Would you go on record calling these ”Perv Nations”?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) January 10th, 2013

So much is said about age and sex, especially here in the US. If anyone desires to have a relationship or sex with anyone under 18, even if they feel it is love for that one person and not just using them to have sex with, that the older partner is sick in the head or a pedophile. Based off this story, and I am sure there are many other marriages like them even if the ages are closer, would you go on record to say that Saudi Arabia is a pedophilic nation? Or you go on record calling Australia, Guam and Fiji a nation of perverts for having a 16yr age of consent, or France, Italy, and Sweden for allowing people to have sex with tender young adults of age 15 without penalty? Notwithstanding the argument that in spite the physical maturity that the brain is not fully mature until age 25; and that is omitting those freakish smart people called geniuses who faster maturing brains gained them no authority ahead of the physical development.

Not all US states have an 18-year age of consent, you know. I’ve known young women who were married at 16.

My grandmother was married at age 14 (that was in 1896)!

I see nothing wrong with sex at 16 provided it is consenting. Younger than that is a violation of my personal code, and I think it should be against the law.

@CWOTUS Not all US states have an 18-year age of consent, you know. I’ve known young women who were married at 16. Good you pointed that out, otherwise I might have been thought to have made it up. About half of the nation the age of consent is 16, and some less than that, it curiously strange Hollywood seems to be behind.

The story you linked is an 86 year old man and his 15 year old bride. That would register a red flag to me if it was an 86 year old man and a 21 year old.

Age of consent in the US.

I think re. the “age of consent” is about between teenagers themselves, as in 17year old can with a 16yr old. But I’m not sure. 17 year old sounds like so much older than a 16 doesn’t it though?

So no, I wouldn’t call them “perv nations” or pedophilic nations.. That’s a bit of cultural imperialism there @Hypocrisy_Central . And you can get married in the US in many states as young as 14 if you have parental consent. Would you call that a pervy law?

Crashsequence2012's avatar

No, I wouldn’t.

I don’t like it when other nations see fit to criticize mine.

Just observing the Golden Rule.

Don’t try to show us all your righteousness by flapping your cakehole.

Go over there and do something about it.

Sorry. I’m not that righteous.

I’m pretty sure there are several states in the US in which a girl can be married with her parents’ permission at age 14.

So… whatever.

“Age of majority” is a cultural construct. Throughout human history, a person has been considered grown upon reaching puberty – a female by the arrival of her menses or the development of her breasts, and a man by the growth of his beard (generally speaking).

@zensky I know a lot of 16 year olds who are way more mature and much, much smarter than you. So yes. There are a lot of 16 year olds I don’t have to know, but they are more intelligent and mature than you…..so…..there are younger people smarter than both of us.

@flo I think re. the “age of consent” is about between teenagers themselves, as in 17year old can with a 16yr old. In the US I don’t think the age of consent is for people under the age of majority, we in the US are quite comfortable with the blind leading the blind.

@zenvelo And you can get married in the US in many states as young as 14 if you have parental consent. Would you call that a pervy law? Myself, no I would not call that, or any of those in other nations ”perv law”, but many of my fellow Yankee (yeah I said it) think that any agreement, acquiescence, or reference to any male over 18 finding any female under 18 years attractive in an amorous or sexual way repugnant, even if you marry someone who is 14 years with her parents consent, you have to be somewhat sexually attracted to her as well, I would think.

@Crashsequence2012 Don’t try to show us all your righteousness by flapping your cakehole. First off, I have a pie hole not a cake hole, if you are going to make inference of it please have the courtesy to at least get it right. I was not showing you anything about righteousness. I never said anything about it being icky, sinful, debase, etc from my personal point of view. If you felt I did, by all means, point it out so all can see me debunk it and have a conclusion to who is off course in that statement or not.

@burntbonez Sorry. I’m not that righteous. Again, where does righteousness come into it?

I’m pretty sure there are several states in the US in which a girl can be married with her parents’ permission at age 14. Yes, and along that comes the unpleasant truth many do not care to admit; the male half of the union has to view the female half in a romantic and sexual way. When any male see any female under the age of majority in a sexual or amorous manner there has to be something wrong with him notwithstanding her parents and her is onboard with the relationship and subsequent wedding.

@Seek_Kolinahr “Age of majority” is a cultural construct. Throughout human history, a person has been considered grown upon reaching puberty – a female by the arrival of her menses or the development of her breasts, and a man by the growth of his beard (generally speaking). So true, the way in which many nations, the US which I know, deciphers adults from children is not aligned with nature but some arbitrary number, or cultural construct. ”Barely Legal” porn is a misnomer because in many places in the world the young women would be legal.

Just as you’d expect, the most southern US state has the lowest age of consent. Those Hawaiian pervs.

flo's avatar

Whether we call older people who go for 16 year olds, “pervs” or not whether we call the nations “perv nations”, as they say “A rose by any other name….”

“When any male see any female under the age of majority in a sexual or amorous manner there has to be something wrong with him notwithstanding her parents and her is onboard with the relationship and subsequent wedding” There is something wrong with that. The fact that the parents consent is meaningless. It just means they are unfit parents. There are parents who drown their children too by the way, it is not less of a crime than if was drowning was commited by a stranger.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@flo There is something wrong with that. There is something wrong with that because the parents are following the law? Would that not say the law was flawed or those who made the law or voted it in? Would those parents be more right if they allowed their children to smoke or drink underage if they did not provide the smokes and drink because they did not want them to go begging, stealing, etc to get them? Those parents who will allow their 14ryr old to 16 year old to marry (if the law allow) worse off than those who would allow their children to have sex in their rooms even with the parents help?

It just means they are unfit parents. It just means they are unfit parents. Elucidate, how are they unfit?
