Anyone watching/watched "The Legend of Korra"?

Asked by Qingu (21185points) June 25th, 2012

To be frank—and I don’t say this lightly—I think this is the best show I’ve ever seen. It’s a 12-episode miniseries cartoon on Nickelodeon, a sequel of sorts to the hugely awesome Avatar: the Last Airbender (which was made into an absolutely horrible movie by M. Night Shaymalan that should not be acknowledged to exist).

(Do yourself a favor and DON’T READ the Wikipedia entry about the Legend of Korra—it’s filled with spoilers.)

I’m just amazed at the quality of kids’ shows nowadays.

I have seen some of the episodes and plan to pick up the rest on Hulu or Netflix as soon as I have the time. I was a huge fan of Avatar: the Last Airbender and when I heard this I actually got excited for a kids cartoon! My boys are completely addicted as well. I love the world these guys have created, that the characters are descendants of Ang, Zuko, etc. and that the lead bad ass is a woman.

I still haven’t seen Avatar: The Last Airbender yet, but when I heard they were making a show centered on Korra, I found myself immediately interested in watching. Should I watch Avatar first? I could easily marathon it on Netflix, but wasn’t sure which I would start with.

You should definitely watch Avatar first. It makes for a delightful weekend.

Korra takes place 70 years later, and you can still enjoy it without having watched TLA, but there are a lot of cool references to stuff from the first show.

I’ve watched the begging until she learns how to use air power. Korra is cute.
