How are you impacted by the changing seasons?

Asked by marinelife (62485points) October 16th, 2012

I love the fall: the cool, crisp air; the clear, warm days; the leaves rustling in the wind.

Beyond that, I feel myself readying for winter, wanting to curl up inside with a cup of tea (even though it is still in the 70s), sleeping deeply with a cool breeze coming in the window or the sound of rain falling.

Wanting to get out and go someplace.

What happens to you with the leaving of summer and coming of fall?

Same as you, I love it. I washed all my blankets and comforters, clean carpets, schedule vacations, go to fall festivals in my area, etc…LOVE IT!

I find that I have to adjust to every season every year. It requires a little act of will, but I do notice it and have all my life.

Natural sunlight wakes me up. The vibrant colors of the fall landscape strikes an emotional chord. And yes, the chill of a cold winter’s day or night brings about the desire for a hot cup of tea or coffee. Where I currently live, the heat of summer is annoying, at best. A call to my sister who responded to what she was doing evoked the answer of, “I’m just laying here in bed watching the sweat pool in my belly button.”

There is a certain comfort in seasonal changes. Then again, I haven’t lived in an area where there is not any noticeable difference.

I love summer. I relish springtime because it means winter’s over. I like the fall and its beauty and how it makes me feel – all warm and cozy. I detest winter! I don’t like being cold and I don’t like snow, so for the past 2 winters I have managed to run away from northeastern US to Florida for internships and now I’ve decided to move here permanently. So no more cold, snowy winters for me – that is, unless I go visit my family up north during the wintertime, but that won’t be so bad because it’ll be by choice and I will have the option of running away again if I start to get too cold lol

I keep an eye on it. I like to watch the sunsets and notice how early they are and how they have moved across the sky since summer. I like to watch the trees as their leaves change colour and begin to fall to the ground. I get an enjoyment from it I can’t explain. I always have.

I love the changing seasons, but, I get grumpy and burned out every Aug./Sept. with the heat and endless watering chores around my property, and I get a little depressed every Feb./March when it has been cold and gloomy for months. Last year we didn’t have much of a winter and I was burned out on the endless cold but sunny days and lack of good storms.
I hope this winter kicks ass and we get a lot of rain and snow. :-)

Right now it is a lovely 70 something and we are enjoying warm days and cool nights, just perfect!

I enjoy the changing seasons, even here in California where people say we don’t have them. I love October afternoons when the sun’s angles are declining each day, and the light is golden. I like the summer nights with dusk until bedtime and the sky with an intense dark-blue-not -black at ten o’clock, and the glorious early morning sun rise.

And the winter with the sun so low it lightens the scudding rain clouds. And always spring with its fresh green scent every where.

@Coloma There was report in the Chronicle last week that it is supposed to be a harsh winter, with heavy snows at Tahoe like it was two years ago.

Coloma's avatar

@zenvelo Woo Hoo! Yes, Dec. of ‘09 we got dumped on here at about 2000 feet with 16 inches of snow! It was freaking great! Except my power was out for a week and I was trapped in my driveway for 3 days! haha

Bring it on!

I wish the seasons where I live were more noticeable. I live in a tropical climate, I miss all that is spring or autumn. We seem to have two here, summer and cooler summer! But the drop in temperature is always welcome, and it means I can wear nice clothes again. We are heading into summer now, not fun!!

I usually like fall, but not this one. I’m getting depressed. I don’t like it. It is very disturbing, and I think it has to do with the lessening of the light.

I don’t like change very much. I have been lucky enough to live in an area that is basically mild all year long, with a few exceptions, such as triple digit temperatures during the summer, but those days are very few.

I hate snow, and we don’t have any here.

I like autumn best, dark nights closing in, the rustling of fallen leaves underfoot, strictly come dancing on the gogglebox, christmas just around the corner….....niiiice!!

I am totally diggin’ the acorns falling right now, every few minutes one hits the house, bounces off the walls, goes “thunk” in the driveway, hits the deck. Not so much when they fly through my cars open window and hit me in the face, which has happened several times.
Killed by an acorn, it could happen, yes it could! lol

Here in Central Texas we have “Pre-Summer”, “Summer”, “Post-Summer” and two weeks of what most of the US calls “Spring” before beginning all over again.
I would love to have actual seasons.

The leaving of summer and the coming of fall means to me that my birthday is coming up, that there is more peace found in being inside and doing hardly anything, because the cold seems so uninviting. Through this, being outside seems to become a more interesting and special event, when I go outside.
It also means looking out of my bedroom window at the trees in my street every morning as I wake up and quietly comparing the colour and quantity of the leaves to their colour and quantity the morning before.
Every morning on the way to school I take a deep breath through my nose, waiting for the day on which the frosty nip in the air tingles inside it, that has always meant to me that winter has arrived.
Also, it means walking through the streets on the way home in the afternoon, when it is already dark, and looking into the windows of the houses I pass, warmly lit and cosy-looking.

I live in a tropical climate…. We are heading into summer now, not fun!!

If you don’t mind me asking, do you live in northern Australia?

Coloma's avatar

@Brian1946 I’m pretty sure she lives in South Africa.

It’s so cute right now, both my cats are lying side by side up on my lawn under a giant oak tree just basking in the breeze and watching the leaves and acorns fall. Happy kitties they are! :-)
My avatar is the river and hills 5 minutes from me in spring here in the Sierra Foothills. I even took that same hot air balloon tour, but, it is now cancelled because people complained the balloon scared their horses and cows. lol

The change to autumn is a mixed bag for me. It starts out lovely… I love the crisp, clear air and the beautiful colors. It’s enough to make me positively giddy! As it progresses, though, a sense of dread due to the coming winter develops. It feels a bit like mourning a coming death while still enjoying your life. A little disconcerting.

I have SAD, and get depressed every winter, so the change to this season affects me very badly. On top of that, I only like snow if I can enjoy looking at it from inside. If I have to go anywhere during it, I loathe it.

The transition between winter and spring is when I really come alive. More light! Fresh spring green! Happy days!

The coming of summer makes me feel lethargic. Summer itself is tolerated. Heat and humidity are not good friends of mine. Really wish I could just have spring and fall only.

tinyfaery's avatar

No changing of the seasons much in Los Angeles. The trees in my neighborhood change, but it’s really just a big hassle. I’m just happy if it rains.

marinelife's avatar

@tinyfaery I love it when the jacarandas bloom though.

Coloma's avatar

Well, every season has it’s harvest and fall is an amazing harvest time in my zone.
Wine grapes, table grapes, apples, and, the famous NorCal green bud. lol
A veritable cornucopia of natures bounty.

woodcutter's avatar

For some reason we feel shittier starting about early November. Not sure why, but it is real.

gailcalled's avatar

^^Less sunlight?

woodcutter's avatar

I think it is the colder temps and dampness.
