PC keeps having trouble finding HDD?

Asked by Questionsaboutstuff (265points) January 6th, 2013

So I have a few hard drives I’ve plugged them all into the same SATA slot my main drive as was in, I’ve tried multiple SATA slots. They show up in the BIOS, but once I log in my PC can be funny and not show the hard drive there, I go into disk manager and they don’t show up.

Even plugging in external drives is playing up and they dont always show up in my computers or disk manager. What should I do?

Sounds like intermittent data connection to me.
Jiggle the cables on both ends.

How are you plugging in external drives? If they’re on eSATA they’re going through the same bus. If the cables are all good it could be the SATA controller :-(
If you have an extra slot you can get a SATA card and disable the controller on the mobo.
