What movies are you looking forward to seeing in 2013?

Asked by Berserker (33548points) January 1st, 2013

I, for one, can’t wait to see Texas Chainsaw 3D.
I can think of a few things that kind of bug me…it takes place after the 1974 original, which is great. But the story, from what I know of it, seems a little odd, and the way it’s made, it means we won’t get to see any of the other Hewitt family members (presumably) besides Leatherface. Don’t get me wrong, I love Leatherface, but I always loved the rest of his crazy ass family, both in the original movies and remakes. also they changed his name from Thomas Hewitt to Jeb Sawyer…if someone can enlighten me on that one…is it because the word ’‘saw’’ is in his last name? XD
But the movie seems to have everything it needs; a cheesy scenario, victims doing stupid things, false alarms and scares aplenty, and what I love the most about this series, morbid and creepy imagery. I’m totally looking forward to see it, and it’s pretty soon too. ^_^

also I wanna see Evil Dead

So, what 2013 movies are you looking forward to? Tell us what you know of it so far, and why you’re looking forward to seeing it.
Oh and hell, don’t limit yourself to 2013 releases…take any year. :)

The new alternate reality Star Trek movie: Into Darkness.

One of these I will see in the theater. Can you guess which?

Iron Man 3

bookish1's avatar

The Great Gatsby.
On The Road.
(But scared to see both!)

@Seek_Kolinahr: Is Into Darkness a movie-length remake of Mirror, Mirror? ;)

Seek's avatar

@bookish1 I honestly have no idea what it’s about, but the whole 18 year old Cap’n Kirk stuff is entirely Alternate Universe, and has no bearing on the canon of the Original Series or any subsequent series based in the “original” universe.

And I’m going to wait for the DVD, unless I hear something massive and unmissable is going to take place.

My movie…jellyfish porn in IMAX 3D! : ) Also, I wish a Hollywood producer would come up with Merman Zombies from Atlantis or something like that…

RandomGirl's avatar

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug should be good. Reading the book now :)

OpryLeigh's avatar

I am very excited about Les Miserables which I am hoping to see next week! Also, Despicable Me 2 and The Guilt Trip (because it has Barbra Streisand in it obviously!)

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I can’t wait to see the second movie in the Hunger Games trilogy- Catching Fire. I’m also super excited about the second movie in the Hobbit trilogy.

mazingerz88's avatar

I’m going to cheat. Was too lazy to research upcoming 2013 movies and created this list from the answers above…heh heh.

1. Star Trek – apparently, lots of Trek fans were unhappy with the science of the first but I’m not one of them. Just give me lots of space action and witty dialogue between Spock, Kirk, Scotty, Bones and I’m happy as a trembling tribble.

2. World War Z – excited but I worry if this will deliver. Read the book and loved it. I would not have read it yet if I knew there will be a movie.

3. Kick-Ass 2 – wow, didn’t even know there’s going to be one but can’t wait to see HitGirl again and expecting her to decapitate a bad guy this time and scream Fuk You! to the decapitated head just before quartering it with a sword. Too much? Yes. Yes it is.

4. Pacific Rim – only for two simple reasons. Hollywood funded visual sfx and Guillermo del Toro.

5. Die Harder-er…er-! – was a teenager in the 80s so I feel it’s my duty to feel excited about John Mclane’s antics and gun shooting. I will watch until he teams up with his grandkids killing terrorists but I will draw the line if he teams up with his pet canine cyborg.

6. The Hobbit – ill be excited only when December comes. In the meantime, I’ll hate it for not being shown this summer.

7. Ironman 3 – excited because Shane Black is involved. Praying he’ll do a Josh Whedon for The Avengers and not do a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang fiasco.

8. Superman – what can i say…I will always be excited because I love what this guy stands for. A boy scout in a cape that could pulverize a planet if he wants to. But he won’t see? He’s too decent for that. And no one does flying like Sups. No one.

Just hoping not too much angst was injected into his character by Nolan and Goyer. And lots of action puhleeeze! The recent animated Superman movies by Warner Bros. have good if not great action scenes. Hope this movie has shockingly good ones…

cutiepi92's avatar

1. IRONMAN 3!!!!! I love Robert Downey Jr as Ironman. Love love love!
2. Superman
3. Star Trek
4. A Good Day to Die Hard <——or something like that lol
5. Oz the Great and Powerful <——- again, something like that

bookish1's avatar

@cutiepi92 : Wait, they’re remaking The Wizard of Oz ???

ucme's avatar

Sorry to jump in, but I got here first so there…no it’s not a remake, more of a prequel if anything, although it’s set way before the 1939 movie takes over.
Directed by Sam Raimi yes him & starring the gorgeous Mila Kunis as the wicked witch of the west, hubba hubba!

cutiepi92's avatar

Damn you @ucme lmao. Yes @bookish1 , it’s a like a prequel. It looks pretty cool to me

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

As @ucme said, it’s a prequel. It’s all about how the “wizard” originally made it to Oz.

ucme's avatar

@cutiepi92 & yes, you too @WillWorkForChocolate I get my information by standing behind a curtain randomly turning wheels & pulling levers, it’s all a big smokescreen you see :¬)

bookish1's avatar

Well, didn’t L. Frank Baum write his own prequels?? Is this based on another Oz book?

ucme's avatar

@bookish1 It’s adapted from the same book The Wondeful Wizard of Oz, but set in a time prior to then…work that one out.

bookish1's avatar

HOLY CRAP HOW COULD I FORGET!!!
Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie, directed by Deepa Mehta!!!!!!
I can’t wait to see how she made this incredible work of literature into a film!!!

@ucme: So a made-up prequel that’s not based on any of Baum’s own backstory? Curiouser and curiouser…

Seek's avatar

@bookish1 How did I not know anything about that? Gods I wish you lived closer to me. We need to hang out.

bookish1's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr : I think I heard about it on the BBC news. Too bad we can’t hang out… We’d have a Star Trek and Python movie marathon ;)

Seek's avatar

@bookish1 I have an old rehearsal tape you’d like to see, too. Though, Kurt spends most of the time staring into the corner and mumbling incoherently to himself. However, the lyrics to Teen Spirit are completely different.

Kardamom's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr You may have to temporarily change your name to Seek_Cumberbatch! Sherlock Holmes in space, Woot!

Seek's avatar

Cumberbatch as Smaug AND in Space?!?! I can feel the eargasms in anticipation.

Kardamom's avatar

^^ LOL eargasms : )

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I forgot to include Zero Dark Thirty in my previous comment. I saw it today, and man was it great! Really intense. The guy next to me was white-knuckling his armrests.

Bellatrix's avatar

Oh I am going to look forward to that one then @WillWorkForChocolate. I saw Les Mis the other day. As much as I like Russell and Hugh – I didn’t like the film. Their singing was very weak in my opinion and couldn’t carry the tunes. I’ve never seen the stage version or read the book so I had no preconceived ideas about the story. The story is great – this production didn’t work for me.

mazingerz88's avatar

@Bellatrix Thank you! I’m not alone. I walked out during the first 20 minutes of Les Mis. The director may have done well with The King’s Speech but it seems he stumbled here.
