Help! I'm Getting a "Firefox must close" error message, but?

Asked by Sueanne_Tremendous (11290points) June 2nd, 2008

The message pops up and says “sorry Firefox has encounterd a problem and needs to close”. Trouble is, I am not using Firefox! I did install it at one time but went back to IE. I removed the Firefox program at least a year ago. When this message first popped up recently I checked and neither Mozilla nor Firefox was in the list of programs, but I did a seach and found a few Firefox files which I deleted. I am still getting the error message. Anyone got an idea what to do?

Ok, I’ve not searched for an answer, yet, I’m just going to give you some tips on what you can do. You could try clearing up your registry and other files on your computer using CCleaner which will also allow you to check all the programs installed on your computer (more so then the Microsoft Add/Remove programs utility) and my final tip for now is to look in your startup programs list (Start Menu > Run, type msconfig and run that, check the startup tab AND the services tab) and try all of that, I’ll try and look for a solid answer if it’s noted anywhere in any bug databases as well :)

Thanks, Skyrail! I did another seach this morning and sure enough, there were 5 Firefox files. The files were created on May 30. I have no clue how they got there or how to stop them in the future. I will follow your suggestions.
