Guitar Madness - how to play (and sing) "Our House"?

Asked by fremen_warrior (5510points) November 25th, 2012

Musically skewed Jellies: Guitar Jellies, I’ve got a problem – my brain can only run one non essential function at a time… How do you deal with singing that is out of sync with your strumming? To play the song I’m using these chords and a general stroke pattern of DD UDUD DD – I can’t for the life of me sing this while strumming because either one gets messed up by the other. It’s a bleeding nightmare – any tips on how to learn to play this song and not trip over my own brain? Hand-mouth coordination exercises? lol

Of course it won’t be a perfect rendition, still I can’t even just barely do it, even slowing down doesn’t help much… btw. I just need to be able to play this song, and because of reasons too.

The song – in case you’re too lazy to google it lol.

Thank you in advance, the Fremen.

Practice – Practice – Practice. Been there done that. It took me a long time to learn to finger pick and sing at the same time. I was the bass player and we would switch instruments in the band ( on stage ) and play another instrument. Switched from bass to twelve string folk guitar and had to Travis pick ( not me on video ).
Had to sing in three part harmony too.
Practice the strumming until it is like breathing, you do it without thinking.

I got my first guitar when I was 15, now I’m over 60 and still wearin’ jeans.

Do what @Tropical_Willie says, then practice some more…
