Do you think Samsung will be successful in suing Apple over use of LTE technology?

Asked by _Whitetigress (4378points) September 10th, 2012

I haven’t read whether or not Samsung owns the patent for the antenna or signal chip that is capable of using LTE signal technology.

If Samsung wins, will iPhone 5 (which reportedly includes LTE technology) no longer be available in market? Or will there just be a huge fine that Apple must pay? Something tells me that Samsung is hoping to just get at least a ¼ of what they had to pay Apple, when they themselves were sued over physical patent structures.

What say you?

I believe Apple buys the LTE “chips” from Qualcomm. They have been using them in the iPad for a year. I would think if Samsung had a legitimate case they would be going after Qualcomm.

One can only hope. And hopefully it will cripple Apple into bankruptcy.

Probably, at least partially.

But it will be fun to watch,

Hard to say, but when you remember where the chips in the iDevices come from, you can see how this is actually a complicated situation. But the biggest complication is simply that Patent Law and Common Sense often conflict, so nobody with any common sense can accurately gauge what the courts will do.

Personally, I don’t care. Why can’t these tech companies just stop acting like four year-old children and just accept that competition is designed to be there?
