Have you heard about the "Bazinga Bee"?

Asked by Strauss (23618points) January 4th, 2013

A Brazilian biologist named a species of Brazilian orchid bee Euglossa bazinga in honor of Dr. Sheldon Cooper, a character on the sitcom “Big Bang Theory”.

Do you know of any other scientific discoveries named after pop culture figures or events?

What makes this particular bee most interesting is that it has certain mammalian characteristics in addition to being an insect. For example, it is warm blooded and it feeds its young warm milk.

In order for that cross-species miracle to have occurred, the Bazinga Bee developed very large mammary glands (breasts) which have been known to the scientific community as:

<drum roll please>

Bazinga Bazongas
