Powerbook full of duck tape?

Asked by zerok (24points) July 1st, 2007

I saw a photo here and just wanted to know, if a Powerbook really needs all this duck tape. Couldn't this cause some extra noise if those taps get loose?

Probably not duck tape -- looks to me like insulating tape that ends up on some edges as a "just in case something touches this"

But that's without looking inside one myself =)

Speaking as an advocate of all ducks, w. due respect, do you mean "duct?" Quack.

There is a brand of Duct Tape called "Duck"

Additionally, it looks more like the kind of tape used by ducks to hold things together, rather than the shiny silver kind people use to hold just about anything but ducts together.

My neighbor keep ducks. They DO seem busy so I'll keep an eye out. Funny :-)

And of course, here's the site w. ROFL stuff. http://www.ducktapesavestheday.com/

SIDENOTE: In reality duck tape was originally called duck tape, because the way the water rolls off the tape was like the way water rolls off a duck's back. Then it began being used in air ducts.

Therefore either name is fine :D

So why won't the gray duct tape hold my broken 1/4" thick glass table top together? The table sits outside and the gray top surface peeled off leaving only the mesh fabric. Glass is split again. I haven't found a glue that works.

I've noticed that in extremely hot temperatures the tape melts.

There's some stuff called Canada Balsam that might glue your table back together. It uses Xylene as a solvent, so might be hard to come by.

=)

Xylene sounds lethal. Prob. safer and cheaper to buy a new piece of glass... "Health Hazard Summary: Overexposure to xylene most commonly depresses the central nervous system, producing headaches, nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness, and irritates the eyes, nose, throat, and skin." Many sites cite the same info.

bpeoples's avatar

Yeah-- that's why I mentioned it. Xylene is one of those solvents you just don't want to play with... if I remember correctly, it's one of the reasons to wear a respirator (not just a dust mask) when using spray paint.

So are there now tons of tape in a PowerBook 12" or not? ;-)

bpeoples's avatar

All depends on how much tape you put in your 12" Powerbook to begin with. Listen to audiobooks? Tons of tape.

Just edit photos? Not so much tape.

Hope this helps,
Ben

there is no duct tape, or duck tape, inside a powerbook.

also, gailcalled, you should try two ton epoxy for your glass table. duct tape has very high tensile strength (resistance to tearing), but it's too flexible to tape up a seam in a heavy material like glass. two ton epoxy has a holding strength of, well, two tons. once it hardens, it's nearly as strong as steel.
