Mostly I was wondering about the banjo, to be honest.

Read playthebanjo’s user name.

Well…first I had a jellyfish. Then I chose this one, http://static.fluther.com/images/v2/avatars/playthebanjo/banjoman.gif but it was so small as an icon that I was afraid it was not recognizable as a guy with a banjo. Then I made this one, http://static.fluther.com/images/v2/avatars/playthebanjo/clockwork_emo.jpg but in a thread about people changing avatars was told that it was too jarring and more clockwork orange than it perhaps should have been. So I made the one I am using now. playthebanjo as a user name (and as an email address) comes from a piece of graffiti that Pete Seeger referenced in some liner notes I read. He said that there was a folk-era (1950’s) musician in NYC that spray painted that all over. Seeger attributed that to more musicians (Kingston Trio, et al) taking up the banjo and making is a popular instrument in the mainstream again.

But that might not answer your question. It is because I play the banjo.

Still just wildflowers (and not an alligator or subdivision…)

It’s me, circa 1967. And it’s okay to end a sentence in a preposition. It’s a mistaken English grammar legend that you can’t end a sentence in a preposion in English. Now in Latin it’s a no-no.

This is a blue vase of peonies – to celebrate the garden in June (and my grandmother’s vase) and not a chicken, I don’t think.

playthebanjo's avatar

I am still trying to see the chicken.

“I always thought gailcalled’s avatar looked like a chicken, but it’s definitely not a chicken.”
tekn0lust

Go figure.

Off topic: I still listen to Pete Seeger and The Kingston Trio and the old Peter, Paul and Mary Trio and The Limelighters…

gailcalled's avatar

Cute chicken. (Any possibility of skipping all the “lols”? Too many get really tedious.)

themherme's avatar

its like a force of habbit, sorry… sometimes I catch myself doing it but most of the time I they just kinda flow out…. :*(

gailcalled's avatar

Still, it was a very cute chicken. If I had to look like one, I would choose her.

How was Babo created?

nathanial's avatar

A chat bubble with the letter “A” inside of it!

wizard's avatar

@nathanial, I like it!

monsoon's avatar

Seriously, after @themherme’s picture, I can see the chicken in @gailcalled’s avatar.

The red is like the eye area, the peach is the beak, and the white is feathers sticking out (it’s sort of an angry looking chicken—or maybe curious). And the vase is a really long outstretched neck.

I can’t stop seeing it now.

monsoon's avatar

@ babo, I think I want to know what your avatar means more than anything else. Can’t say why; there’s something mysterious and intriguing about it.

gailcalled's avatar

@monsoon; you have described me to a T: red-eyed, beaked, white feathers sticking out, angry and a long outstretched neck. (Family, feel free to jump in here at any time.)

wizard's avatar

Wow, that’s exactly what it is! (joking)

monsoon's avatar

@gailcalled, yeah. You’re a talking chicken to me now.

:)
