What does giving birth/being pregnant symbolize in a dream?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) September 8th, 2012

I feel like I had ALL kinds of symbols in my dream and that it’s not just about the symbolism of pregnancies. Anyone know anything about dream interpretation and if all the symbols tie in together? I don’t take it seriously but I think it’s interesting to hear.

I had a dream that I was sitting in a doctor’s room and then a nurse came in and told me to sit across the room. I sat down and I felt drugged and everything looked hazy. I said, “I feel weird…” the nurse replied, “Well you shouldn’t have gotten pregnant!” I started to feel a baby trying to push through and everyone was getting excited. I finally gave birth to a baby and then someone yelled, “Oh my god!” I started to panic because I thought something was wrong with the baby. Not only that, but I wasn’t ready for being a parent at all.

My boyfriend hurried towards the baby and picked it up. The baby had a faux hawk like he did lol. He tried to show his family the baby. Then he tried to show my family but I freaked out and said, “No! I haven’t told them I was pregnant!” Then he went to a room where my mom was near the doorway folding laundry like she does in real life, and I stopped him from letting her see the baby in fear because I haven’t told them I was pregnant.

When we brought the baby back to my room the baby was really ugly looking. I panicked thinking, “How am I going to explain this to my parents?” and woke up lol.

I don’t think this is the ‘official’ symbol interpretation, but:
Perhaps there is some part of you, maybe one you aren’t even aware of, that is worried about getting pregnant. Either that or you might have a secret that you are ashamed of. This dream is your minds way of exploring it and clearing it out, I think.

I don’t think dream mean anything. I think we would like to interpret them to fit out needs, but mostly dreams are chemical reactions going on in our brains while we sleep, but they are influenced by what we see in our real lives, and anxiety can bring on more stessful situations in our dreams.

I’ve had dreams where I was pregnant, lost a child, married to a celebrity, been gay, experienced nuclear war, death and destruction, had relatives who have passes away return to life, had to go back to my very first job, had to go back and start elementary school all over again, etc. etc. Most of those things are fairly common themes in people’s dreams, only with slight variations. It does’t mean anything other than I have a lot of stress or I ate a very spicy meal too close to bedtime.

“To dream that you are pregnant symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. You may not be ready to talk about it or act on it. Being pregnant in your dream may also represent the birth of a new idea, direction, project or goal. Alternatively, if you are trying to get pregnant, then the dream may be a wish fulfillment. If you are not trying to get pregnant, but dream that you are, then it symbolizes fear of new responsibilities.”

“To dream of giving birth or see someone else giving birth suggests that you are giving birth to a new idea or project. It also represents a new attitude, fresh beginnings or a major event. Alternatively, the dream may be calling attention to your inner child and the potential for you to grow.”

Thanks everyone. I agree with Kardamom. I think I know the reason why I dreamt I was pregnant. Maybe it’s because I ate so much last night and right before bed I pushed out my belly as far as I could and I showed my bf how I looked 5 months pregnant lmao

What you think about the dream is most likely to be true. Dreams are usually about fears, wishes and recaps of things you have experienced while awake. I think you hit the nail on the head and this one is a re-cap for you.

Sounds like a fear of not being in control. Events are happening that effect you without your input, or even dirctly aginst your wishes.

A birth of an idea.
A new beginning.
