for a lane change, but what else?

I know guys that have gone 150 on bikes, and I don’t get it. That’s the epitome of danger and risk. I love speeding just as much as the next guy, but that’s absurd. I do want to know what it’s like, though.

@nikipedia I haven’t been involved in such a situation, but when it’s something you have no control over, it’s not your fault anyway so why feel bad? I mean, I would feel bad of course, but not devastated.

I have a difficult time thinking of it in any other terms than an EMT. Any time you go faster than the human body is capable of on its own, the potential for damage increases. Remove the “protection” of the outer casing of a car…yeesh. You don’t mention whether or not the person had a helmet or any other protective gear on, but we called them organ donors for a reason.

All I can imagine is the mess he’d make and the trauma to witnesses if he’d had an accident.

Just another stupid piece of shit who obviously has little concern for the safety of others. On second thought he sounds like one really cool guy, and maybe I could get his autograph.

I think he’s an idiot. Several years ago, there were some guys doing wheelies on their motorcycles on a public, well-traveled road, and one of them crashed. I can’t remember if he actually died, but he was pretty messed up, that’s for sure. Luckily, he didn’t take anyone else down with him. If you want to do stuff like that, do it where’s it’s not a danger to other people, damn it!

dontmindme's avatar

My first thought is idiot. What if he causes an accident that kills someone else? I don’t care if he kills himself, because he’s an idiot.

deni's avatar

I wanna kick him in the teeth. He’s going to get killed, and someone else is going to be involved (regardless of if they or he caused the accident) and they are going to either get killed too, or have to live with guilt for the rest of their lives. Dumbasses like him deserve a higher fine.

wallabies's avatar

What if he kills himself? What if some driver not paying attention to the road accidentally hits him? What if 2012 is the end of the world?

The guy is taking a risk that, hopefully, he has thought about a little. I won’t feel bad if he kills himself, I wouldn’t be devastated if he crashed into me and died, I’d rather pay taxes to scrape his body off the asphalt than to bury soldiers in some pointless war or have a TSA officer feel me up.

I think the risk to others depends on who else is on the road. I can’t tell from the post if he was doing this in rush hour traffic (unlikely) or on an open freeway at 3 am in the boonies.

I want to see the video!

I think this motorcyclist is an idiot. There are enough people killed on motorbikes without a rider tempting fate like this. I would kill my boyfriend if I found out he was being this much of a fool on his bike.

deni's avatar

@wallabies You might be devestated if he crashed into you and he died, and you were also left paralyzed the rest of your life. That could suck real bad.

I wouldn’t feel bad if he killed himself either, like people mourned when Jeff Gordon or whatever the hell the NASCAR driver who died in a race not that long ago died….he was NOT ONLY doing what he loved but it was also extremely risky! At least NASCAR is a controlled environment in a sense though, driving on a public road at 200 MPH regardless of time of day is not okay if you ask me.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@deni Are you referring to Dan Wheldon?

deni's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe No idea, I loathe it.

mattbrowne's avatar

In Switzerland the speeding ticket depends on the income of the offender. So if this guy is wealthy he could end up with a ticket for half a million swiss francs.

670,616,436 mph more until the speed of light!
