What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in life?

Asked by KeepYourEyesWideOpen (345points) January 14th, 2013

My advice is don’t take anything you love or that’s good for you for granted, because then you may end up losing it and have nothing to show for it. If you have someone in your life who is precious to you, then tell them how you feel. Let them know you appreciate them in your life. You never know what may end up happening tomorrow.

This is my thought process.

How about you ? Lessons learned: What was the most important thing? least important thing you learned from life?

I’m so glad to have the opportunity to say thank you. I wish you the very best in the coming year.

You have my sincerest thanks.

Appreciation (similar to what you said) and adaptation – learning to deal internally with whatever comes your way, because changing the external situation isn’t always possible.

That anger is like a fire. It’s best to just let it burn down without adding mental fuel.

Don’t discuss religion or politics in a bar.
Always respect your wife’s opinion.
Listen to teenagers but don’t let them talk themselved over a cliff.
Old guys may be interested in what you say but just too tired to respond.

It’s a tie between “You can’t change people” and “Never part a loved one when angry; you may never see them again.”

Be true to yourself, know thyself, the most important of all, and yes, the proverbial “you can’t change others” only your reaction. Don’t take anything personally, it never is.

The one you mentioned is very true and I feel like I’m in that very position right now. A few minutes ago my boyfriend and I just had a small fight and he left. I feel like calling him and I guess apologizing or something and I really want him here with me. Guess I’ll have to wait till tomorrow.
But yes, never take anything for granted.

My mother always told me to wear clean underwear. There actually came a day that I was glad I had always followed that advice.

That I can survive some very difficult things. That I know what it’s like to be an alien, and you can stop being a member of the human race and then rejoin humanity, once you have proper healing.

Watch out where the Huskies go, don’t you eat that yellow snow.
