If a loaf of sliced, store bought bread gets partly squished, will it fluff back up on its own?

I am very annoyed at myself. I bought two loaves of raisin bread at the store today. In a rush, pouring rain, when I packed the bags into my car I put bottled water on top of the soft raisin bread. When I got home and realized what I did, both loaves were partially squished.

Will they fluff back up on their own? If not, is there anything I can do to save them?

I don’t think that there is anything that can be done to revive the loaves…at least not from my experience in doing a similar act.

How about using the loaves for French toast? The slices might be able to be stretched out a bit once they are dipped in batter. Another option is to use them for making bread pudding. One loaf can always be stored in the freezer until you are ready to use it.

Massage a single slice a little bit and then try lightly toasting it. If nothing else, you will give it a little of what the Brits call “bottom.”

Even if they don’t fluff back out, they are still perfectly good to eat…. Just not pretty.

I can tell you how to re-freshen stale bread, but not how to re-fluff

You might be able to straighten them out a little one slice at a time. Try working with it. But don’t expect much. The loaf will not fluff up on it’s own, especially since it is store-bought bread. Fresh bread from a premium baker might have a chance, but the fact that it is raisin bread makes it less likely.

Just take the loaf and “massage” it, if it fails just leave it in the fridge and it will fluff right back up.

I’ve never tried it, try putting it in the microwave for a few seconds maybe?

Done that one myself and they were considered a loss each time. Not a good idea to put any in a toaster but you get to make some pretty weird sandwich shapes. I hardly waste any kind of food.

Microwaving even the shapeliest slice of bread will turn it squishy. When you remove the bread from the microwave, even your thumbs will leave a lasting impression.

I’ve never succeeded in reviving the crushed slice. You can cut off the crushed part and use the rest the way you intended. The crushed part, because it’s raisin bread will make excellent bread pudding. Put a little rum in it, if you like rum.

As someone who is a klutz and squishes her bread while shopping, I can say you really can’t un-squish it after the damage is done.

my boyfriend managed to squish half our bread loaf after purchase yesterday. Grr! Good thing it’s still delicious!

Make some french toast with it. You can tear it into pieces and soak it in egg and then when in the pan it will create whatever shape you want, if you care about the shape, if the bread is very egg soaked. My husband pulls out the inside from french baggettes and hoagie rolls some times when he makes sandwiches and I use the inside part for french toast. It winds up being roundish like the shape of the pan when I do it. You can also make the type of french toast you bake in the oven.

I also use bread pieces in meatloaf and meatballs instead of breacrumbs. I tear the bread inti pieces and the bread disintergrates when mixed in with the other things I add to meatloaf, a little bit of water, some ketchup, beefy onion soap, etc.

Also, remember bread freezes and defrosts very well, so you can freeze it for when you are ready to use it in a recipe.

Bread update: The bread fluffed up for the most part, enough so that I can use it and it doesn’t look mangled.

No it’s easy to do you take a little bit of salt sprinkle it in the bag and I use a hair sprayer but one spray of lukewarm water put it in the microwave and Bam just like new my mom taught me that they used to do it back in her little house in the prairie days when she learned that the Dead Sea was only sick
