Large chested ladies: What is the best bra for full support and comfort?

Asked by ftp901 (1318points) August 15th, 2012

If you are a large chested lady, can you recommend a bra that is comfortable and works well for you? Please name a specific brand. Cross Your Heart? Warner’s? WonderBra?

I’m tired of having bras digging into me and having back pain.

The best thing to do is to go to a good shop (NOT VICTORIAS SECRET) or Nordstrom, (They’re my favorite) and get fitted well.
I hate “old lady bras” and Nordstrom is the only place I have found that has pretty bras in larger cup sizes with smaller chest circumference sizes. (Like 34 F and G)

Wacoal brand.

Nordstroms is a good suggestion, they carry Wacoal and some other premium brands. The quality really is very different from moderate priced bras to higher priced ones. Most of the better bras for large breasts start at around $50 and go up from there. The bras you named will stretch out pretty quickly, not last nearly as long as better bras, and not give as a good support, and not be as comfortable. Bloomingdale’s has a pretty good selection too. And, of course small specialty bra shops are good. And, @judi is right about Victoria Secret, stay away.

Make sure you buy the right size. Nordstrom’s you are likely to be able to find a sales associate who knows how to measure, but you can measure yourself. The big trick is to get the back size right. Just take a measuring tape and measure right where the band goes around your back, just below your breasts. Most of the better brands, including Wacoal, you add 4. So, if you measure 32, you are a 36 bra. Then find the cup that fits your breasts well. The back size is extremely important, because if it is too loose it will creep up your back, then the straps get loose, and your boobs also will sag down.

I used to tell women, the ugliest bras make the prettiest shirts. This was in FL where t-shirts and casual were the name of the came. Smooth, no seems, looked best. But, if you wear more tailored clothing you can definitely get pretty bras with lace and seems, and they give great support and shape.

Disclaimer: I worked for Wacoal and Calvin Klein and Bloomingdale’s.

Be open minded about fit and style. When I tell the clerk what size they always tell me I must be mistaken, I can’t be that large, but then when trying on their recommendation I am proven right. I tried to wear under wire bras when I was younger but they were so uncomfortable! Now that I know what fits they are so comfortable I can sleep in them. I am not all that big, only an F cup in the “soft cup” styles, or a G cup in “shaped” or “contour cup” styles. Brand doesn’t matter as much for me as size and style.

First step is to be measured and make sure you are wearing the correct size. I buy my bras from Lane Bryant, and their brand is Cacique. There are all kinds of styles, patterns, etc. A lot of sexy ones too as well as lingerie. If you look, I like the balconette bra.

Lane Bryant has an excellent collection of comfortable bras that offer support without making you look larger. Bra types tend to be a more personal choice. I tried to see if my bra has a name to it but I could find it. I just know where to find it in the store. It has a wonderful comfortable back support and it lays flat against your body without cutting in your back because of the lower elastics and last a long time. When you go there they can also fit you for a bra so you are sure to get one that fits perfectly. Most people never really realize what size they really are. It isn’t an extra cost and they can recommend the best support bra for you. I hope they never go away because I haven’t found any bras that fit me as well as their does and that keep its shape through washes. The bras I have purchased there where a little bit costly, (but I got it on a sale) and they still look and feel like new 18 months later.

My favorite bra is made by Leading Lady. This one. I also like this one. I’m a 42 F, if that helps. I agree with everyone saying get fitted.

I have NO idea what this question was doing in my “questions for you” section! But I love the feel of sports bras, the compression is very comfortable. But I am not big in any sense of the word so I don’t know how they would work for you.

@ftp901 Are you large chested and a thin to average otherwise? Some of the bras named above cater to larger women, some cater more towards a thin or average woman with large breasts.

For instance Wacoal has back sizes 30–44. Cacique is 36–50 I think.

I am a 38 C but have a lumpectomy scar and breasts that are slightly different sizes.

I wear only this and have it in five different colors, or this, which has a little less support.

They are both wireless and have a front opening.
