How do you get to the fuel filter on a 1997 Toyota Camry?

Asked by elchoopanebre (3079points) June 3rd, 2008

So today I decided to give my car a tune up. I changed the air filter, spark plugs, oil, and oil filter. I also bought a fuel filter but I’ve never changed one before.

I finally found the fuel filter after about 30 minutes of looking. It’s right next to the air filter box and under several hoses and things. It’s very hard to get to.

So is there anyone who’s done this that has some tips for me?

Fuel filters can be very difficult to replace. Usually you have to remove several parts just to get at it. If the hoses and parts are easy to remove I suggest doing so. I am guessing the hoses are for the airt intake. Be sure you remember where everything goes back before you start taking things apart. Just make sure none of them are vaccume tubes. Also, make sure to set a container under the fuel filter to catch the gas, it always makes a stinky mess when you remove the filter. You can buy a repair manual at most auto parts store, just call them to make sure your model is in stock.
If it looks too difficult, take the car to a mechanic.
