Whats the best current free antivirus software?

Asked by mjm8401 (173points) December 22nd, 2012

For a few years I used Avast, now it constantly locks up my internet browser and or makes it crash. So I uninstalled it and now everything is running smooth again. So what is a good free antivirus that doesn’t do that?

Same as above, if you’re on Windows, according to all the tests I’ve seen, Microsoft Security Essentials is as good as or better than just about anything else.

If you’re using a Windows OS, then logically a Microsoft solution is better than a third party one. I’ve tried AVG, Avast, Norton (and even paid for that bastard as well, useless…never ever pay for anything by Norton, they are crap and I speak from several unfortunate experiences in the space of a year’s license). All horrid. MSE is your best bet.

I don’t have a lot of experience with a lot of free antivirus software, but I fing AVG pretty good for free protection.
