Ear problem?

Asked by kb12345 (435points) July 11th, 2012

For the past 5 years I have always had problems with my ears and wax building up. Today I went to my ear doctor to have them remove some wax for the future. My left ear went well then they used the water pressure on my right. It totally clogged it and sounded very muffled. I waited a while to see the actual doc and he used a sucker vacuum thing to suck out what water was in there. I can hear better but it still feels a little muffled almost like I was just at a concert for a while but only in my right ear. The doctor said it should be better soon since it kind of took a beaten with the sucker thing. Should I be worried?? I just want this feeling to go away!!

Give it a day or two. If it doesn’t clear up, get a second opinion from an ear specialist.

This reminds me of the time I got stool softener for my ear because the earwax was stabbing my brain. I refuse to go to doctors unless my wife actually insists. But since you’ve gone already, it sounds to me like you just need to wait a while. That “sucker” thing probably left your ear a little irritated.

I just hope they got all the water out. Getting water trapped behind ear was can cause swimmers ear and can be really painful. He didn’t five you any drops?

I say give it 2–3 days, unless it starts becoming painful then go back sooner. I recommend chewing some gum off and on the next couple days in case it is just some sort of block similar to when you fly. It can’t hurt, might help. Are you able to pop your ears on both sides?

I’ll send the Q to our ear jelly.

@JLeslie – Thanks!

I agree with the others to wait it out a day or two. If you develop pain or fever, or if there is any discharge or drainage from the ear (other than clear, odorless liquid), see a doctor right away. In the interim, you can try applying some heat to the ear, such as a hot water bottle held against the ear. It will give some relief if you feel pressure or discomfort, and may help any residual water evaporate. I wouldn’t put any type of drops in there, because you don’t know for sure what’s causing it. I hope it resolves quickly!
