Can you recommend a very comfortable pair of headphones?

Asked by bookish1 (13159points) August 27th, 2012

I’m looking for some headphones (note: headphones, not anything resembling “ear buds”) for my ipod that will stay very close to my ear, and aren’t going to fall off in a swift breeze. I would also like for them to be decent for wearing while working out. I shave my head very close and so have no hair to help the headphones stay in place, and the current pair I have (Sony separate headphones with retractable cord) fall off my ears all the time and drive me nuts. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Well the conundrum for you is finding something comfortable, compact and that will stay in place. There are plenty of good headphones that do one or two of those things, but harder to find those that accomplish all those things. I found some great skull candy HD headphones at old navy on sale and I love them. I hate earbuds and most of the compact models are either uncomfortable or fall off my ears, so I really like having the full-fledged headphones. But they’re big and bulky, and not suited for working out.

That being said, the oldie-but-goodie scenario might work best for you. If you remember how headphones started out (with the advent of the Walkman), they had thin, light headbands and cushioned earphones that don’t invade the ear canal or cause soreness. You can get those for a dollar at the dollar store, although higher quality ones exist with improved sound quality.

Otherwise, do some good thorough Google searching.

And Gizmodo (whom I trust) gave stellar merits to this head set:

Good luck!

I own a piar of Boise Noise-cancelling headphones. Best money I ever spent. Comfortable, secure fit, and amazing sound quality.

I like the Sony over-the-head in-the-ear type.
I’ve worn them working out and running and they stay put.
They are very light and comfortable, I can also wear them for hours at work.

Koss will have precisely what you are looking for with great sound quality to boot.

This pair is supposedly the best for your use. Their warranty is fantastic, too!

@majorrich I am always looking for the best headphones and those sound like they would be a step above. I am assuming the sound quality is good? since you are recommending them? I have had expensive earphones that were so so and cheap ones that were great. Sony , in my experience is a reliable brand, soundwise. But I don’t know how well thier headphones would stay put. For staying put, the ear buds have been the best and the most intense sound. My favorites so far were by Shure. But I cannot unequivically recommend the brand because the last pair I bought as a replacement were so so. The link is not a pair I have owned so I cannot vouch for them. I can only dream of owning these !!!
@gambitking says Sennheiser is very highly rated. I guess the ideal thing would be to go to the store and try out different brands and styles. Everyone’s ears are different so when buying online it’s a crapshoot.

I am sold on fuze. They sound great, perhaps there are buds that sound better, but none that you can sleep in, or put your helmet on over, and are absolutely molded to fit your ear. I wear them to the range and listen to music while I shoot. They will not come out of your ear until you pull them out. The only caution I have for them is that they should be kept clean.
