Outlook 2010 error message: The server is unavailable?

Asked by jnkpauley (226points) June 16th, 2012

I have downloaded Office 2010 on my computer and when I try to open Outlook, the message THE SERVER IS UNAVAILABLE comes up. What can I do to get Outlook up and running?

Wait a bit, it might be on their end.

Also, switch to gmail or something online, who the hell uses outlook or any mail client anymore? It defeats the purpose of having an email vs regular mail if you can only get it one place.

It most likely has to do with your account settings. Outlook will try to set up your account automatically, but it doesn’t do a very good job.

Most email providers have a page walking you through setting up some popular email clients, you might check their support documents online. That’s usually easier than giving them a call.

If you still don’t have any luck, post here who you get your email through and we might be able to help out.
