If someone sends a text to my google voice number and I receive it in my mobile phone and respond, what number appears on their phone? My GV number or my mobile number?

I know that when using Google Voice for phone calls, you (the owner) have the option to select the phone number that shows in caller ID to the recipient.

I think (but I am not 100% sure) that the same principle holds for text messages, but I am not positive.

@elbanditoroso is correct about voice calls, which means that you can set your phone to make calls via the GV phone number from your standard phone dialer. You don’t need to run the GV app to place a call through GV.

However, it appears that when you use the standard phone’s text messaging app, you are sending the text message via your actual cell phone number – not GV number. If you want to send a text via the GV phone number, you need to run the GV app.

Note: This assumes you are using an Android phone. I am also not 100% correct because a) I don’t text, and b) ICS or Jellybean might work differently. I am running Gingerbread (2.3.4).

I can confirm what @elbanditoroso and @tom_g wrote is true for Android 4(AKA ICS AKA Ice Cream sandwich)

I’m using an iPhone 4s. I should have mentioned that.
