Anything I should know or show special respect to at a Catholic Funeral?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) October 12th, 2012

I’ve been to lots of funerals but I think this may be my first Catholic one. The wife of a dear friend passed away. I don’t want to screw up. Anything I should or shouldn’t do?

You should know that they changed the response to “The Lord be with you” to “And with your spirit”. So you’ll probably hear that a lot. You’ll also hear other people use the old “And also with you”, as well. Take your pick. You won’t be expected to participate, but it’ll be pretty obvious what’s going on if you choose to.

Like @Seek_Kolinahr said, just follow along and you’ll be fine. As you’re not Catholic, don’t go for communion and know that you don’t have to kneel if you don’t want to.

That was really interesting. The church was beautiful and the ceremony is amazing.

One of the reasons I joined the Catholic Church back in the day was because of the beauty and serenity of the experience, for once I actually felt closer to God in a church setting. Truly amazing.

@KNOWITALL I can see why. I hate funerals with all of my heart. But that one I’m glad I went. And my friend is doing okay.
