Do you feel proud after every difficult accomplishment of yours each day?

Asked by Highbrow (366points) December 6th, 2012

Is your everyday work gives you full fulfillment or is there room for improvement ?

Are you discreet about your job? Do you tend to overstate your skills ?

Many thanks…

Not really. I tout my accomplishments to my boss, but I don’t say anything about my skills. I let my accomplishments speak for themselves. Fortunately, my boss notices. That’s why I decided to work for him.

I save it for special accomplishments.

I feel proud that I can summon the strength to just show up every day.

Naw. It’s never enough. I’ve learned that pride is not something I can every think about. It’s one of the fast routes to depression.

I work in health care, so I feel fulfilled every day in that I’m helping people get answers for their health concerns, and I try to make them feel more at-ease with the process. I feel a special sense of accomplishment when my patients thank me with tears in their eyes or give me a big hug. No matter where I’ve worked, I’ve always considered my patients to be my “boss”, so acknowledgement and appreciation from them means much more than any I might get from the physicians or administrators that I work for. I think I can sometimes be a bit too smug (because I hold myself to very high standards), but not in a boastful way – more in an internal sense of overconfidence – but in healthcare, it isn’t long before an unexpected challenge humbles you again.

That is great to hear, @hearkat. Your patients are very lucky to have you.

I do feel proud after difficult accomplishments. Whether those are academic/professional, or emotional/interpersonal. I’m learning to give validation to myself instead of seeking it from other people. I am the only one who knows what some of my struggles are like.

No. I may feel content that I have completed a difficult or onerous task – proud – not usually. That’s reserved for special achievements.

I am fulfilled by my work. There is always room for improvement. To say otherwise would mean I was complacent and I am not.

I don’t brag. I let my superiors know when I have achieved something important or valuable to my organisation or when we (I work in a number of teams) get great feedback. I don’t overstate my skills. I would probably go the other way and understate than embellish.
