How much is too much for a lip tatoo?

Asked by courtneyxcupxakes (33points) June 7th, 2008 from iPhone

Ive heard of people paying anyhere from $30—$70. They aren’t that big, dont take that much ink, and certainly dont take very much time. Also they fade very quickly. What would you pay? OR What have you paid already?

I wouldn’t pay two cents. Quite frankly, for me to get a lip tattoo someone would have to be paying me.

I wouldn’t pay over $64.
; )

Nor would I ever get one at a tattoo house.

$70 seems high. Depends on the size and style, too. My guess would be around $50.

Haha randy.. I won’t be going there. No worries. I value my disease-less state

just out of curiosity…what would you get as a lip tattoo? Words? Design?

I was going to get “Crump.” its my mothers maiden name and it is probably about to die if my uncle doesn’t have kids.. And I doubt that will happen. The place I went to wanted $65 when I know for a fact they did one 4 times as long for $35 a month before.

that’s awesome. : )

Tattoos require a certain initial investment. You know, things like clean needles and a sterile environment. So a dot could cost just as much as ten inch line.

@courtney; perhaps in ten years you might not be happy with Crump on your lip? Or will it fade? Or why not put it on some less tender skin? (Or name your first child “Crump”.)

@Gail- with a lip tattoo, there is almost no discomfort and yes, over time it will break down and fade away. As a family name, I don’t think it would be regretable, but that’s a matter of opinion as well I guess.

you should not be paying less than $80.00 if you are I would question the integrity of the shop. Shop min should be $60 & added $20 for the lip. It also fades fast so they will not guarantee the work, same goes withunderside of hands and feet. Make an appointment never waste time with a shop that does walk ins

what if someone says ” there is a crump on your lip” you might think they said “crumb”, and try to wipe it off.

Randy's avatar

@ pattyb- It goes on the inside. The only people that see it are the people who the tattooed person chooses to show.

gailcalled's avatar

@Randy; Inside? Wouldn’t that feel like getting cavities or root canal done w/o novocaine? And people volunteer for this?

Randy's avatar

@ Gail, No, the needle only penetrates the first layer of the dermis. Here is an example of the procedure being done.

pattyb's avatar

in that case why don’t you have it say something like ” hidy ho” or “eff off” or like “happy secretarys day” or whatever holiday u like, if it fades in a few weeks.

gailcalled's avatar

Randy; thank you for sharing. Such a beautiful girl. How can that not hurt?

And what if the torturer’s artist hand slipped and he wrote “Chump”?

arnbev959's avatar

Gail won’t be getting a tattoo any time soon.

playthebanjo's avatar

she’s gonna get LOL IDK on her bicep.

gailcalled's avatar

I have been considering whether to pierce my ears for decades. I decided not to (why let the Chi escape? I need all I can get).

Maybe just a T-shirt that says “It’s spelled definitely.”

And probably Milo would leave me if I got a tat. He is definitely a conservative guy, of the old school.

@Play; so nice of you to assume that I still have biceps. (I do, as it happens.)

ryibd's avatar

I want to get “skoal” or “Copenhagen” tattooed on the inside of my lip
