How do I attach the lenscap to the strap of my Canon EOS Rebel T3 camera that Santa got me for Christmas?

I LOVE this camera. The only thing I would change would be to have a string on the lens cap so I can pull the cap off in a hurry and shoot. There isn’t one, though. There is a sort of an H-shaped rubber sliding thing on one side of the straps. Santa says the cap is supposed to attach to it, but for the life of me I can’t see how….and I wouldn’t like it anyway. I have about a 2 second window to get 70% of my shots. Don’t have time for a lot of mechanics. I thing I’d just as soon super glue a leather string on the cap and tie it to the eyelets that the neck strap ties to.
I’ve downloaded my camera instructions to a PDF file, and I’ve done a search. Don’t see a thing on that. Any suggestions?
