A good psychologist in the Los Angeles area?

Find a university near you with a medical school or graduate school that gives a PhD in clinical psychology. The departments may be able to make some recommendations.

Personally, I have found word-of-mouth or recommendations from friends to be the most helpful.

However, I did get the name of a psychiatrist whom I saw for several years from my PCP. He knew me well and listened to my criteria.

Sometimes if you call a local hospital, there may be someone there who can help. They have psychiatrists and therapists on staff.
